This is a power struggle between rich and poor classes. MR comes from south of Sri Lanka, Hambanthota, the most neglected discrict for decades. People are very poor. The rich upper class in Colombo is jealous of Mahinda Rajapakse achievements. MR has developed a lot of rural neglected parts of the island and he is therefore very popular among poor sinhalese.
