Maybe so but take a look at the viewing figures and you'll see the show has had PLENTY of people watching it. The last episode in particular. It felt like all of Britain was watching it. lol

And before you ask... yes I watched the last episode when it aired on BBC 2 back in 1999... viewing figures peaked at over a whopping 8 million.

Your not the only one to underestimate it... I watched a show on Channle 5 a year back which showed a poll of the top 50 greatest comedies of all-time... I knew Faulty Towers would be no. 1 but I was VERY surprised to find Red Dwarf nowhere in that list. I think the term to describe Red Dwarf would be a "cult-classic", as such it is only attractive to a certain fanbase and critics-alike.

The only problem is... the show's been dead in the water for a decade now... at least 40% of those people who stayed up Friday nights (like I did) to watch the show in the 90's will have forgotten all about it. This is the problem with independent shows like this. Doug Grant and co. could only go on for soo long. It was only a matter of time before a hiatus would take place. Unfortunately no-one foresaw it taking such a long time out. As such Craig Charles and co. haven't hit the heights again.

EXACTLY! Some critics would argue that the driving force for the remaining crew of Red Dwarf (i.e. going back to earth) is a tad silly... but to others, like myslef, its just an excuse for a some great laughs in one cult-classic.

when does kryten come into the show? he was 1 of my fave characters.

He first appears in an episode called Kryten, but I think he only comes in as a regular (and with a different actor) in a later series, not sure which.

start of series 3 was when robert llewelyn started playing him. there's a series 2 episode with someone else playing him

in the first episode of series 2 he was played by david ross.

however, he was never supposed to stay as a regular character so at the end of the episode he flew away in lister's space bike (the last time it appears i think.

at the beginning of series 3, they decided to make him a main character so he stayed and had rimmer find him on an asteroid crashed, and in pieces. he wasnt assembled right, so he looked different. (they couldnt get david ross back, so he was replaced by robert llewelyn)
