What is that screen next to the Amp?. I have a bassman 100, but want some thing less loud for the house, I want fender cleans, but am considering a DR Z amp, because they are the only amp apart from fender that sound awesome clean to my ears, vox do not do it for me, the DR Z amps seem to have it just right, great cleans and great overdrive, jack black is on youtube demo a DR Z amp, I think DR Z is the only amp apart from fender I would consider, they are all PTP wiring arnt they ?
can you gig with this .. I mean isn't 18 watt just low... I love the idea of the SRV natural breaking tone at human volumes but Can you gig with this amp play in yards and small stadiums and be heard?
Dr Z Maz 18 vs Mesa Boogie Lonestar Special? I'm thinking of getting rid of my Mesa Lonestar Special and picking up a dr. z maz 18. But I kind of like the Santana tones I can get out of my Mesa, but I am mostly a blues srv kind of player. I wonder which amp takes pedals better also.
@mscarney302 I've never played a Bad Cat so I cannot comment on which I would rather buy. I love my Z because it's so versitile right out of the box and it absolutely adores pedals. You probably couldn't go wrong with either! I bet you could save some money on a used Dr. Z though. I've seen plenty of really nice Z's for less than a grand!
No problem bro, just check out my other vids. I do another demo with two essential humbucking guitars...a PRS CE-22 and Gibson Les Paul! I love the amp with humbuckers too, but it really seems to love single coils. My PRS has coil taps on the humbuckers so it gets the best of both worlds and allows me to get a lot of different tones with just the guitar/amp. Enjoy!
Yes to me, the amp is worth the price. I actually got it on a trade for a couple amps that I never used. If you really dig the Maz but aren't crazy about the price or they are hard to find, try out the VOX AC15HW combo. That amp is amazing sounding, especially with single coil guitars and a compressor. I highly recommend the handwired VOX amps!
Sorry for the brightness, that particular Strat is a very bright guitar but lively...I typically don't like bright guitars. It has a wonderful '50s tone that I love so I keep her around. I may have had the "cut" control a bit high as well but I wanted to show how well the amp cleans up. If you set it up too warm it sounds muddy when you roll off the volume on the guitar. Also with the amp blaring you are getting more high end blast into the camera mic.
Also, in regards to the plexi panels (my most common questions strangely) people wonder what the heck are they for. Well not only do they cut the volume down dramatically without attenuation, but also "round" the tone and tame the highs like a weber beam blocker would. The low end tightens up, and the amp just sounds fuller. No icepicky brain piercing highs or boomy lows...just a very even sound. Also makes it great for micing inside the baffle...it's own little sonic environment!
I hope that is a good thing lol? That "WTF" lick at 3:23 is a faster, open pull-off thing that I stumbled apon one day. A lot of open strings are used and the lick begins on the 5th fret on the high E string. Open high E string, then 5th fret, open E again, then 4th, open E then 3rd, then repeat that same pattern on the B string open then 5th, open then 4th, open then 3rd...then I just run down the E minor scale quickly with some pulloffs and hammer ons....hope that helps.
Man O Man, I can't imagine having those POWERFUL AMPS in an apartment. My neighbors would of called the cops after striking one note. U need a MICRO CUBE
Yes I'm on the second floor of an apartment. I typically sit it on top of a Auralex Great Gramma to keep the low end from pissing the downstairs neighbors off and the plexiglass baffle really cuts down on the overall volume. It also disperses the sound more evenly throughout the room, which I really like. I baffle every amp that I play.
It's a Celestion G12H 30w Anniversary model. I hear that the 2x10's are killer as well. You would have to play both and decide which you prefer. I like the 1x12 better myself and believe me, it sounds HUGE and has plenty of low end thump. It's rediculously loud for it's size as well. Good luck on getting your Z, you will love it!
in my experience the Dr. Z 2x10s lack low end, I'd go for a similar setup this guy has, with the G12H30... probably the best speaker for a 1x12 combo. Also, it's just my opinion that the 12s sound better overdriven, more balls.
Yes it is a very LOUD amplifier. It absolutely kills a Deluxe Reverb (22 watts) and gives a JTM45 a run for it's money volume wise. The baffle helps a lot with the volume, and also smooths the sound out a little bit too. My father and I constructed the baffle for about $100, the amp was aquired by trading a Laney head and Fender Twin Reverb RI. Though sometimes I miss my Twin, this amp just KILLS. Thanks for watching!
Lol, the plexiglass baffle is to tame the volume without having to use an attenuator. It was still LOUD. God, the Maz is the LOUDEST 18 watter on the planet... I think it also warms the sound up and just makes everything sound better. You don't get blasted in the ears with speaker cone treble! They are easy to make, feel free to PM me if you are interested in building one. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Geko! There were definately some clams in there though I had only been awake 15min. before recording...Box of Lemons? Is that a new boutique company :D

It sounds SO good for an amp hidden behind a plexi panel, it's incredible...
Maybe a little bit on the bright side for my taste, but a very good sound, now I'm curious to try one :)
Nice demo, bravo!

Those '57 RI strats are awesome! I have one made in 1994 and it's a black one. I would really love a 2-tone sunburst one though...

You have to put up sound protective glass around it? That thing must be LOUD. This is a sweet amp. How much was it, and how much was the glass haha?
