Honestly, saying this is from Final Fantasy VII is kinda unnacurate. Sure, it was in that game, but it also was in pretty much every other FF out there that I've played (And I've played up to X-2, excluding IX).
Another thing: I think VII is overrated. Sure, it's a good game, but I think people like it more than it deserves. I think this is probably because it brought 3D to the series, but I think there are other FFs that are better, like IV, V or VIII
@masterplusmargarita I will agree that it's overrated, but let me just say, there are reasons people like it more. I recently played ff7(yeah, i'm a late bloomer) and he hype I got from wanting to play it... Let's just say it was disapointing(music is the best though), but i am willing to say that it is the best FF game. Truthfully, I like ff4 more, because I played that as a child. ff8, I'm still working on, so no comments except that I love the story so far.
@masterplusmargarita It is not overrated. You must understand that this game brought a heck load of peoples into a genre they didn't give a damn about. Sure the story isn't that original, the graphics suck, some moments are cringe worthy, etc. I'll give you that. But how many games can turn a casual gamer into a jrpg fanboy ? If it wasn't for #7, I know I wouldn't have played the other games you mentionned.
I wish I could rewind time so I could play this game for the first time again~ T.T These games are just EPIC, and there's nothing like playin' 'em for the first time an' gettin' that feeling inside where you're like 'omfg, this is AWESOME~ O.o' Thank gwad for Uematsu-dono, his beautiful scores are half the magic of Final Fantasy~ ♥♥♥♥♥
Hmm... I'd say I prefer VI's version (a flute is much prettier than a clarinet and violin IMO), but the Prelude is the Prelude, and this is still brilliant.
the way this piece is arranged at 0:47 is the reason the FF7 version of the prelude is the best. it beats you over the head with fantastic memories you couldn't have unless you've lived in a final fantasy world - but the closest you ever get is playing the game.
when that sound (whatever it is) comes in at 0:47 i feel a wave of nostalgia wash over me.this song i can truly say, without a doubt is one of my very favorite song ever.
I also recomend Motoi Sakuraba. He's also great, especially pieces from STAR OCEAN 3,"Around the wilderness",and "Expiration".The Main Star ocean theme is also awesome.
The great thing about Final Fantasy music under Uematsu was that a number of themes kept popping up as staples of the series; however, each time they were improvised and tweaked to give them a new flavor while keeping their classical origins. This, the main theme from the first game, the chocobo theme, and the victory fanfare are all good examples.
amazing!.....that this song, while in its simplicity is only 4 notes going up and down 4 octaves in different key signatures, came from a man who had no college education and only took 10 min to come up with it.......genius.
@strifedavid bethoven did something similar and its one of the most recognized songs in the world, dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun, dun dun, dun da.
I love that with the music from this game, I can automatically see where it's played and when. I remember all the stuff associated with it; characters, story, everything. That's why I love VII's soundtrack.
The music made this game, and it being 3d at the time, and having a wonderful story, and a main character that died was very moving to me at the time, and... oh forget it, it was just plain wonderful.
I love both the old and the new FF music. FFXIII has some incredibly awesome themes. I'd especially listen to the battle theme, Snow's Theme and the final boss music. So...epic.
But of course, no-one can forget the amazing prelude. Hail to you, Nobuo.
Come on people, freacking move on, it´s not like Nobuo was the best game composer in the world. One fo the best yes, and I´ll never forget him. But we seriously need to move on and make room for newer composers. and the recent FF music has been buttsecks awesome to me, i´m doing just fine without Nobuo, with that said, I hope he lives another 50 in plenty good health.
@Bloodthirst1011 Don't worry I am 20 hours in and I have not heard it once! The actual FF13 music is very very good stuff. Search for the FF13 prelude, battle music and boss music. Inspiring!
@Veggis92 I sense a Umatasu-san fanboy >_> It's widely regarded that FFXIII, even with its mixed reception by fans, has an amazing soundtrack. Though I doubt you ever played that game.
@julienlego hahaha show me where it is widely regarded as an amazing soundtrack? The title theme and the battle music were the only 2 that stood out to me and were memorable. No prelude, no FF theme, no good boss battle music...I just didn't like most of it.
@GameMasterSoko RPGFan, GameStop, SquareEnixMusic, pick any of them. They all say that XIII has an amazing soundtrack. It's very different from the other soundtracks done by Nobuo. Essentially, like the game itself, it's the next evolution of the franchise. I could go on and on analyzing the soundtrack, but I won't to save your patience.
@GameMasterSoko The point you made that the only tracks you enjoyed was the title and battle music. That shows that the soundtrack didn't have a big impact on you. That said, it's highly likely that you just didn't enjoy the game. Not all FF games need a prelude or the main theme. FFX didn't have the prelude.
@julienlego Yes it did. At the start of the game, when Tidus is being swarmed by his adoring, annoying fans, a sped-up Prelude plays over a bouncy dance track. I didn't notice it for years though, so I can't blame you for not noticing it either.
@GameMasterSoko And as I recall only the older FF games had some version of the main theme. Also keep in mind that we're not in the '90s anymore. Look at Nobuo's recent work in FFXIV and see how it's different from his earlier works.
The first time I listened to this and started to watch those credits I wasn't aware of the overwhelming experience that was about to begin... in the end, I understood those names belonged to geniuses...hail to the old Squaresoft
Nobuo Uematsu is the absolute GENIUS composer who, for about 20 years, did the majority of the music in Squaresoft's games. He left the company a short while after FFX, to focus on his band. He basically remixes his own songs now.
From the 80s to the early-2000s, if the game was made by Squaresoft, you could be pretty sure that he was involved in it.
Happy birthday Mr. Uematsu! One of the best composers in all of video games, I'd go so far as to call him THE composer. So many classics, that the only way to count them is to read the back of each OST disc and count :P.
The song that represents the Final Fantasy series for Uematsu's birthday! I chose FFVII but I could have chosen the Prelude from any of the other games. Thanks to Tsusho1 for reminding me.
