I am for any decrease in capital gains tax because that is one of a plethora of pernicious and unfair taxes that only go to double and triple tax American. hile Obama proposes a capital gains cut for new small businesses and other start ups, he will at the same time raise the capital gains tax on other businesses and wealthy individuals.

Aside from just small vs. large businesses in general. As an investor, one might look at a 15% cap gains rate on stocks and see a good deal. At 35%, heck, I'll just take a 5% CD, stifling investment and spawning zero new jobs.
New businesses have no long term assets, hence the word new. A capital gain is realized after holding something at least a year. Eliminating the capital gain only on start ups is entirely ceremonial.
If you give poor and middle class Americans money, they send that money right back into the economy. Thus increasing the profits of AMERICAN companies, and increaseing AMERICAN jobs. When you give money to the rich, they can sit on it, or invest, thus indirectly putting it back into the economy, but not directly. But, this investment can be where ever they want it to be, they can send it over seas, they can even hide it from the IRS.
Trickle down economics, tried twice, led to Huge deficits, and the rich making more, and everyone else making less. Trickle up economics eliminated our deficit, made all Americans feel like they were doing better, and led to huge profits for corporations. So please tell me what you don't understand.

If I run up $300K in debt on my credit card, I don't blame my employer for paying me too little. Raising taxes will generate more revenue to a point, but to raise them too high costs the gov't money. Wow. Do some research. Every time capital gains tax rate is decreased, tax revenue from capital gains tax goes UP. EVERY TIME. Reagan had rate at 28%, Clinton cut rate to 20%, Bush cut rate to 15%. Tax revenue higher EVERY time rate cut. So why would Obama increase it? He already answered this in a debate with Clinton. He said in order "for fairness". Even when told revenue would go down, he insisted it's not "fair" for capital to be taxed at lower rate than labor. What an idiot.

He turned around an economy where people had to pay 22% interest on home loans (meaning they couldn't afford to buy houses) He spent a great deal on defense. This is a myth. Under both Clinton and Bush, unemployment has been extremely low. Especially compared to Carter, whose policies Obama wants to mimic. It's wise to invest in the other countries because they have lower corp tax rates and often much less regulation. This has destroyed manufacturing here. Ireland once had the highest corp taxes in Europe AND the highest unemployment with it. They slashed the tax rates, it got them full employment and tons of companies moved back into Ireland.

I am for any decrease in capital gains tax because that is one of a plethora of pernicious and unfair taxes that only go to double and triple tax American. hile Obama proposes a capital gains cut for new small businesses and other start ups, he will at the same time raise the capital gains tax on other businesses and wealthy individuals.

Yes -- too many taxes piled atop each other.
Obama cutting cap gains on small business really does little.
Raising it on large business? Corporations do not pay taxes. They can only pay those taxes three ways.
1. Charge consumers (the middle and low class) more.
2. Dump employees
3. Pay shareholders less (as you know, not all companies even pay dividends)

The economy won't merely jump start by all sorts of new businesses entering the market place. In fact the overwhelming majority of new businesses fail. The economy gets jump started if all businesses invest more. By raising the capital gains on some while cutting it on others, all he is doing is redistributing where capital is invested. Furthermore, new businesses rarely have any capital gains. That's because a capital gain is on the sale of a long term asset.

Aside from just small vs. large businesses in general. As an investor, one might look at a 15% cap gains rate on stocks and see a good deal. At 35%, heck, I'll just take a 5% CD, stifling investment and spawning zero new jobs.

New businesses have no long term assets, hence the word new. A capital gain is realized after holding something at least a year. Eliminating the capital gain only on start ups is entirely ceremonial.

If you give poor and middle class Americans money, they send that money right back into the economy. Thus increasing the profits of AMERICAN companies, and increaseing AMERICAN jobs. When you give money to the rich, they can sit on it, or invest, thus indirectly putting it back into the economy, but not directly. But, this investment can be where ever they want it to be, they can send it over seas, they can even hide it from the IRS.

The congress causes deficits by spending more than they take in. That's not the fault of people's tax rates. If I run up $300K in debt on my credit card, I don't blame my employer for paying me too little. Raising taxes will generate more revenue to a point, but to raise them too high costs the gov't money. (Laffer curve)

After this mini-rally we are now seeing, the market will crash again. I would advise anyone in the market to cash out now. Within 6 months, the market will be somewhere around 5,000. Inflation will come roaring back also. Obama's plan are idiotic. President Carter looks like a genius compared to Obama.
