Interesting that you choose many religious principals as your "10 commandments of Atheism". #1 you took from Jesus.. word for word. "Make your own morals" though is a joke. What about people who decide it's moral to kill certain others? IT's not okay to make your own morals, you need an ultimate moral standard. It's like road rules.. if everyone does their own thing, their will be alot of pain from the crashes.
why must you make what could have been a 60 second video 3 minutes...with ALL the good info and things to watch out there, you made me waster more of my life than I wanted to. I am looking for the answer to the question of atheist many commandments...not some art house interpretation with some enya like song in the back. Awfulness.
Its not really a song as much as a soundtrack/theme. You might recognize it from the end of the movie "Gladiator" staring Russel Crowe. I would start my search for it from that reference.
unfortunately on that comment on murder being moral, that is the religions' greatest argument yet they do not see the violence they inflict themselves. and NOT the radicals: everyone.
anyone who opresses someone for being different.
I grew up in a very christian house, went to private school. i was different. i understood the flaws. i was afraid to express myself. i was depressed
how many more had it worse? humans who are loved love. those who are in some way abused hate. love, not religion.
beautiful. it has made me fall in love with free thought all over again. i have felt more one, more whole when i search within myself than i have ever felt with others telling me that i must always be at the whim of god, who judges and opresses me.
such freedom, such inspiration, such good in atheism that the religious can not see existing without their god. they do not trust their own hearts and the good will of mankind.
No this is how YOU would like them to be. And for the record how have you done over your life in keeping your commandments? If you broke any a christian would say you have sinned and are in need of a saviour, other religions say the same give or take. The point is we cant even follow rules we set ourselves or live the life we want the world to live. Thats the problem. Morality when set can never be followed. For whats moral? In the end of course. Morality for survival? For peace? For control?
Religious people determine their own morals as well. Just look at how many versions there are of the 10 commandments, and how many interpretations of those commandments there are.
In any event, most christians don't even know their 10 commandments, yet so many point to them as a source of their morality.
I contend christians simply agree with their 10 commandments. (i.e. they had morals before they knew the 10 commandments)
determining what is moral in your own mind taken in context with the other commandments is the point. It is the 10 commandments not the one commandment out of context!
Very moving. A thousand percent improvement over the Judeo-Christian 10 commandments we were taught, many of which sought to appease an unpleasant, petty god, and another which seeks to treat women as chattel.
Beautiful music, too. From the soundtrack to "Gladiator."
Very good indeed. In fact, if anything you should make them slightly worse, otherwise millions of people might interpret deranged and violent meaning from them and start another bloody religion lol.
Those are good commandments and I agree with all of them. But they aren't really atheist commandments. They seem to me more like humanist commandments.
Also, most republicans -even if atheist- would disagree with at least a couple of those.
Commandment: A rule to guide ones life by; something that souldn't need to be written down!
