  • Shows just how good they are by your desire to point out one obvious mistake on youtube

  • Just sounds like jazz... lol!

  • I guess Rush is so great that no one even mentions geddy's voive is shot. We all have to much respect but hey, just thought I'd mention it. I wish I could mess up that good!

  • oh they made plenty of mistakes

  • That's called the Jazz version ;)

  • They recovered really well actually.....

  • I'm not going to justify a mistake made by Rush. A three man band of the most talented musicians in rock history that have been playing for close to four decades and still play to this day.

No, I'm not going to justify a 1 second mistake.

  • Alex just spilt his beer and got distracted.

  • That's not a trainwreck! That's jazz!

  • @Kurushal haha!! my dad is a musician and he's always told me, "life is like jazz, its not whether you screw up but how you recover"

  • They just came in at the wrong time. Happens to everyone, especially after a long rest like that. The "trainwreck" lasted less than 2 seconds, I'm suprised you even noticed.

  • Don't know the song, so I didn't spot the glaring mistake.

  • @comedylaff Trust me if you know the song it's glaring.

  • Trainwreck? Sounded like a pebble on the track to me, dramaqueen.

  • if it was perfect every time, it would sound too mechanical.

  • rush mistake = the other way they wrote the song

  • nice one, you have to wonder how rush makes such a rookie mistake.

  • That actually sounded pretty cool!!! Rush "mistake" = Cool live twist

  • It's not like these guys became gods, more like demigods; they still mess up during rehearsal and forget lines and stuff. But they can still make triple-platinum, incredible albums that show off their wonderful musicianship after being a band for FORTY-THREE YEARS (1968-2011), so they're allowed to mess up as often as they want :)

  • @GodofReapers 1974<<< when they first produced a album.

  • Comment removed

  • I got to play golf with Alex this past summer in Ontario. One of the funniest guys I've ever met.

  • Alex can do anything he wants, he is GOD!!

  • Playing in a band since 1975, when you play a song to an audience and play it perfect no one responds BUT when you fuck it up they CLAP, WTF

That's what it's like here in Halifax, strange

  • Has anyone considered that maybe this was done on purpose? Bands that play songs a thousand times sometimes like to have a little fun. That could be the case here. Unless I heard Geddy or one of the other guys admit to it being a mistake I would reserve judgement.

  • They messed up and the crowd STILL cheers.

    That's awesome.

  • Train wreck. Really? Seems like a bump in the road at worst.

  • I wouldn't exactly call it a trainwreck.

I'm going to assume bad monitors.

  • wait, where was the mistake?

  • @shlbirdman14 exactly

  • Must of been a bad night for Alex

  • I wish my band could make a mistake that sounded this good.

  • WOW it shows that RUSH are actual humans after all and not intelligent musical aliens LOL. Could have been a monitor problem that cut out......... or jet lag,?

  • neil peart, jeff paccaro, insley dunbar, where have they all gone to?

  • I hardly think it's fair or even accurate to assail Alex's guitar playing ability. This is a superlative player who must play "double duty" by not only playing some truly memorable leads but often by simultaneously playing rhythm to cement the playing of Geddy and Neil. This man consistently ranks high in most guitar publications' "best of" polls and lists and is held in very high esteem by his peers such as Eddie Van Halen, Billy Corrigan, Tom Morello, and yes, Kirk Hammett.

  • Comment removed

  • sorry folks, I'm not hearing a mistake here, maybe you're just stupid

  • you can hardly call a missed note a trainwreck... nothing rush does is wrong

  • Actually this mistake shows use how great musical understanding there is between them. Alex's timing gets wrong and Neil starts to correct him, while Alex has already corrected he's mistake.

  • @Uninfinityness i do this so many times in bands haha. Usually with MUCH simpler songs bearing in mind

  • Is Alex mistake, Neil has never miss a drum

  • This dude is known as Canadian white trash..

  • wouldn't call that a train wreck...maybe by rush standards

  • why is metallica being brought up?

two completley different kinds of music

  • @deadly2426 yes, one is technical, amazing, and talented, the others are sellouts that haven't made a good album since their bassist died

  • @Defenseman619 idk and justice for all to me was one of their best albums and that was with jason if u didnt know

there both talented to me its just opinion and what kind of music you like

  • their mistakes are still better than justin beiber at his very best

  • that wasn't really that bad, probably just the echo anyway

  • You're kidding, right???

    You call THAT a "trainwreck"???

    Paleeezzee!!!

If that's the worst mistake that RUSH can make........

They're THE best band in the entire Milky Way Galaxy!!!

What's pretty funny is YOU, Maxey5150, for even posting this!!!

    DOH!!!!!!

  • huh........ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL! Alex's fault! As he says himself: often times he has no idea what he's doing on stage, while Geddy and Neil are always nailing it. He says he always messes up things like Spirit of Radio and YYZ quick intro bits. xD XD

  • Trainwreck?

    Hardly.

    Minor screw-up, yeah, it happens.

  • i feel like a drummer like neil would hear that right away and skip a beat and fix it. i think if this audio is not tampered with and was actually recorded live, then maybe there was some delay with the in ear monitors or something that they have. who knows...

but still, not a "train wreck" more like an "oh shit. my bad."

  • You call that a train wreck??? That's a small mistake. A train wreck is when the whole song is messed up, like when Dream Theater played in Minneapolis (long ago) and messed up Live Another Day so bad they had to stop and start the whole song over. That's not a slam on DT, it just happens sometimes. This? Hardly a hiccup!

  • Wait so that means....GEDDY LEE IS HUMAN!!!!!!! O_O

  • @IceyFlame500 This is news to me.

  • @IceyFlame500 It's Neil's fault (rare!) He came in one beat too early.

  • @drummernezzy no it's Alex's fault, if you listen closely Neil and Geddy are together, Alex comes late, tries to make up for it my skipping some notes, and everything goes off track.

  • @drummernezzy well actually ou may be right, but in that case BOTH Geddy and Neil came in one beat too early. Must've been looking at each other.

  • @MagellanOfBass yeah, that's probably what happened cause I KNOW there's one beat missing. Oh well, 2/3 of them were tight!

  • OMG, Rush is human. Who would have thought! At least their instruments are in tune, unlike Metallica.

  • I think that's the first time I've ever heard them make a mistake. I guess they're entitled to one mistake in 37+ years of playing.

  • @devtrev I've been watching Rush since the 2112 era, and playing their music on guitar the whole time. In the 25 shows or so I've been to, there have been around 20 "noticeable" mistakes, but the point is, most of the people in the audience don't even realize they made a mistake. We musicians can pick them out easier. Having said that, the mistakes are rare and when they occur you don't even care because the other 99.99999% of the show was just around spot on :)

  • Neil fucked it up.. came in too early and tripped up big-Al.

  • There is no RUSH train wreck EVER cause they can play anything they f-ing want and even if they make a mistake which all bands do RUSH somehow still sounds really good. That's right I just said RUSH could completely go off into musical mistaqke for 20 minutes and it would still be awesome.

  • Average guitar player?!? Dude, you don't know anything about playing guitar if you think that about Alex Lifeson.

  • Alex Lifeson didnt mess up. He changed it. Then he didnt like it so he changed it back later that day.

  • @CockasaurusErectus Lifeson Formed Is the founder of Rush,And you have NO FUCKIN' CLUE about music..Go back to your Michael Jackson albums dumb ass! Ask any REAL guitar player to pick up a guitar and play ANY of his songs..Good luck with THAT!

  • @runninonempiy Did you just diss Michael Jackson? Fuck you. MJ had just as much talent as Alex, if not more.

  • @cursedswordsman AAWWWW!!!!!And BULL SHIT!! dumb ass

  • Train wreck? Blasphemy! Better to tear out your tongue.

  • In 1976, I was 16. I thought Alex was just lucky. Because he didn't have chops like John McLaughlin, I thought he was "less-than".

Now, I know it was just ignorance and the arrogance of youth. Music stores all over are filled with kids who could play rings around someone like "The Edge", but not one of them could replace him. It's not about the chops. It's about what you do with the ones you have. Alex is great. RUSH wouldn't be RUSH without Alex.

  • this is not a train wreck, more like a "missed stop." your assessment of the situation and premature use of hyperbole is the actual train wreck in this equation.

  • This is not a trainwreck. It's an entertaining, but still small mistake.

  • that wasn't a train wreck - you are for being an idiot

  • Trainwreck??? Gimme a break. Despite the mistake, they did a hell of a job to recover - the train never left its rails.

If a listener was in the audience who didn't know the song very well, they more than likely wouldn't have even noticed this little botch up.

  • More like a collective brain fart.

  • That's the beauty of live music. Never played the same twice. That's how I look at it.

  • Neil's monitor mix contain's only his drums, so it's not his fault.

  • @InfinityEnterprises : Well, that's not true. Neil, Alex, and Geddy all have slightly different custom mixes of the same instruments in their ear monitors. It is done via a computer controlled mix board. Presets for every song in the set list. And at this part, they are all relying on visual cues for the most part. They could probably play it without even hearing it. They all can usually hear each other, but I am guessing that Alex's ear cut out, and he skipped ahead slightly.

  • @2333jim I happen to know that Neil's monitors only contain his drums and any time-based effects (samples, loops, etc). What I was saying is that because he couldn't hear the others, he couldn't be expected to correct it. Ergo, it's not his fault.

  • @2333jim Wait! I take that back! by this part of the song they are already in tempo. Neil clicks the off beats on his hi hat with his foot. Instead of 8 beats of rest he only counted 7. Therefore, Neil's fault!

  • @InfinityEnterprises this is true neil came in a beat early. the train wreck happened because he added a beat to correct himself, but alex and geddy were already following what he had originally done

  • @jfrockon Thats the most ridicules thing I have ever heard! And your 16 democrat sheep are even worse..Whats the matter with you?Thats like saying my tile floor is better than ANY set of coffee cups.

  • @jfrockon What has Metallica even got to do with Rush? Also, how dare you mention metallica in the presence of Rush?

  • @Numlocq I beleive metallica tried playing rush songs.

  • @werewolf9205 Well they should be shot for it

  • @jfrockon never heard of metalica, ive heard of Metallica, and thats a pretty damn good band, just people are jealous of their success, and whine like bitches all the time. lol

  • @jfrockon Well fucking said, I can't stand people who admire Metallica, James sounds like he's shitting out barbwire when he sings.

  • @c0rnp0p5 That's called a singing style. James is a great songwriter and guitarist, and Cliff Burton was an amazing bassist (influenced by Geddy Lee, incidentally). That's why people admire Metallica.

  • @jfrockon Better than Master of Puppets, Creeping Death, Orion, Call of Ktulu, Ride the Lightning, Fade to Black? Really? Low blow, dude. This is barely even a mess up.

  • @jfrockon

Metallica plays music? Could have fooled me

  • @jfrockon haha

  • I've heard worse before........

  • Alex slightly slow, but still in tempo. As if he waited for the second beat to start.

  • Ok, this is 'splitting hairs' to me. It was barely off.

  • It makes me feel good to know that Rush screwed up at least once live, it makes me feel better about screwing up my only fucking solo on my band's (so far) only studio album.

Anyways, the screw up still sounds pretty good. I'm sure if I were in the crowd I wouldn't have noticed.

  • So what.

I remember when some hated Rush because they claimed that they sounded "just like the record" when playing live.

Here is proof that they are human and they still sound good, but now some complain that they suck because they can't play live.

You can't please everyone all of the time. :P

  • It's always Alex.

  • @jtropeano : That is truer than you know. I think they screw up this song more than any other, but they still play it better than any one else. I have heard Alex screw up the "...and the meek..." several times, but that just adds to the fun. Alex plays by feel, and Geddy and Neil are very technical. Usually, they make up for one mistake by kicking ass on the rest of the song.

  • Alex piss drunk again, no doubt.

  • Life long RUSH FAN...if this is a "train wreck" as maxey5150 calls it?...I'll take train wreck LIVE over all the bullshit "in studio re-do and dubbed over CAAA-rap" that is put out now. No one can out do The Canadian Trio LIVE...and I mean NO ONE!!! They are as consistent as morning and night!

  • Slight snag no big deal. Pulled it together like a real pro band does.

  • this is a quite small trainwreck

  • It probably wouldn't sound bad to someone that's never heard the song before. I bet a bunch of people in the audience didn't even notice.

  • I'v heard worse and,IT HAPPENS!

    Chill out

  • I bet they can count on one hand the number of times they've messed that part up. I know I've heard them play it countless number of times and it's perfect every time. A simple mental error.

  • OUCH!!

  • Comment removed

  • neil and geddy fucked up, alex was doing it right but they messed up the timing

  • @Ignore14 You are correct sir. Geddy and Neil both come in one count early. Usually Neil keeps very quiet time on his hi-hat w/his left foot as to prevent such "trainwrecks." In this performance however, I don't hear it. What gets me is that 2 out of the 3 Rush members were wrong. Geddy must have been watching Neil and came in when he saw Neil about to play the downbeat. I put 'em on a pedestal and now they're broken on the floor.

  • @drewper73 What I actually see is Neil just wanting to put an extra crash in to that part just to add something a little different, which ended up confusing Alex and Geddy with the timing. I can hear Neil use his hi-hat pedal, so I know he was keeping count.

  • @thessbmaster Maybe, but I don't think so. That's just me. I don't think Neil would add an extra crash there. There's never been one there before. Also, there's the possibility of something like this happening. Like I said in another comment, I think it just boils down to a mental error. It happens. Daydreaming, playing on auto-pilot, whatever. But hey, that's just this one dude's opinion. Rush rocks!!!

  • @drewper73 amen, brother

  • I wouldn't say trainwreck...more like rhythmic creativity

  • like others have said, wow.. if this is a trainwreck for rush, then rush is one of the most skillful bands there is.

  • 7 seconds of mess up, 23 minutes of awesome :D

  • @BaDmRkItTyS i agree dude buts its more like 7 seconds of mess up 40 years of rule!

  • You know your band is the shit when a guitarist comes in at the wrong time, probably because he couldn't hear is monitor, it is called a "train wreck." And haters, stand the fuck down. I'm sure the guys were laughing about this one after the show, and it proves that even among these bad asses, no one is perfect... not even these icons.

  • @keviinmach The reason people notice when Rush fucks up is because they've come to expect perfection out of these guys. It IS a compliment that people notice the flaws, because there's so few of them to point out.

  • @keviinmach Alex was the only who came in at the right time. Go back and listen and count. Geddy and Neil come in one beat early. The only reason I can think of as to why Alex was the only one who got it right is that Geddy was probably watching Neil and came in when he saw that Neil was about to play. Usually Neil gives a subtle hi-hat cue that assures the other 2 of where the beat is, but I couldn't hear it in this performance.

  • If 7 seconds of something not sounding like it should is considered a trainwreck thats pretty rediculous.

  • Alex's fault as usual.. :D

  • Comment removed

  • I think you're wrong......Neil and Geddy came back in too early after the long pause. After the hit on 1, there should be a pause of 7 beats....2-3-4-5-6-7-8 and then all back in on 1. Neil and Geddy came back in on 8.

Alex came in correctly, but then cut his part short to make up for Neil and Geddy coming in ahead of him. That's why it sounds like Alex screwed up.

  • @vdrum1693 You are absolutely correct. I couldn't have explained it better myself, so I didn't.

  • Trainwreck? Don't think so. Even if it weren't the right notes, it sounded pretty damn good.

  • Neil Peart totally did this on purpose. "The 7/8 feel to this part of the drum solo was more implied than actually played" There you have it.

  • @Alistairvlog LOL, awesome!!!!! Thats his quote from "anatomy of a drum solo" your the man. I swear I need a dictionary when listening to him.

  • dude, i bet nobody in the crowd even noticed the so-called trainwreck. so one of them glitched a little, big deal. i've seen bands collapse mid-song.

  • If that's a train wreck, most other bands should just give up.

  • A few missed notes here and there, usually on the old songs, because when they do these old songs, they are usually in a good mood and goofing off so maybe Alex was laughing as something or who knows... I've seen this happen before live when they do old songs. Sometimes though they play it perfectly. Who cares! It's Rush!

  • this is susposed to be a joke. rush doesnt trainwreck. they are machines sent down from an alien race.

  • If you've ever played in a band, or even solo live, you'll mess up at some point. It happens. I guess they're human after all.

  • @vicariousfellow For Rush, that's a trainwreck...

  • Holy, how good is this band??? Even when they mess up it sounds crazy good!

  • it was lifeson who was late btw

  • not a train wreak, just Rush infusing every single time signature into the same bar

  • So... its one moment of miscommunication out of how many other flawless performances? They're people, not robots.

  • train wreck???...you're a fucking moron..this was no train wreck

  • You guys, THIS IS NOT A TRAINWRECK! So he didn't hit the cymbal when he should have, but he still kept the beat. They don't always play their songs EXACTLY as you hear them on a CD. A trainwreck is when the loss of a beat or rhythm causes the whole song to go splat. This was nothing.

  • @skifan07 Rush goes to great lengths onstage to recreate what's on their CDs.

  • @yourtunesfuckinsuck Regardless, this was NOT a trainwreck.

  • @skifan07 For being done by guy's like Rush it is

  • @skifan07 agreed. @kidglowes whether something is a trainwreck or not isn't really relative. I bet most of the fans in attendance didn't even notice the fuckup.

  • @skifan07 It's not that he didn't hit the cymbal, they started at different times...

  • it's funny how this is the worst thing rush has ever done live

  • CAN U BLAME THEM ITS SO HARD TO PLAY!! FUNNY THOUGH

  • I'm trying to figure out who is at fault, If they're playing this exactly per the studio version, then I think it's Neil who came in early and didn't fully count out the rest.

Every band has one of these, it's no big deal.

  • rush is my favorite band, and rush fans can proudly say that a mistake from rush only proves that they are one of the talented groups that actually plays music live on their instruments and not through itunes like ashley simpson.

  • This is more of a testament of how great Rush is. If this is the biggest mistake people can find out of all the performances they've done over 30+ years, they must be doing something right.

  • It happens to the best of them. Each Rush member has talked about this very thing in interviews. They just know how to fix it mid song like professionals. No biggie.

  • Ur dumb for posting this. Neil pearts poo can do better at life than u

  • I think he's saying that the timing had sounded as if it bunched up like cars colliding?? maybe that's a musical term. I'm not a musician. But i hear it

  • not really

  • It isn't that much of a train wreck

  • explane how its a train wreck? So Alex mis-counted the second part on the into part to 2112, big fucking deal.

  • who is that guy in the picture, Silvio Berlusconi?

  • @yepheth that would be your father (neil peart)

  • @yepheth It's Kevin Spacey and Tom Hanks love child.

  • Mistakes happen. By the way, that's my photograph of Neil you're using.

  • Why a pic of NP when it is AL who makes the slight misstake?

  • Rush gets BORED from being perfect all the time, so they TRY to make mistakes to keep things interesting.

  • is it just me or in the corner of your eye does the relection of the cymbal look like a strange hair style for Neil

  • It's usually Alex pissing about to wind the other two up. If not it means they are actual human beings who make mistakes...noooooooooooo!!!

  • Rush vary ALOT from their different performances, maybe it wasnt even a mistake, but even if it was it okay because Mr.Perth is god

  • @Taisythecow Mr. Perth???

  • @vxJDvx I do apologize, *Mr.Peart

  • it worked out, with neil, it always works out, understand? thumbs this up

  • where the hells the trainwreck?

  • This is a rare frak up by Neil, from the sound of it. They recovered immediately, so it's not much of a train wreck.

  • I don't know why this vid has so many dislikes. I don't get it.

  • I honestly don't hear the screw up.

In almost every band, drummers like to dick around and have fun with it.

After the 1000th time playing that song I would want to mix it up a little too.
