@ThaFunkster100, Yes, I did hear that story about the pilot who actually shot himself down. I loved Yeager's book. I read it when it came out in 1985 and have read it several times since. Great book, great stories. He's quite possibly the greatest pilot who ever lived.
@TIMOTHYSAARINEN Although I agree with your assesment on Yeager's book being interesting, he's a bit of a narcissist. I found Neil Armstongs biography, "FIRST MAN" vastly more interesting. Yeager tends to tell a glossy story for his benefit. The fact of the matter is, his shenanigans in the rocket F-104 killed a program that other pilots and engineers were working. Since the "most valuable pilot" in the air force almost got killed, they killed the program, Much to the chagrin of the real pilots.
