I'm 19 and have no rush to being a mom, since I really ain't ready for it... But you know, some people are. I know 3 people who are teenage moms (all moms at the age of 17-18) and one of these pregnancies was planned and she and her boyfriend both finished high school and are still together, I think they have 2 kids now.. anyways, people usually know themselves when they are ready for it, and other people should respect that.
Amen! Good for you! I believe that as long as you treat your child(ren) right and you take the responsibilities as a parent and are mature enough (which I see that you have just by the way you talk) age should not be factor. AKA, "you are too young" should be an ignorant statement.
I totally agree with you! Though I am not a young mother, I AM a young wife and people judge me all the time. "You look too young to be married." I hate hearing things like this because you don't know me from a can of paint, but you "know" that I'm too young for something? And for people to say that you should be out and partying, who said that that is what you WANT to do? Having children and getting married does not hinder you nor does it mean that you have to be chained to your house 24/7....
@Emmalene Im 20 and a young mom and I still get the comments of oh why have your daughter so young, why not give her up and focus on your life. That drives me mad
yeah but theres 2 sides who would want kids that young like when your young u should be enjoying life going out with friends partying not being home watching a child you wanna experince your life more but no you have kids u need to watch thats just my opinion
@roxxiiluvsyou While I respect and understand your opinion, there are some people, likemyself, that would rather have my children at this age. I already experienced and continue to experience life - I just have different interests than others.
Plus, say someone does have a baby young and they don't plan it - instead of focusing on what they are missing out on, they should focus on the new experiences parenthood will bring.
@roxxiiluvsyou just because someone has kids young, doesnt mean they cant enjoy life. no, they cant go out and party and be careless.. but big deal. i found out i was pregnant when i was 18 and had my daughter a month before my 19th birthday.. i'm 20 next month and i'm so happy i had her when i did. i didnt miss out on a damn thing. while most people my age are still partying, drinking and acting like screw ups, i'm bettering myself and being a damn good mum.
@roxxiiluvsyou by the way, i'm also enjoying my life much more than i did when i was careless. yeah, i bust my ass at school, get little sleep and no time to myself but its great. you experience so much more having a kid than you do otherwise and if you dont have a kid, then you dont get it. therefore, you dont have the right(just my opinion) to say "who would want to have kids that young". partying is useless to say the least. do something important with your time, like get an education...
AMEN!!! I'm 24 and pregnant with my first. I never planned to have kids late in life, and in no way to I feel like 24 is too young to be a first-time mom. It is unbelievable how many people judge me and tell me I'll be missing out on things because I am having children early. They dont know my background and all the things I have done for myself alone, now is the perfect time, for me, to focus on someone else and take that next step. I will not be missing out on life but experiencing LIFE!!
You are an inspiration to young mothers out there. I am not a mother or pregnant but i have close friends that are young mothers and the sad thing is that people in our community are rather judging and not understanding. But now to you congrats on the second baby and good luck.
Teen mothers:.ONLY 1/3 get HS diploma. 80% will be on welfare !The children of teen mothers have lower birth weights, are more likely to perform poorly in school, do drugs, join gangs, be violent, and are at greater risk of abuse and neglect & are 13 percent more likely to end up in prison while teen daughters are 22 percent more likely to become teen mothers themselves
wow, IM sad reading these hurtfully rude comments directed at you, im sorry you have to deal with this, i dont know you, but you seem like a strong woman and an amazing mother
Okay sooo why is everyone judging her decision.......Again HER decision! You can say something about it but dont be rude! Its not you, Its not your body. DONT just dislike a person by looking down on them and what they do! I too am a young mom! && it doesnt matter what people have to say at this point! All that matter is that i love my child.....I have been through alot && im sure all young mothers do! So dont put more weight on our backs by giving us more crap!
My mom had me at the your age and I have an brother that is 5 years older than me! She is a great mother and by seeing my friends with older parents I definately appriciate that we can do more active things together and that she is more understanding with the situations I am in:) Thank you for getting this out there!

@heaventrull Glad to see a fellow educated person. I, too graduated top 5 in my class (3rd, actually) after having received a full scholarship through my excellent grades in high school. Luckily for me, my school taught me tact and how not to sound like a pompous jerk when equating young parenthood with uneducated people.
I shall have fun with my kids - who are being raised in a house that speaks English, French, and ASL.
i see no problem with it, u were an adult when u had Alice, and i dont see anything wrong with it u were mature enough to make ur own decision and u r married. i also dont see anything wrong with younger people having kids, they made their own decisions they do things they want to do and most of the time u cant do anything about it.. so get over it all of u people who dont like it, its none of ur business anyway.
why would you want to have all those children at such a young age?? and for one everytime you have a child out of wedlock thats called SIN duhh and why can't ya'll have kids when you're more mature enjoy being young with NO RESPONSIBLITIES ii mean come on thats just stupid and im 17 no kids and im enjoying my life looking toward my future....
@DIAMONDNIKELLE I am married. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I'm sure you've sinned in your life as well. No one is perfect. I know God still loves me even though I have sinned in the past and will continue to sin in one way or another until the day I die (Not on purpose, of course)
I wanted to have a family at a young age. I enjoy the responsibilities of parenthood. I don't need to wait to become mature - I already am.
@Emmalene ma'am whatever flows your boat some ppl do not think like me and you are one of those ppl and yes everyone sins and Im glad you are married but there are tons of girls think that having a baby will make them feel good about themselves or feel loved most ppl that have children at a young age come frm broken homes...But hey thats my belief on how I feel about a young parents..especially teen moms I smh at that cause most of them can't even take care of themselves....
I don't think your too young either, I am 23 years of age and I have 3 children. I am also expecting another baby...This pregnancy started off as twins until I lost one so I would have 5 kids at 23. Here I had my first child at 17 and I was getting ready to turn 18...Don't let it bug you.
The age to be too young to be a mom is 13-17. Anytime after that isn't too young. I think the best age to become a mom is 20-36. You're a great mom. Don't let anybody tell you different.
I hear you. I was 18 with my first who is now 16 and have four more. And it depends on the person not the age. Some teems are too young and others are quite mature. Looking back I was too young. But I thought I did good and my children love me. I was too young in the sense that I had no idea what being a mom detailed. I learned and I love my job. I'm from ns Canada and now am living in Ontario. Thank you for discussing this topic.
@kidstwomany Thanks for your input on it as well. There is never a one-size-fits-all for parenthood and I wish more people would see that, especially when it comes to the age of the parents.
Emma, I know you were young when you had Alice, but you and Mike have been doing an excellent job with her. You both have always been mature for your age. You are both smart and loving people. The people saying this to you are probably the ones who had their first child at the same age. You guys are married and it's not like you slept with some random guy when you were younger. You and Mike always knew you'd be together forever.
You're a smart woman but your argument was inconsistent. You both came out against and for people who pass along a judgment about you being a young Mother.
You also backed away from the idea of girls having children as soon as they ovulate which, as I'm sure you know, is passing along a judgment that they're too young.
And if you get any negative comments from older people who are asking why you had kids so young I'm sure you can understand why. Age changes perspectives.
how do you deal with people bugging you over and over and over again? my whole family is gonna drive me insane i swear its a good thing my grandmother is still living!
@BrittanyHargestFan4 I would just say "and I suppose you'll be paying for the diapers and baby supplies and taking care of the baby if I have it?" They got the hint after that.
Emmalene, dont worry about this kind of thing, like age, like right time etc
You made your choices, there is no right and wrong, you just will pick up the consequences (bad and good), its a racional thing. Remember, about critics or comments, if you dont do anything you will receive critics, if you do manythings you will receive them too. So, do it what you want or have to do, just keep going.
Pregnant women, and to a lesser extent women with young children are socially "public property" in North America. 24 years ago when my wife was pregnant, she was sometimes shocked at what people would say. It seems everyone has an obligation to give advice to a pregnant woman.
That's probably good from a society standpoint. We want to protect the young of the community. Annoying to the individual.
So except for the "hope everything goes well"'s, don't take it personally.
those who say you are too young are nuts! Our parents generation were getting married at the age of 18 and having their first child at 19-21 years of age. That was normal. Our generation is all about having children when they are past the age of 35, which isn't safe/healthy. I am proud of you for this video. You're an awesome mother and will raise this second child just as well as you did with Alice. There are 40 year old mothers out there that aren't even half the mother you are.
are you a dumb ass because being only in your early 20tys is young for having a baby and say you already had one mean when you were a teen you were fucking around and that does say your immature dumb shit
@beardeddragon111 Not that I have to defend my actions to you, but I wasn't 'fucking around' I have only ever been with my husband (I'm married btw) and I will admit that while I have matured in my 4 and a half years of parenting, I was still mature enough to handle it then.
And next time you want to prove your 'superiority' to me, please write like an intelligent person and use the proper version of "you're" when using the short form of 'you' and 'are'
Don't bother! For the few pieces of your life, that you decided to share with us, your suscribers, on how you are doing as a xxxxxx(put an adjective here) mom, IMHO you are doing just fine. Your daughter, baby and husband shoul feel so happy and complete with you in their lifes. Keep it up!
Let It Be picture = amazing!! And by the by, many people have nothing better to do with their lives than judge others. Having children in one's early 20's will be beneficial in the long run. More energy to deal with the kids. ;)
Well, you've answered your question yourself - it's unusual to have kids on such young age nowadays, or it rather seems unusual. I don't think people are judging (well some are for sure), they are just not expecting it and are honestly surprised.
I was married at 17, first child at 19, second child at 21. (i am happily married now for 6 years! I still get the looks but i decided a long time people will judge no matter what. I judge, you judge. We try not too but we do. You know what you can handle. Kudos to you and congrats on the new baby!
@benvolio15 it's not that they didn't want to help me. It's that distance and heading off to college made it hard to keep in touch...though I really tried to reach out to a few, they weren't willing to put the work into making the friendship last - their loss!
The ones that did stick around have been awesome, though...but that's only like 2 or 3
Some people can be so judgemental, don't worry emmalene you are doing a good job. it could be that your tired chasing alice and being pregnant that's running you down? you will be o.k., you have a good head on a young body. Bye
Love you girl, great insight and wisdom, you always make me smile and tell it like it is and you are an amazing person so who cares what others think, we know the truth! Congratulations on everything you've accomplished in life you should be proud and I'm looking forward to seeing the new addition!
Society makes it unacceptable to have children under the age of 25. I don't think having children at your age is too young... People say when your 30 its bad to ahve kids at that age... So it really makes no sense when it is 'socially accepted' to have children.
You would have been considered an OLDER mother 100 years ago, when girls got married and had kids at 16 - 18. You're a legal adult and a great mother, so I don't see how anyone could complain! I guess if they didn't know you, they could assume you were younger than you are?
I think that it is because one would have put a lot of thought into when or whether to have a child that most people will think it alright to ask. Most people who get married talk about it at some time - or at least they should have. Mind you they really put their foot in their mouth if the person they ask can't have kids. I think you probably wouldn't mind being asked as much if it weren't for the age comments.
Obiously they don't mean you should shove Alice back. That's just rediculous. They mean you should put her in a stasis chamber for a few years.
23 is a pretty normal age to have child. That's usually when they've just finished university or college if they went. But you do have a very young quality about you which a lot of mothers don't have. Yet you also have a motherly quality about you too. Come to think of it, it's pretty cool that you can do both.
You've never appeared to be too young to be a mom to me. Yet I also understand where your coming from, because people tell me all the time at 25 that even I am too young to even be thinking of wanting children. You are a great mother! Alice looks great in her dance photo :)
You are 100% right about being a mother! What I don't understand is what business is it of any one else's your age or your family status? Anyway keep up the good work and congratulations on your beautiful family. I have been a subscriber of yours since long before Alice was in the picture and think you are a special person. Emmalene......don't ever second guess yourself as I believe you are a wonderful parent and mother. My hat is off to you.
Here's a little nkown secret, though. Alice has always been in the picture. She was actually one of the reasons I started youtube. I had her MONTHS before my first video and that's why I moved in to Mike's parents. I had none of my old friends (well, I had one) so I decided to do video to connect with people.
Alice just became public knowledge once the time was right
lol I'd never look at a baby and say 'oh oh I want one!' lmao animals yes.... But what it reminds me of is how way back when if you weren't married and pregnant with your first child by the time you were 16 you were in danger of becoming an old maid! lol
Sorry I missed Alice's recital! :D Hope we can find time to hang soon! xoxox
1.) Love Niagara Falls, 6 hour drive for us(roughly), but we go when-ever we can. Met my wifey there(who's from Northern Ontario).
2.) I know a girl that had a child at 13, now THAT was too young. You seem mature and you were ready, you made a decision... Forget all those judgmental folks.
yes I really wish people could understand that there are lots of young mothers out there. And you are right, age does not determine what makes a great mom. Age has nothing to do with how much you love your child(ren). I am sooo happy for you and Mike (and Alice) on your soon to be new edition. do you know if you are having a boy or a girl yet? congrads!! :)
Emma you are such an inspiraion. it is hnestly none of their business what age you are. I have no problem with poeople who want to start early. my friend is a teen mother and i told her to watch your vlogs. she thought they were great and you helped her though it without even knowing!! :)
@pizzapie2011 Thank you so much! I'm glad I could help someone! Age does not decide whether or not someone makes a good parent and I wish more and more people would start understanding that
I'm 19 and have no rush to being a mom, since I really ain't ready for it... But you know, some people are.

Keep it up!

Emma, good for you girl. Keep it up, ignore people that tell you that you're too young to be a mom. and have another one on top of Alice.
JInnestigers 1 year ago
I think it's totally acceptable that you're a mom, and you're doing the right thing.
Ignore the haters...you're not as young as SOME people (there have been news stories of lots of 12-14 year olds getting pregnant in the UK)
to be honest, I saw myself as being married and having kids at 22 ....it didn't work out for me that way, but I always saw it as the ideal age.
I'm 25 now and no such thing has happened though ....to me you are extremely lucky to have had kids when you did :) it's good.

Let It Be picture = amazing!! And by the by, many people have nothing better to do with their lives than judge others. Having children in one's early 20's will be beneficial in the long run. More energy to deal with the kids. ;)
BlackPearlGurl 1 year ago
Well, you've answered your question yourself - it's unusual to have kids on such young age nowadays, or it rather seems unusual. I don't think people are judging (well some are for sure), they are just not expecting it and are honestly surprised.

I was married at 17, first child at 19, second child at 21. (i am happily married now for 6 years! I still get the looks but i decided a long time people will judge no matter what. I judge, you judge. We try not too but we do. You know what you can handle. Kudos to you and congrats on the new baby!

Wait...you lost almost all of your old friends when you were pregnant with Alice? They didn't want to help you at all?
benvolio15 1 year ago
@benvolio15 it's not that they didn't want to help me. It's that distance and heading off to college made it hard to keep in touch...though I really tried to reach out to a few, they weren't willing to put the work into making the friendship last - their loss!
The ones that did stick around have been awesome, though...but that's only like 2 or 3

My mother already had her first child, (my brother), at 19 and at 22 she had twins, but that was in the 60's.

Congratulations on everything you've accomplished in life you should be proud and I'm looking forward to seeing the new addition!
soulpatrol2007 1 year ago
Society makes it unacceptable to have children under the age of 25. I don't think having children at your age is too young... People say when your 30 its bad to ahve kids at that age... So it really makes no sense when it is 'socially accepted' to have children.
SarahRainah 1 year ago
You would have been considered an OLDER mother 100 years ago, when girls got married and had kids at 16 - 18. You're a legal adult and a great mother, so I don't see how anyone could complain! I guess if they didn't know you, they could assume you were younger than you are?
ByeByeBelly 1 year ago
0k so you had your 1st when you were 18 i guess?....that's not to young. 13,14,15 is to young!! You'll be fine who cares about others opinions.
nugget254 1 year ago

Alice looks great in her dance photo :)
ch0cobaybee 1 year ago
You are 100% right about being a mother! What I don't understand is what business is it of any one else's your age or your family status? Anyway keep up the good work and congratulations on your beautiful family. I have been a subscriber of yours since long before Alice was in the picture and think you are a special person. Emmalene......don't ever second guess yourself as I believe you are a wonderful parent and mother. My hat is off to you.

@Arkguy Thank you!

Love the rant Em!!
lol I'd never look at a baby and say 'oh oh I want one!' lmao animals yes.... But what it reminds me of is how way back when if you weren't married and pregnant with your first child by the time you were 16 you were in danger of becoming an old maid! lol
Sorry I missed Alice's recital! :D Hope we can find time to hang soon! xoxox

@DavesVideos313 Yes, I go to Niagara Falls every year. It's only 45 minutes away, I'd be crazy not to.
I stay on the Canadian side, though.

@Emmalene
1.) Love Niagara Falls, 6 hour drive for us(roughly), but we go when-ever we can. Met my wifey there(who's from Northern Ontario).
2.) I know a girl that had a child at 13, now THAT was too young. You seem mature and you were ready, you made a decision... Forget all those judgmental folks.
illogicalmethod 1 year ago
yes I really wish people could understand that there are lots of young mothers out there. And you are right, age does not determine what makes a great mom. Age has nothing to do with how much you love your child(ren). I am sooo happy for you and Mike (and Alice) on your soon to be new edition. do you know if you are having a boy or a girl yet? congrads!! :)
pizzapie2011 1 year ago
Emma you are such an inspiraion. it is hnestly none of their business what age you are. I have no problem with poeople who want to start early. my friend is a teen mother and i told her to watch your vlogs. she thought they were great and you helped her though it without even knowing!! :)
pizzapie2011 1 year ago
@pizzapie2011 Thank you so much! I'm glad I could help someone! Age does not decide whether or not someone makes a good parent and I wish more and more people would start understanding that
