  • pile of shit.

  • Blimey they look so much better in Freightliner green

  • yea lol

  • They arrived in the UK last week,to find that DB SCHENKER have pinched their intended traffic. 002 is in the Bristol area, 001 went to Lawley street Birmingham.

Will they go better than they look ?????

  • Great footage ,,they look better in freightliner livery 5*s vid thanks sean

  • 70 has 2 tons on Kestrel - at least that was good looking! Who needs aerodynamics when you've got all that power!

  • I suspect that the GE 70s will have an RA8 route availability because of their wheel to weight ratio. Despite the proveness of the 59s, the American loco market isn't always there when the 66s have suffered from rough riding, cab vibration and noise.

  • Looks like a 58 on steroids.

  • Brutally straightlaced looking Johno4521 and because of their weight (135t) and wheel arrangement (Co-Co), they'll have a high axleload and a restricted route availability. The 1968 HS4000 Kestrel had this similar problem no wonder why it didn't last and was banished to the Soviet Union.

  • god what happened a shame another lump from abroad give future ordersto brush!!!!

  • They should try crashing it into a nuclear flask like they did with a class 46, that would improve the looks!

  • The designer must have smoked half a ton of weed!!! and how the hell was this approved??

  • @71cooper

They must have been pissed in the design office.

  • This from Freightliner:

The front of the cabs are a result of future proofing the design to the pending locomotive TSI.

The TSI calls up two euro norms that require a 3m cube survival space in the cab for the driver as well as the requirement to fit anti-climbers.

As a result we have three stage crash provisions:

    Stage 1 - Collapsible buffers

Stage 2 - Anti climbers engage to prevent climbing and also second stage crush zone

Stage 3 - Crush box hidden behind the buffers.

  • Jesus Christ - was the designer of the front end on horrible drugs?

This is easily the most horrifically ugly locomotive ever built ever ever ever.

It looks like the back of a fridge - I'm amazed it was approved.

    Hideous. Disgusting. It's a joke.

  • I've seen worse...

  • class 66 for example

  • Not really, that is actually nicer IMO.

What I really was referring to was the japan Shinkansen Fastek.

And by seen I mean seen on the computer.

  • yes Shinkansen looks really bad. As does those new Class 380 EMU's. Most people say the 66's and 70's are ugly, they are nothing compared to those monstrosities!!!

  • To be honest, most of the new bullet trains in japan look awful, I actually say that one of them has a chin because of its shape.

To be honest, the bullet trains actually beat the class 390s when it comes to ugliness.

If you ask me the best of the trains were around when it was the 50s to 60s when streamlining didn't matter.

the 1990s didn't have bad trains either.

Surely like the 2000s makes everything look worse then it already is. By that I mean not just trains.

  • what dreadful looking machines. They look like Reliant Robins on rails. Cheap nasty design yuk!

  • the american locos r beter, and metadyeman, wat is so wrong with the american locos

  • Well I never said there was anything wrong with the American locomotives as a whole but what is wrong with these new ones (the class 70 as they are to be known) is they lack any form of aesthetic (pleasing) shape. If you were to sit one of these next to a Class 47 for example you would immediately notice that someone cared how a loco looked with the class 47 but it seems the design pen slipped across the page and drew loads of ugly features with the class 70.

  • oh, good point, the class 70 is way shorter than the dash 9's , plus it looks like it can pull only 10 ore cars XD

  • Have you any engine details? It sounds 4 stroke to me, definately will sound better under load than 66's!!

  • Why have you ripped this from the Freightliner site?

  • looks WAY too american. why can't anyone produce trains that actually look british? these look american, the javelins look japenese, WHERE'S THE BRITISHNESS?

  • Because we dont make anything anymore, the Britishness has gone. All we are known for now is fat cat corporate greed and fleecing the public.....what a crying shame, eh?

  • yeah!

  • built your own 'Britishness' trains. Oh wait, right, you have NO rail industry today

  • @thetrainguy125

That does not look American mate I can assure you of that.

  • no, not only have i seen them on twitpic but i dont do demands,

    twat

  • why are you calling me a twat? what have i dont to you? i was only suggesting. and i see you filmed this video. not

  • I never said i filmed it, i see you took those photos...

capital letters is demanding, if you was asking then "why not have a look" please have a look.. would have been fine, dont know who marked your comment as spam but it looked like it!

ok sorry about the twat thing :)

i never made this but ive been told there is some writing at Acton bridge it says

"HSThoward loves HSThoward by HSThoward" again I never wrote it and i have never stepped foot in acton bridge just letting you know

  • right. who told you about the AB thing?

  • Urrrrghh!!! Ugly bastard this one, and I thought the 66 was bad and no clag either. Bring back the 56 :)

  • here here

  • God its UGLY!

  • more american shite clogging britains railway give me a 37,47,56,58 and 60 anyday they all look and sound better, british machines always look better

  • awesome vid. shame about the look of the unit. it looks awful. sounds awesome though, much better than the squeakiness of a 66/67! 5* and faved

  • ahh well it's a freight. There supposed to pull shit out of cargo rather than look good :P I can't wait to see it back here in the UK =)

  • i do agree with you. the 66s dont look great but they do pull one heck of a load! and these are better i presume?

  • i'd guess so, it'd be a bit pointless if they weren't

plus it's American and in North America the only way to make something go fast (or even work) is put a massive engine in it, which doesn't work just makes them powerful. :)

  • Awesome video 5*****

  • holy moses! how did i miss this video for a week!

excellant mate. so far sounds good to me anyways!

  • looks, well strange but sounds bloody hellfire

  • Sounds beastly! listen to a tractor or a bomb at full rakett thats BEASTLY. Sounds like a lorry!

Another hope dashed, why dont engine manufacturers make somthing loud and angry with loads of bollox and smoke and stick their twos up to the gaylord enviromentallists rrrrrr

  • I have done when right behind he locos too and i know they are beasty but out of all the GE locos this is the beastyest is what I meant.

I wish they made something with bollocks too!

  • We can all live and hope, at least it looks pretty grumpy.

  • What's the idea with exterior walkways? Isn't that wasted space? Could they not fit a bigger engine on it? Having said that, I read in Rail magazine that it has 3,686hp.

  • So the Class 70 "Vader" rolls out.. Wonder is the paint will make it any better....

  • It makes a great sound but it looks revulting

  • Great video mate. Sounds beastly, but I still thi8nk it looks ugly lol - +Fav.

  • AAAA. 082020Z AUG 2009 Thank you for posting the video....Are we having these monsters over here ?.......AR.

  • Bloody hell, Acton Bridge will never be the same again...

  • Reminds me of a Class 58...and a bucket of puke - all mashed up and glued together!!!

  • That thing looks so horrid! But the engine sounds like a cross between a VP185 and a Class 60 lol quite beastly!

  • sounds like a proper deisel , looks like an Ugly, ( you decide!)

  • god it looks awful!

  • I like it. Could solve the problems the UKs had for the last 5 years or so when it comes to very heavy freight workings. Sheds are bit shaky, and struggle, to be fair, on pulling away with some freight. This sounds like an old Diesel-hydraulic or something, maybe a Class 52 lol!! Would be good to have a new loco with some character sound back in the UK again. We havent seen that since the Class 60's.

  • sounds good, looks shit!

  • Sounding good!

  • sounds good looks crap

  • i dont like it at all id rather have a 37 clagging away.

  • Sounds very familiar... almost like Polish SU45 =D

  • I agree, it does look just TOO different. But when given a familiar livery I guess it will look more recognisable. Nice s

    ound!

  • Looks brilliant to me!!..something different!! =D

  • Sounds good but looks horrible lol, also it looks like a boat lol haha!

  • dont mess with the boat lol

  • lol, look at it, it's horrible, HAHA

  • will look better when Freightliner-ed up :D

  • just have to wait and see ;)
