this damn thing is over weight by atleast 500kg. If our scientists can shave down those weight, it would surely make a great plane in its class. Interesting factor here is how they are going to reduce those excess weight.

Till date two prototypes are built, the 1st prototype being overweight by 900kg, and 2nd prototype shaved down 400kg with the help of composites, and 3rd prototype was about to reduce the rest of 500kg. But during Aero india 2009 the 2nd Prototype crashed killing 4 test pilots. Now work is in progress to convert the 1st prototype to prototype 3 by using advanced electronics and high degree of composites in its airframe plus more powerful engine. we can only sit back and wait :)

It's called the "Saras" (crane) - an 18 seater commercial aircraft designed and built in India. Two prototypes are being tested currently and it is expected to go into production as a light transport feederliner.
