8 minute canoe

I am reparing a cedar strip canoe. The man who built it painted the outside purple and left the inside natural color. I am wanting to paint it black. I have looked around online and found only very expensive marine paint. I was wondering if you could tell me if i could use oil based paint and if it would stay on the canoe for a long time if treated well. The last striper i repared i painted it using acrilic and wasn't happy on how easy it comes off. Thanks.

Wow! When the epoxy went on the hair on my arms stood straight up. That boat is beautiful. Who gets it when it's finished? Priceless.
