a testament to vw power, rods and bolt ons for 416whp! if you could message me a list of mods, that'd be great. i'm most likely gonna aim for 320whp with a solid torque curve. already at 20psi but the turbo hates it, i need supporting mods.
@xtreme489 The 1.8t comes with a forged crankshaft and forged Mahle pistons from the factory. The weak point is the cast connecting rods. His vid says he replaced those rods with Integrated Engineering forged rods. Stock crank, stock pistons, aftermarket forged rods are good for 500 reliable horsepower.
nice car, i may be buying an 01 with the 1.8t. I know nothing about these cars as i have always owned american cars, how much hp can the stock motor safely handle and where can i find aftermarket parts for these things, i briefly looked online and couldnt find shit. i know they come stock with 150bhp but id love to get it up to about 200-250 at the wheels, somethin that would be relatively quick and fun to drive, is it even possible without over boosting the shit out of the car
@bluestangGT2001 Where were you looking? There is a ton of stuff available for the 1.8t platform. The stock internals can't handle a lot because the rods like to bend under torque loads above 275lb ft at the crank. Some people have gotten away with 300 or so torque at the crank, but it's Russian Roulette at that point. Not a matter of if, but when the engine tosses a rod out of the block. 250hp at the wheels is incredibly easy to do, no engine work necessary.
@tplayer100 Need? Maybe not right away. Many people have used bigger turbos than that on stock engines, but ran low boost. APR uses that turbo quite successfully on stock engines.
Will you want rods? Yes. The low end torque that a gt28rs creates is what will kill your rods. Rods are relatively inexpensive, unless you have a shop install them. You can do rods for $400. A shop will cost you $1500. But, $1500 is FAR cheaper than replacing an engine that slings a rod out of the block.
Pagparts has the best parts for power and by far the best customer service. Eurodyne has the best software (there are others that are good, but Eurodyne has the best features/options). MJM Autohaus has the best prices on replacement and maintenance parts and things such as upgraded suspension. And there are many other niche companies too. 42 Draft Designs, Eurojet Racing to name a couple.
So what all consist of this build? My buddy has a 01' 1.8T flashed with GIAC-X+ software, intake, and GHL turbo back 2.5'exhaust and it's estimated somewhere at about 195-200hp. He wants to make high 3s. Should he go with the GT28R or the GT28RS? Maybe the GT3071R?
I am happy with a 400+ hp jetta but if I could do it all over again I would probably go with a GT28RS. More that 300hp is pretty pointless becuase of traction, and with a smaller turbo you can dig into some of those lower RPM's. Don't get me wrong, from a role over 30 MPH and it's a great turbo to have but you have to be past 4000 rpms to even utilize it. After driving both a GT28rs and my GT3076R I would go with the smaller, unless your planning on differential work and tracking the car.
@knifesbatsnewtats PLease ...Please help me dude.... i'm planing get a biger turbo for my 05 Gti 1.8t and i decide GT28RS, the kit come bold on for my car.... do you really thing that i will need to chip or flash my ECU?? what other mods do you recomend?? i already have Front intercooler and CAI, full exaust. please write me..thanks
@knifesbatsnewtats hello dude...have you ever heard about the GT2871R?? please tell me because i'm planing to get this one,.... is smaller that the GT3076R.... for sure....
can you tell me where you got that grill with that red and white badge it looks so sick i cant find it anywhere. I was thinkin you bought the grill and then stuck the badge on but it looks sick.. i got an 04 1.8t
@knifesbatsnewtats yea dude the 5th gear on these cars is impressive especially with your setup.. i have revo software , turbosmart fmic, apr r1 diverter valve, aem cai and its pretty deece
OK remember that the second was done with a bigol GT32 on around 19PSI nonballbearing. At around 5700 ALT. The new GT3076r pulls much quicker I just haven't done a 0-100 with it.
Same as above. Try starting at 80 and just mash the gas in 5th. Trust me, on the same trip with the GT32, I beat a porsche carrera. By a hair but either way its fast trust me. Just because I wasn't all over it doesn't mean its not. Check out the 0-100 acceleration. This will give you a better impression. That was with the nice laggy GT32.
yeah dude, I understand the whole mash it on 5th, my k04-001(little-big guy) spools up quick and gets me to 140 with out me having to count. I will post soon. I just expected more when your big-ass turbo finally peaked. good vid though
what can I tell you... it was 353whp 338tq. now its 416whp 358tq. I have buddies with K04 kits and one friend with and APR III+ kit and while they boost earlier than I do, I eat their lunch everytime.
I will make another video getting on it. It makes a huge diffrence all the way through the gear letting boost build slow or boosting it hard off the get go. I have ridden/drivin smaller turbo cars and it's just not the same. Go big turbo and you will understand. My peak HP range is from 5500k up. So most of the pull you saw was below the peak hp range. It was meant to show spool diffrences in the turbo.
5500, ok I understand, forgive me I have never experienced a big turbo first hand. In no way am I trying to say my ko4 is faster, its not. I was just a little confused. I plan on going BT in the tax season. show more vids please( I will keep my mouth shut this time)
It's cool when I am racing my car hard I run it all the way to 8K LOL! Are you going to go with a GT28Rs? Gread turbo quick spool but maxes out at around 300whp. You will need something bigger. If you want to get some more specs go to c3cars . com I am fukindubin
fuckin love these jettas

@qzbikowski do you think i would need new connecting rods for a gt28rs turbo and software or will stock internals be able handle the 300- 320 whp?

OK start in your top gear at 80 and just mash the gas. You not going to be as fast as you think. Its diffrent if you build speed gear to gear.

dint happen to be tim in the chair was it?..lol one of these days im genna trade the passat in for a lighter 1.8t..prolly a jet or a GTi
