Oh so the fact that we created the test, caught a chimp, built a cage, put him in it, created video cameras to record it, then Al Gore invented the internet which we use to stream this video and we all sit around the world, click play, watch and then type comments in a language we all understand counts for nothing?
I kind of resent the idea that if I didn't come up with the exact same solution as the chimp to a problem that has hundreds of solutions, I must be losing somehow.
I thought about a tweezer, but I assumed no externals were allowed. This by the way is proof that monkeys can use tools for the religious folks that use any opportunity to say that evolution is false.
My first thought was breaking the tube. But if that didn't work I thought about water. N if thre wasnt water I thought about pissing in it. If that didn't work I thought about spitting in it till it over flowed. Lol. Nope im smarter
If you think about it. In aspects like that the chimp probably thinks more out of the box than most humans, largely because a lot of us have been trained not to do that and also we often over think things unlike a chimp!
@deshool Evolution isn't set toward a goal. There is no supreme being it is trying to create. Also, chimps aren't smarter than humans. A chimp is as evolved as we are. I really wish people would pick up a book on evolution before trying to debunk it with laughably moronic questioning.

How is this hard at all? Water displacement is the first thing I would have thought of, considering there were no tools inside the cage and also assuming that the keepers had a water tube always available. I suppose NatGeo doesn't think too highly of the average person. Still impressive of the chimp, though.
@drawingmaniac21 hop the fuck off your high horse and dont act like water displacement was the first thing you would have thought of. You only say that because you saw the chimp do it and thought to yourself, oh yes of course thats obvious, but had that chimp not figured it out and you were in that cage the first thing you would have done was try and stick your finger down there and mabey look for a stick.
@drawingmaniac21 haha perhaps I used overly strong language but I am not mad I assure. I never said I couldnt have figured it out, but then again I cannot be sure if I would have or would not have because I saw the answer to the problem before I thought about what I would have done.
Most people vastly overestimate human intelligence. In any society, each human gets fed the intelligence of thousands of humans before him/her. A human on it's own left to learn by itself is only slightly more intelligent than a chimp. The big difference being language, which is what humans use to form cultures that preserve knowledge over time. Chimps are a lot smarter than young human children without culture, and some chimps are smarter than some adult humans without culture.
I love the way people don't think this is fair. Boo hoo we didn't know about the water, boo hoo we didn't know peanuts float. Bottom line is anyone with half a brain would be able to make the reasonable assumption that peanuts would float, and who here hasn't got a tap in the house? Knowledge may not imply intelligence but using existing knowledge to solve a problem that's not been encountered before does. @FarquharDingleberry The chimp isn't inside a house with a tap, he's in a cage. If I was in a cage like that with nothing but water it wouldn't take me long to figure out what to do.
who cares if you didn't know about the water? the main point of this video is that the chimp is a fuckin genius for its kind. maybe some of you humans are stupid....
Because if we want a fucking penut we will kick the fucking tube till its cracked or fly two planes into it or go to the local market and buy some lol
well actually before the shell is cracked it will have air inside as, if you see an uncracked peanut shell there is lot of excess space, so yes it would float, but its not as if humans wouldnt come up with that, chimps may be clever but not as much as 'some' humans but i think most humans are stupid mostly due to our selfish nature.

Who wants a soggy peanut so badly that they would WASTE their drinking water to get it? Seriously that's not a smart move, that's the opposite of a smart move, using it's drinking water to retrieve a treat that wouldn't even fill it up or give it enough energy to pick its nose.
@CNightmare2 i don't think guns and weapons is necessary to get a peanut out of a tube, but if you want to use weapons and guns, technology and intelligence was used to create these guns and even more are humans getting smarter improving technology, don't call me a stupid human because you believe in evolution and good 'memory' is not what is needed for what this chimp had thought of.
@Abhorham Desmond Morris in "The Human Animal" (BBC, recommended) explores living spaces of humans and tries to find a resemblance in the animal kingdom. He thinks the best comparison for what a megacity is for humans... is what a zoo is to animals :)

Yeah we didn't know about the water. Knowledge doesn't automatically imply more intelligence..
pythor2 8 months ago
Two reasons as to why this puzzle isn't fair.
1. This chimp (and perhaps all chimps) know that peanuts float. I doubt many humans are aware of this, or greatly rely on peanuts as a food source.
2. There is no source of water visible in the picture frame. The chimp sees or knows about the water, and possibly even drinks from it.
Even a baby armed with the same knowledge could solve this.

@piccard1976 or maybe you'd just notice the pale of water they likely placed in the cage with him.

Who wants a soggy peanut so badly that they would WASTE their drinking water to get it? Seriously that's not a smart move, that's the opposite of a smart move, using it's drinking water to retrieve a treat that wouldn't even fill it up or give it enough energy to pick its nose.

@Gaeuvyen
We are also wasting our frinking water for useless things.

jaesee95 1 year ago
I think if a human wanted the peanut as much as that chimp does, the human would probably think of that eventually.

P3T3RJAY 1 year ago 129
@P3T3RJAY Stupid human, its because you use guns and weapons chimps arent that evolved but they have a better memory then you!
CNightmare2 1 year ago
@CNightmare2 i don't think guns and weapons is necessary to get a peanut out of a tube, but if you want to use weapons and guns, technology and intelligence was used to create these guns and even more are humans getting smarter improving technology, don't call me a stupid human because you believe in evolution and good 'memory' is not what is needed for what this chimp had thought of.
P3T3RJAY 1 year ago
@P3T3RJAY Huh, i was pointing to that humans are weak and without guns or weapons they probably would be beaten up by a cat, so =)
CNightmare2 1 year ago
@CNightmare2 oh right, actually, there are heaps of fighting styles and shit like that that would make us beat up that chimp into a cage
P3T3RJAY 1 year ago
@CNightmare2 thats a pretty brash statement. also a false one.

@Abhorham Desmond Morris in "The Human Animal" (BBC, recommended) explores living spaces of humans and tries to find a resemblance in the animal kingdom. He thinks the best comparison for what a megacity is for humans... is what a zoo is to animals :)
