@reapfreak Correlation, not causation. "Financial success" is also totally subjective. There is no scientific measure of it. One man's idea of wealth is another man's idea of destitute poverty.
i saw the clips of adam interviewing artie lange (not becuz of adam) but because of artie lol
artie was great and an amazing story teller but every time adam interrupted with a lame tool analogy or some stupid joke that just wasnt clever, he would literally grind HIS OWN show to a screeching halt lol
To quote Neil Gaiman's "Sandman": "She said we all not only could know everything. We do. We just tell ourselves we don't to make it all bearable....I said, if they do that, why do they keep wandering around and falling down manholes and tripping on banana skins? Why does it seem like none of us -- Endless or mortal, ghost of god -- knows what we're doing...She said everyone knows everything. We just pretend to ourselves we don't. I never knew what to make of that."
Holy shit, I agree with every single thing he's saying, about "personal momentum", and how the highest intelligence is more of an obstacle to "bravado" and making money, and vice-versa... Except for the conclusion though, I hold intelligence in high regard and wouldn't wish for my child to be dumb, even "a little". I think that's a terrible mindset to spread.
Charisma and energy are often mistaken for intelligence. This is why so many politicians get in office. They don't have to be smart. They just have to convince the public they are.
@newcoyote You just described 90% of all the people in all the leadership roles in the entire world. Everyone from the Mcdonald's shift manager all the way to the CEO's of the largest corporations in the world.
That's what the whole " Garden of Eden " thing was about Once Adam& Eve, munched from the tree of Knowledge......"BOOM" Party is over. Eye's wide shut , had it made and never knew it until it was over Ignorance is of a particular nature, because once dispelled it is impossible to reestabilish it
Ya I know what you mean. I'm way smarter than everyone. Probably the wisest man you'll ever meet, but I live in my parents basement. When will people realize how great I am?
Many if not most people who are smart have a completely different idea of success than those who are not. You almost have to be stupid for monetary success because there are things far more interesting smart people would rather spend their time doing. If you are smart and lucky enough to find a profession you actually enjoy which doesn't dull your intellectuality and challenges you in the way you need to be challenged, than consider yourself one of the very lucky few.
Yeah...agreed agreed agreed. Though cliche, "ignorance is bliss" is still so true. What's that lyric from that Gnarls Barkley song? "But it wasn't because I didn't know enough; I just knew too much"
The problem is not intelligence but lack of sense of direction and too much spare time on your hands. If you're having too much spare time you run the risk of getting yourself down, simply because there is always something that can get you there if you don't direct your thoughts in a productive direction.
Just read a few comments here on YouTube - most of those reasonably smart guys who write comment after comment, simply lack direction in their lives or they wouldn't waste it that way.
i suffer from too much awareness and intelligence as well, dead on adam. however i'd rather be smart and in my position currently than a well adjusted societal dumbass.
Of course smart people are not happy when they see douchebags like Adam Corolla making money by just being a grown ass man who acts like a frat kid. If smart people ruled the world the dumb people would be put where they belong.
@DarkLordCallMeDickC It is possible to be intelligent while still having absurd beliefs. Isaac Newton is one of the most intelligent people that ever lived and he was an alchemist and spiritualist. Joseph Priestley, who discovered oxygen, was a Unitarian.
The fact that Adam supports abhorrent practices like torture doesn't mean he is "a total dbag" and being a dbag in the first place doesn't mean you are unintelligent. Chris Langan is a giant douche but has one of the highest IQs in the world.
I agree. I'm very surprised that Adam's TV shows didn't last. He's hilarious, brilliant, and has a lot of energy. And you're right, he does need to be heard because he's one of the few people in the public eye that actually has the balls to speak his mind.
Listen, there are things that are pleasant to think about, and things that are not. You choosing not think about those things that are unpleasant may be a smart decision, but it will leave you with a limited and less accurate understanding of reality. Besides that, you're doubly stupid if you think it isn't lonely on the outskirts of the bell curve. Where people literally do not have the ability to comprehend what you are thinking. "Properly Intelligent?" Go fuck yourself.
There was an episode of Radio Lab that dealt with this. College surveys and research found that the self aware and contemplative were categorically more depressed than the blissfully ignorant. It showed a point where people can overthink things and be too withdrawn, while people who lie to themselves and say "I'm the best" would perform better at sports and have less depression. They linked awareness with feeling shitty.
smart people that think about things too much become depressed. thinking too much isn't necessarily a sign of intelligence though. it's more of a neurosis. i think intelligent people that are able to not ruminate but instead exist in the moment while at the same time keeping the future in check are the true geniuses.
I'm trying to go more from the former to the latter, but it's a tough racket.

How does one think about something "too much"? Truth is truth, logic is logic. It's impossible to "over think" things like some people have said. It's not like overcooking some food. The more you think about it, the more information you process, that's all there is to it.
And too much? Based on what value system? Do you value objective reality or do you only value what makes you happy for five minutes?
Adam is right. Rich people don't think about the consequences of their actions, just the results they get. If you're a stockbroker, you might be ripping people off hourly with your cold-call sales, and making tons of money hocking stocks that are tanking and destroying these people's lives, but hey, that's not your job and you don't know anything but selling. Selective ignorance is key in this society to smile as you kill your prey.
they replace reason, evidence, logic and science with faith and imagination. they start wars and treat other ppl horribly because they think thats what their god commands. they cut ppl's heads of while screaming "allha akbar" which pretty much means "god is great" the whole time rational ppl are shaking their heads cuz theyknow that god isnt real and that guy murdered someone for no reason at all other then his irrationality. its bronze age bullshit and ppl still worship for some reason
Maybe, though I tend to think if something occurs in nature then it occurs for a reason. If people believe in a god or gods then their brains must be that way for some natural reason. Plus, I suppose it isn't all bad, what they do. Some religious people do a lot of good to balance it out.
i think humans wouls do good regardless...just like we would behave badly regardless. religion gives ppl a reason to be maniac. not ony does it give them a motive but other religious pl support it. religion does far more harm then good. ppl need to out grow it and be good for goodness sake.
Perhaps, perhaps not. Unfortunately, nobody can really say for sure one way or the other because it all becomes hypotheticals and endless debate. What I can be sure of is that being upset about it is wasted emotion because it won't be changing in yours or my lifetime. That I am sure of. That was actually my real point too: why let it bother you and make you upset? I wish I was living in an age where I could visit other planets but sadly I was born to early. It is what it is.
i would love to just not be bothered by what i c and hear, but it doesnt work like that. ppl have a a desire to make the world better or at least what they consider better. go on google and tye in truthtube then type in beheadings i now its rediculously grosse and ur probably thinking "who the hell would want to watch that crap?", but to be honest i am curious of the world and of other ppl within it. when i see a 12 year old buy cutting off a mans head while yelling "allah akbar!" i tend to care
Fair enough, there is some pretty terrible evil out there. Some truly horrible people. That said, if I were you, I'd be more angry about the condition of the reigon than the religion. True, the religion doesn't help but something I have noticed is that the more desperate and horrible a part of the world is, the more violent and terrible people treat eachother there. I try to give to charity where I can. This is an issue I think can actually be fixed and maybe fixed in our lifetime. Hopefully.
