@TheJakuss yes but in the case of nadine they change a lot of the character, they make lucy the one that take care of leo. and they used rita for nadie, she is the one in 2:03,
@genesis098123 Yes that was Stephen on the right side of Corin Nemic. King does allot of Walk ons. I believe Mike Lookinland (Bobby Brady) Was in this too.
Say what you want about the mini series. I get it. But but but somehow captures the day and age of mid 90's T.V. Molly F'in Ringwald c'mon. Don't dream it's over...so fitting. Got a feelin Mr. King isn't done with, in my opinion, his best work. Hey now hey now CGI is with us hey now hey now please tell the story we all want to SEE!
boring like watching a cheesy day time soap...why cant they adapt a book to film and make it as good...dont like any of the actors apart from lowe..found the acting lame and story was to drawn out could have covered it in 1hr 20,easly like 5hrs of needles boring filler..pray to god they dont touch the dark tower pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Why is it all of Kings novels made for T.V. suck hard? I just finished reading the book, which was excellent as most of Kings are,but it seems whoever directed or rewrote the story was retarded like Tom Cullen. MOON that spells retarded.
@mercmarc Stephen King wrote the screenplay & Mick Garris (Sleepwalkers,Riding the Bullet) directed. I don't see what your problem is. Whenever a novel is made into a film changes have to be made. When The Stand was first shown it was a 4 part mini-series. Even at that length changes had to be made. It's impossible to adapt a novel 100%. Changes have to be made. Given the time it was made The Stand remains one of the best Stephen King mini-series.
It's a shame that people would read this book over and over again (I read the 1986 version then the super long 1991 version), while they never read the book King admitted he got the idea from. "The Stand", "I Am Legend", "Omega Man", and all stories like it (Mad Max, Book of Eli) are direct , and often pale imitations of a 1949 book called "Earth Abides". I have just read it for the first time, and it is superior to "The Stand". Instead of reading the same book again, try "Earth Abides".
@GarthanSaal444 The Omega Man is a horrible remake of The Last man On Earth which is the best version of I Am Legend by Richard Matheson made so far. The Will Smith train wreck missed the point of the novel and is just a mindless action film.
I've been searching for a movie or miniseries that features a man who works in a nuclear plant or some laboratory in the US. During the first 15-30 min. it is peaceful and calm but then out of the blue a horrible accident takes place in the plant/lab they can't control. The workers wore thick, metallic suits and helmets but still got infected. The film showed detailed agony bordering on horror. I saw it on European tv in the mid-1990s. It resembled a King setting but it wasn't "The Stand".
I loved the book. Movie was iffy, but the book was spectaculer! Long as hell, but I've read it so much it's falling apart lol. Private message me if you read Under The Dome, I loved it but nobody else has seemed to of read it.
Amazing movie, shitty music. This is a song you use on a video of people making love, or dancing, dramatic kinda thing. Not a Stephen King novel video.
Well, you can all argue as much as you like. It's an amazing book, a pretty good movie and an excellent song. I prefer the book. The imagination is always better. But Stephen wrote a goodun this time and i think we can all agree on that.
I watched part 1 today and it has some of the worst acting I have ever seen on screen. It was so bad I don't even feel like watching the next parts anymore.
Amazing video, I saw the mini series last week...I have never seen before but I hear about it in the year of 1994, when this song come and start played in the second chapter it was wonderful !! very deeply and sentimental

"The Stand" is my alltime favourite book. Read it 5 times in German and 2 times in English. Love the movie, saw the whole thing in one night - 6 hours straight!
I wouldn't say it's scary, just suspeneful. I don't it was suppose to be scary, i think he was just tellling us what would happen if the world were to die slowly
Go watch it again- when the water is washing a teddybear in what is I guess supposed to be MAINE where frannie is from- This song IS in it so Drop the Swearing - like this is a MAtter of Life and Death- Geeez Get a Life!
@109826 It sure did. In the scene where Molly Ringwald's character and some other guy (been a while since I've seen it last) plays old LP records and the room is set in candle light.
Stephen King's best book, hands down. The message was significant on a number of levels, but all in all, it told me one thing: good and evil will always fight, and neither will EVER truly win.
@MsSouthernman: I also enjoyed Needful Things, and in fact, found Leland Gaunt to be a better villain than Randall Flagg (in terms of his supernatural power). It was a little too unbelievable how Flagg seemed to not understand himself at just the right moments for the good guys. But still, The Stand was amazing overall, and in my opinion, had a much stronger message than Needful Things.
@sockembopers12 My thought exactly, especially MOON. Not to mention that he did not foresee that both girls would jump, one as a sacrifice to save the good, the other knowing what she would give birth to. Absolutely, Gaunt was a much better villain and had a "quieter" approach.
@MsSouthernman: Still, you have to admit that Gaunt's defeat was a little corny; flying away in his Tucker Talisman and all. I liked Flagg's ending much more (in the uncut edition); how he, by his evil nature alone, started the cycle of control all over again. the last paragraph regarding life as a whole was also great (A wheel that no man can stand on forever, and it ALWAYS spins round to the same place again). Awesome ending by an author who, unfortunately, is not very good at endings.
King is the King of Sleepiness! LOL. Seriously, I could not fall asleep, so I read this, and I was out like a light. All he does is ramble on about some kind of apocalypse and their flat surviving characters. And where are the zombies?

This piece of music knocks me flat every time. However, while there were some good moments in "The Stand" miniseries (the Lincoln Tunnel scene was the best, I thought), I'd like to see it remade. I recently reread the novel, and I think it stands the test of time.
Urgh this fil was just terrible.... apart from Gary Sinise as Stu Redman and Rob Lowe as Nick Andros the film was poorly cast I mean who the hell was that playing Harold Lauder?
Gary Sinise as Stu Redman GENIUS. He's not how I imagined Stu nowhere near but he is a great actor I am sure he will do the charachter justice. I can't wait to see it. Need to finish the book first i'm now on page 1042.
@MissCottonTail09 I read this book back in the late 70s when it came out. I never could see who I'd cast as Stu back then, but Gary Sinise does it well. (btw, my casting choice back then for Larry Underwood was Richard Gere).
i absolutly loved this miniseries back when I was a kid-I don't know why. My uncle introduced me to the world of Stephen King and I guess this happened to be my favorite. Of course it may not be the best adaptation they've done of one of his books, but I still love it and hey for an adaptation of an 1100 pg. book its not half bad. M O O N that spells Tom :)
@saberbazer .... Me pointing out an invalid point of view isn't tough talking? And what's with all the insults. You are the one who can't seem to understand valid opinions.
@saberbazer ...Of course you can compare an apple to an orange dumbfuck. And saying the book is better than the film or vice versa is a perfectly reasonable opinion. It makes sense that one would bring the story across better than the other.

I saw this movie yesterday when it played on scifi channel, my second time seeing it.
My main critique with this movie is that it gives a not so subtle "the only good in the world is an American Christian" message it gives in the last two movies. Though as agnostic as I am, I still love this movie to death, the characters are amazing, the story is very nice, and the music score is beautiful. To me its a bitch slap with a holy bible, but one that makes you feel good for the experience.
I saw this movie back when it premiered on TV in the early 90s; I liked it so much that I bought the novel and enjoyed it even more. Even though the book and novel don't match in many respects, I think that most of the characters were well matched and that the ultimate battle of good against evil is well portrayed, I think that with any movie that is based on a novel, there has to be many restricitons with regards to what is appropriate for a visual audience.
If I was Stephan King I would be pissed they did such a horrible job with this movie. The soundtrack doesn't even belong. The whole movie was a comedy instead of horror. Too bad to, I actually liked some of the actors.
@3000ryu well actually, this song was played when Frannie and Harold found a gramophone and this song was what they were listening to. Whenever I hear this song or read the first half of the book, this song comes to mind.
Have to agree. Although I tend to write more dark fantasy based in medieval settings, I consider Stephen King as one of the best authors to ever live. I own a lot of his books which are just fantastic.
I was THRILLED when they used this song to open this installment, as it kept running through my head while I read the book! Amazing mini-series, and "The Stand" is arguably one of King's best novels. He got weak for a while after his accident, but is back in stride with "Under the Dome."
I watched only three series. I was too sad that Nick died. He was my favorite character when I read the book. I was so hoping he would survive. He's just too cute and awesome to die. :(
i love this song and i love this movie:)

The song is called "Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House. Great song, I just heard it on the radio today...

If I was Stephan King I would be pissed they did such a horrible job with this movie. The soundtrack doesn't even belong. The whole movie was a comedy instead of horror. Too bad to, I actually liked some of the actors.
3000ryu 1 year ago
@3000ryu well actually, this song was played when Frannie and Harold found a gramophone and this song was what they were listening to. Whenever I hear this song or read the first half of the book, this song comes to mind.

King was involved with most of the process of this film. He was IN the movie, like he is in most of the movies based on his books.
They were very limited with what they could do due to budget, length and technology (the cgi in the latter part of the film).

The Stand is by far the best written piece of work in the English language. The whole reason why I began to write.
Flagg1991 1 year ago

I loved Nick so much, too. I was amazed at how well Rob Lowe pulled him off, as he normally wouldn't have been my first choice to play him.
