  • Thumbs up if playing this song in band brought you here.

  • Grimethorpe play with more pace and it does sound very good.

    A very good piece.

  • its good song

  • Thumbs up if GNPDMA brought you here... :D

  • The name of this composer and bandmaster spells Julius Fučík, not a fucking Fucik !

  • @sasawhare Because the name of the artist is much more important than the music.

  • Stop complaining what the official time is. The melody actually has 2/4 while the accompaniment lines have 6/8, creating an odd polyrhythm sound

  • can't even hear the piccolo or the flute part...how am i supposed to practice -_-

  • playing this for band!! PICCOLO SOLO!! oh yeah XD

  • GO PICCOLO'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have the piccolo part for concert band and from about 4:44 onwards its freaking impossible too stay in time :/

    Great song though! :)

  • I have a wonderful recording of Florentiner performed by the Berlin Phil. under von Karajan. Talk about excellent German symphonic brass -- the three trombones and tuba sound more like 30! And the trumpets literally sing that melody in the trio!

  • i have the music with me rite now it is 6/8

  • ya it was 2/4

  • Bickey is right!

  • The offical time is 2/4

  • i suddenly realised that Fučík was a genius.

  • i love that slow part especially with tuba

  • very well done. fun piece. enjoy the tune ^^

  • i had to play this crap for concert, so i can tell you this is all in 6/8. and it ALL sucks to play, no matter how awesome it sounds.

  • @DRUG54R3HUG5 oh. ours was aranged in cut time. its not that tricky.. idk. that was my oppinion

  • @DRUG54R3HUG5 It doesn't even make sense to do it in 6/8, unless everything was in like 4-tuplets or duples.

  • kaseyavenger -- if you don't like it I would bet your band isn't good enough to play it well. This march wouldn't be around after 100 years if it wasn't good.

  • @kaseyavenger9 its one of the best marches known to man.. not to mention THE most infamous.

  • the cymbal part for this KILLS! my arms are numb after every run-thru.

  • @sarangnorae416 I guess my marching band season paid off :D

  • Fucik had some rather brilliant music, it's kind of a shame it's all overshadowed by Entrance of the Gladiators (despite that it's a brilliant as hell song). I'm a huge Sousa and Rickettes fan and a fan of marches in general, I'd love to be able to hear some more by this man.

  • Does anyone else think of the Georgian film Monanieba/Repentance upon hearing this?

  • 4 People can't play this up to speed >:D

  • I love this song so much! I play the piccolo part for our HS band, and I gotta admit it is so much fun ^-^

  • I got the chance to play this at AB Honor Band, and it was a favourite in the concert :D

  • I play trumpet

  • @koolmoedee95 Me too mate We played this in my band.

In norwegian band is korps and it's said in the same way as corpse, lol

  • GO LOW BRASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrEuphoniumGuy Haha I play Euphonium. Do you?

  • @AJMZ13 shure do euph=my life

  • @MrEuphoniumGuy I love the low brass part for this song.

  • @AJMZ13 Me too its great, but im like the only one that can play it up to speed lol

  • My band played this (I played snare) and I can't get this out of my head. Great music.

  • @viney60 Our High School band is playing this also, and I'm playing the Flute part on Vibraphones :D

  • Playing this for performance in Jr High! (:

  • @tumblindrums10 in Jr High??? Good for you guy's, this is a very advanced peace for middle schoolers. good for you guys, really :D

  • His name is pronounced FEW-CHICK.

  • What a fabulous march, thanks for posting.

  • lol the person who tried to pick this guys last name at birth gave up and just went with the first thing that came to mind.... "Oh 'Fucik' it cant think of anything"

  • tempo di marcia

  • bellissima!!!

  • Why does Julius Fucik look like the bloke from the "Go Compare" adverts? :D

  • @jellosoup I'm actually playing flute on this march and if you start slower when practicing and gradually get faster each time you end the phrase you are practicing, you should be able to get it down.

  • Has anyone played flute for this march? I'm having a hard time with the end.

  • Yes, piccolo, flute, and E-flat clarinet (the parts are all the same). You have to practice it very slow and gradually play it a little faster. If you try to play it too fast from the beginning, you finger will learn it the wrong way and it will be hard to train your fingers to play it correctly.

  • Julius Fuck FTW!

  • @SwampThizzle you pathetic ignorant............

  • I play piccolo for this march and am the only piccolo/flute player in senior high band, and I LOVE this song! For some reason it reminds me of the music for the chicken dance! :l

  • schön wieder mal zu hören!!!

  • actually, his name is pronounced "Foo-chick". I don't know if it that makes it better...

  • Well, I would rather say, that his name is pronounced "Fu cheek".

  • @TheBosSauveli Meaning "Foo shik" or literally "Fu cheek"?

  • "Fu" must be sad shortly (like Kung Fu) and "čík" (like cheek - part of a face).

  • 私timpani やってます。楽しいよ!

  • WOAH wat a name to have julius fucik if he said that name to someone they would be like WAT DID YOU CALL ME hahaha

  • Brilliantly used in the film Brassed Off. Really catches a different flavour of the music against the film images.

  • One of the most beautiful marches in the world..! <3

  • His name was Julius Fučík not "Fucik" or "Fuck it". In Czech it sounds completely different.

  • @TheBosSauveli I don´t know

  • Few-sick. :)

  • I remember this piece. Our conductor would always be telling us: "FASTER! LOUDER!"

This is a very fun march, even for the bassoon!

  • レース速報です。

  • Finally a march that gives the third trumpets a damn good part. Or at least the arrangement our band is playing does.

  • @Bootes1893 lol i said tha same thing when i played this

  • En effet la meilleure partie est à partir de 2:45.

  • excellent song. we are playing this in our high school concert this spring

  • To steal a line I've read here before I salute your wicked mustache, Mr. Fucik. Great march

  • Amusant mais en quoi est-elle florentine ?

  • the best part is after 3:00

  • Julius Fucik was a Czech composer who died in 1916

  • Damn, this is quite a good version :o

We're playing this piece too (we = youth orchestra), it sounds nice but I've got to admit, it's far from perfect... I'll let our conductor listen to this version :)

*Sorry if there are mistakes in my comment, I'm no native English speaker*

  • Don't worry, your english is better than most native speaker's.

Our band played this last year, and except for our great first trumpet (not me, I play euphonium) everyone butchered it.

  • My college wind ensemble did this and March of the Gladiators for a set. People didn't know what they were called, but as soon as they heard them, you could literally see the "AH HA!" moments...

  • Comment removed

  • Yes...Entry of the Gladiators. Don't know why I said "march..." We had 52 and we had all wind instruments. Bflat, Eflat, clarinets...all the sax's...low brass, high brass...you name it, it was there...

  • In a short, brilliant career, during which he served as bandmaster to the 86th Hungarian Infantry Regiment at Budapest, he developed his own wide-ranging style of writing marches, a popular dual profession among bandmasters amidst the on-going nationalism then flourishing in Europe. Thus it is not surprising to find a Hungarian writing an Italian grand march and out-doing many Italians in the process.

  • but why is it called florentiner? is it a them of a florentin traditional melody? or why?

  • Is this italian march?

    no?

  • This poor dude's name lends itself to so much misfortune in English.

  • lol

  • Stop laughing at me, dammit.

    -Julius Fu*ik

  • hahah sorry guys = fu-chik

im his great great great great grandson hahaha and in australia! guess how that goes down - your names fucking what?

  • are you sure your his great great great great grandson or are you just making that up?

  • @emperorIng360

Hey, he earned that name. We may not remember him for this, but his reputation for powerful, incendiary marches built up so much momentum that the term "fuck" was created to invoke the spirit of his creations.

  • @Consequence Really?

  • @TheCursedChosen1

    Believe it, baby!

  • @emperorIng360 not only in English ; ) haha in Polish the guy's name is just half a sylable away from being 'dick' (Fucik -> fiucik) xD He wouldn't last a day in school here, sadly..

  • @emperorIng360 his surname can be translated like Blower :D

  • @emperorIng360 In fact, it's spelled badly. It's Fučík, not Fucik. Some people are too lazy to look up the correct spelling or pay no respect to languages which use diacritic marks.

  • @smelloftheice Just to be sure, this is not an attack on TheWickedNorth. I'm speaking about the trends generally.

  • @smelloftheice Who gives a Fucik. That particular font does not show up on a Dell keyboard, so give it a rest.

  • @bgrobin66 Google... Copy & paste.

  • @smelloftheice I personaly am not going to go to that trouble, and by the way why don't you do it our way, Or at least just accept things as they are and just enjoy the great music. Hey, have a great day.

  • @smelloftheice Or this person is using a laptop, which I know from experience that you cannot make those signs on.

  • @thePANDASgirl13 You can always use the good ol' copy&paste trick.

  • i love this song! we're playing it in our upcoming concert <3

  • this is such song... I get to play the euphonium part, which is amazing (of course...) =]

  • The first part sounds like they're trying to play in 6/8 time.

  • @rotunda57 if my memory serves, that's how it was scored. (Granted, I played it years ago in high school, so I may be mistaken.)

I have to say, though, the slow section (from 2:32 onward) is definitely my favorite.

  • @rotunda57 I don't think so it still sounds pretty much like 4/4.

  • @rotunda57 its cut time.

  • I think you mean you want to fucik the song.

  • Yeah :D

  • one of the best versions i´ve ever heared great dynamic and speed

    i love fucik

  • jeah close but not the same.. ;-)
