In case anyone reads the comment below me: I'm pretty sure that was the cat. It COULD've been a person, but why would they make a signal AFTER the dog moves to its "waiting" position?
Do you want to learn what enlightenment really is?Not satisfied with what you have found?paranormal powers, psychic readings, it is all possible.Search no more, THE-HIDDEN-SPIRITdotCOM is the end of the road.
Alex whats going on with these experiments any latest news, also i made one error i think i made a mistake with my comments about law of attraction, seems somebody has a blog with the same name of skeptiko but slightly different spelling, my apologies, so what's happening with these experiments any new dataa?
This is bullshit. Waiting 18 minutes isn't accurate. How big a margin of error do you guys need? If the dog waited 30 minutes would still have classified this as a success? I say leave the dog for 24 hours then see how telepathic it is...bet it started waiting well before even half of that was up.
You didn't get the point. Apparently, the dogs move onto their waiting spots as soon as their owners are on their way home, thus waiting 18 minutes until he/she arrives.
Not saying anything about the experiment itself as it seems to be still ongoing.
@Ishkariot I'm afraid you're psychic ability is as good as the dog's - I understood that.
Answer me this. I'm a psychic dog. I know when my owner leaves work. Since I'm psychic I also know when they're at the end of the street. So why on earth do I need to waste 18 minutes of my time sitting in my waiting spot?
This is absolutely amazing research! Please don't waste too much time responding to the childish acting dogmatic skeptics. You will never convince them regardless of the evidence. Like all fundamentalists they have an overriding need for certainty in their lives and are threatened by anything that challenges their closed minded belief system. I for one am digging these videos!

Are you going to come out with the third video? Or is just like the first two? Dog piddles around and then sits in the hall about 50 minutes after mom leaves?
Thx... and you're very right... all aspects of our experiment will be open. Everyone will be able to see and comment on the design of the protocol, the running of the experiment, and the analysis of the results.
If Randi uses his challenge to beat people over the head, then when people invite him to undergo tests or studies then he is also has an obligation to take them up on their offer, unless you believe he is the supreme guru and everyone has to go through his organisation, how can alex be dodging randi, when his test would unlike jref be out in the open and using hardline skeptics like wiseman etc, though using wiseman makes me thinks that alex is not that objective also.
Alex, why do you even want to prove to someone like Randi that PSI exists? It doesn't matter if its real or not to Randi, he has a good money making career as a celebrity skeptic, he isn't going to admit its real no matter what he is shown, he will always find a way to explain it in a way he sees as rational. One day Randi & his devoted fans will see how silly & narrow minded they have been, just keep the knowledge that one day they will not be able to deny it, laugh at them, the jokes on them.

Alex,
It's quite clear that you're dodging this whole application issue. The million dollar challenge has had the same rules for years. Imagine the consternation and problems that would accrue to the JREF if you were given a special dispensation about the form? Everyone else would consider themselves cheated.
Just fill out the form and submit it, then you can proceed to the testing protocols and 'independent research' It's quite simple really.
belgrath, first of all as i Read it, alex wasn't making any claims, therefore he dosen't have to apply for a challenge to prove it, as alex said, the randi challenge is not a litmus test for paranormal phenomena, also randi admitted scientists have nothing to do with him, if randis challenge is not a benchmark for paranormal claims, then it is not for anybody else, also randi does not have a monopoly on testing, randi is the one running away hiding behind his challenge.Cont:
As Randi has already stated, real research by independant researchers is a superior way to go. I've offered Randi an opportunity to participate and have selected a very Skeptical researcher to do the study... we'll see if James Randi is for real.

If you can't be bothered to actually **apply** for the MDC, then it's not Randi who has the credibility problem.
Randi sent you a one-line e-mail that read, "Apply for the JREF's million-dollar prize...." Then, without any further communication from Randi, you put out a press release talking about how pleased you were to be working with the JREF, etc. Did you miss the word "apply" in his message?
And FYI, the MDC doesn't preclude "real research by independent researchers."

Ditto.
You damage your own credibility by not answering questions such as these directly. If you're not going to apply, then say it. And don't try to weasely imply that Randi isn't keeping his word.

A few clarifications. Do you have 3 trials or 4 trials in total? Also, on several podcasts you took Wiseman to task for performing, I think, 6 trials and then drawing conclusions from this. As far as we've seen, you've presented 2 trials (each showing a dog that simply takes the waiting position at the same time) and concluded this is telepathy. Do you not see a small inconsistency here? And finally, you claimed Shel's other car trials showed no difference but this was not true at all. Comment?

Alex if you're really interested in what might be going on, you should first examine Skinners work with pigeons and developing superstitious behavior. Grab a google on it. "pigeons superstitious behavior". First hit. I don't see these two experiments being anything different. Dog learns a magic position that brings someone home after an hour.

Mom leaves. But the son is also out of the house. There are two people out of the house now, increasing the chance of a hit. Geez. Again, I see the mother leaving at 9:37. The dog takes the waiting spot about an hour (10:47) after the mother leaves. This is still in keeping with "mom leaves at a non routine time, this means get ready for her return in an hour." But now the son fortuitously starts coming back at the hour mark and you label this a hit. I see nothing here different. Sorry.

When the owner leaves for home I assume by "a minute or two" you mean 4 minutes.
In video one the owner starts her journey home 80m after leaving home, using the dog as the marke because you only say "about." Probably a bit sooner.
In the second video the owner begins to return home 71m after leaving. and the dog goes to waiting area at 75m.
This needs to be controlled. When both videos show the dog moving to the area about 75m after the owner leaves,it could be normal behavior for the dog.
In case anyone reads the comment below me: I'm pretty sure that was the cat. It COULD've been a person, but why would they make a signal AFTER the dog moves to its "waiting" position?

How do the owners know that is their "unique waiting spot" if, as you say, the dogs rarely use it when someone is already at home with them?
