I gotta agree....the drums are a bit much but I think the low quality of the video contributes and it may have been different in the moment vs watching after the fact
@jazzmac03 I will try not to take too much exception to the "low quality" video comment. Sorry...wasn't shooting in HD back then. And that had nothing to do with the song arrangement.
@jazzmac03 I think its the video quality and the drummer might be contracted to play because the original live version from the 9:30 club sounds like this which is wayyyyy better than it sounds here. No disrespect to the guy who shot this ;)
I swear some ppl just dont know what the fuck they b talkin bout, the drummer is fuckin killin this shit and the vocals was right there as well...fly version
people have we forgotten that Stokley was the original drummer of MC. everything you see on stage is rehearsed for months on end everyday its not a spur of the moment thing.
People, People, People! Do you think that he just 'DECIDED' to play that way? I saw Montel Jordan 2 wks. ago and he said ,"I know you want to hear it - just 1 time but I HAVE to sing it E V E R Y Single Night, FOREVER!" -referring to "This is how we do it"
This is what happens when music is made by machines(keyboards). Learn to appreciate musicianship!(remember Drum Line?) Musicians PLAY and it's their song...if you want to hear the record - turn on the RADIO!
Like myself as a musician, I could play every lick during a tune to impress other musicians, but I'd go with "less is more". Just play the pocket! It's fine to change the tune a bit but don't kill the groove! Most of the ladies just want to be crooned.
I'm not opposed to his energy or his brilliance. I'm opposed to what is a terrible terrible idea. No matter how talented and brilliant the song and the performers are, it's really a bad idea. It would be different, and totally appropriate for the drummer, the slick harmony, and creative rhythms, to be highlighted in a channel or break section - that would be awesome in fact - but just like physics, there is science to the sound. And this is very tense without resolution. Terrible.
drums suck on this track - ruins it for me - stick the original - that's what made it a classic - what's with this jungle drum and bass remix with the drummer going mental ?
The artist HAS to have leeway to switch things up a bit in the live performances. Otherwise, we'd be bored to tears at our shows. But not everything is for everybody.
that's a fair point - and i agree - but in this instance - the way they changed it ruins the whole atmosphere of the original song - remember - people are watching you because they like the original songs. so change it up to keep it interesting - but don't completely overhaul the tune so that it sounds nothing like the original - it does a disservice to the fans. i mean - a drum and bass beat on this song ?? come on man.
Yes! Yes! I too have experienced mc's performance!!!I got to meet all of them i hug stokely, Jeffery, and odel. best of Jeffery is a pure 100% sweetie pie. They really made me feel comfortable. They probably will know mw as towel girl.

The drums through it off. Nothing better than the original. The drummer really wanted to be noticed, lol.

To each his/her own, I suppose. Interesting that so many of you are opposed to the energy of this live drums in this version.
