@EnlargedPenis I think the Backpacker Murders had a lot to do with this story as well. The killer was the infamous Ivan Milat...the letters that make up the name of Mick's camp also spell Ivan Milat, it's in the making of doco, its worth watching, has a lot of background/history in it.
I think this might be loosely taken from both killers, Bradley John Murdoch, who did the horrible crime that EnlargedPenis described below and the convicted serial of 7 backpackers, Ivan Milat.
The true story envolved Joanne Lees and Peter Falconio, with Falconio being shot dead while the couple were travelling in the Australian Outback. A man, Bradley John Murdoch told the couple that sparks were coming out their van, and Peter went to the back of the van to check with Murdoch. Joanne Lees heard a gunshot, and Murdoch came to the front of her window with a gun. He bound her hands together, however she hid in a bush. this is the only true story, there wasnt torture involved at all.
Also I think they said that the main story that it was loosley based on was never ever proved - but this could def happen in the massive open outback - fuck it might be happening as we speak lol
@badturkali I watched the special features & in an interview they said it was loosley based on lots stories that had maybe have happened in real life / and not on one single story
they said thousands of people go missing in the Australian outback ever year , and this was the film makers interpretation of what MIGHT have happened to them - great movie & the guy who plays the psycho / JOHN JARRATT was very very convincing :)
@SCOTTISHFILMFAN Agreed, I believe that's what makes a movie scary. Not the zombies, vampires ect... but a true scary movies is about something that can really happen to you and that's what makes them so terrifiying.
i listened to the directors commentary , its loosley based on one story , but even then the event did not happen exactly the way it happened in the film , the director used some dramatic license , and also took other various stories he had read about people that went missing in the outback, and gave us this movie - this is what he thought might have happened to them
Oi...despite all the desperate jokes of past comments...I have seen this movie and full...and this is a pretty good version of it...pity they all get killed....Wolf Creek 2...kill this murderous bastard...LOL.

I have to see this. I've watched the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre that is probably scarier than this.
