I think game music has just got too movie-like now, while some may think this is a good thing i feel it's a bad thing because it makes for a real lack of memorable tunes. it's a real shame too because sound quality has greatly improved since then but unfortunately the music has not

@HereComesGarfield It depends. If you take a game like Super Mario Galaxy, you get very orchestral music, and I have to say, if there's one FPS game with memorable music for me, it's Medal of honor - the rising sun. The tune in the main screen there is stuck in my head forever.

I like Doom a lot better than a lot of modern FPS games who for all their boasting about better graphics don't make use of much of a color palette or anything so they may as well have not bothered. The stories are often weak, in some cases in spite of (or perhaps because of) being complex, the action bland, and the demand from whiny "experts" for realism has often gotten in the way of fun. Also, crummy music. Although, granted, some can be more fun than the FIRST Doom, due to having jumping.

Wow. I remember playing this game in 1994 (it came out in December 1993). Back then parents across the U.S. thought it was an extremely VIOLENT game. Hahaha, if you compare it to what's out there now like Call of Duty and Battlefield.. Doom wasn't too violent. I loved this game. The later DOOM games were exceptional.
