Inexperience got him . He should have been closer to the curb side to begin with. No need to ride the center line in the mountains, especially when not in a group.. Give yourself some room to work with.
i think he got scarred of the scraping of the pipes in the curb, the bike doesn't have a lot of clearance with two peap on it. The driver raised the bike up and got scarred again when he entered the other lane.
Panic braking, and a sore bum and cranked ego is the result. Could have ended far worse !
Doesnt appear to me like this guy should be riding a motor sickle! I would of been on the ground laughing at him and then after i recovered from that I would of started mocking him.
How could anyone say he is a good rider and "he saved the bike" Really.. How about he should have never even gotten into that situation to begin with.... Thats pure inexperience right there.. He saw the turn, panicked and thought he was going to fast so he locked the brakes...simple... He should get a sportster and ride ALONE without a passenger before putting himself, his passenger and everyone riding with him in danger again..
@baumboards The only reason it didn't drop is because it was his GF's bike and it had HUGE crashbars sticking out of each side that both bounced off the ground, That's why it spun around in a 180. No skill, luck. He locked up the rear brake TWICE in the same turn instead of leaning. Too used to riding Harleys in a straight line.
i dont care what people say about this guy. if he can save a crash (and that looked pretty hopeless at one point), then he is a bad ass mother fucker in my eyes.
@vmaxoutlaw okay okay. maybe he isnt quite the badass, but still, he avoided a potentially bad situation and kept his bike on the road instead of in the ditch or split apart by a tree. of course, lucky for him, he didnt have oncoming traffic.
this should be an eaasssyy turn to take. just don't put too much speed in it, especially with a passenger and a large bike. Otherwise, no problem. have fun!
Rounding the curve, he visually spotted too late some riders that he might have wanted to stop by. Overbraking of the rear wheel, the guy should have kept rolling past them, braked more conservatively, then circled back to the group on the margin.
Baggers (sigh). Someone explain to me why these jokers buy a bike that weighs as much as a Smart Car and has the 0-60 time of a '72 Ford Pinto hatchback.
I think everybody here has missed the root cause. His old lady gave him last second directions that this is where she wants to stop. Come on now, every guy has been in that situation. He just needs to learn the phrase "oops, too late"
@mtrblkd Fuck the old lady, she's just along for the ride and should keep her mouth shut, unless she swallows, or is he that pussy whipped, she dictates where to go. I don't pack bitches anymore, always a bummer ride!
When I was 18 I got my first motorcycle 72 shovelhead and my license. The first thing I did was road trip Cali to Fl, by myself. I met this guy on the way who said he been riding for years. SO we rode together for a while And locked up like this with his geezerglide (Full dresser) Luckily I got around him. He was ok but had a few bits of chrome to replace
While I am goad you didn't go down, you really need a refresher course in bike handling. You could have handled that curve riding two up on your cruiser. You had more ground clearance to handle the decreasing radius curve.
Consider the Total Control Advanced Training Clinic offered by Lee Parks.
LOL The right lever on the metal bar thingy you hold onto while you are riding stops you better then the little foot pedal doo hickey on your rightside.
Thought I would explain it in retard terms so he could understand what happened!
lol only reason why he didn't highside is because those decked out Harleys weigh in at close to half a ton...hey, I guess we've found something Harleys are good for finally!
I'm currently thinking of buying my first motorcyle but this video has really put me off......did this guy do something really stupid or is it on of thsoe things which is just product of bad luck?
@SwitchRich This dude was most likley looking at the people on the side of the road and did not analize the curve ahead of him...... when he finaly saw the curve his SR (survival response ) kicked in and he slammed on the brake....... Now you're thinking what is SR you will know when you get scared and all of your instincts are telling you to brake, turn the handle bars, jump of the bike etc. you just do the opposite and ride it out....
@SwitchRich This from a 31 year rider: He locked up his rear tire by trying to use his rear brake too hard while he was leaned over in a turn. It was probably caused by a sudden realization that he wanted to stop and join that group on the side of the road. Go to your local bookstore and order a copy of "Proficient Motorcycling" by David Hough. It's the best book out there on how not to die on two wheels. Also, start riding in dirt, on a used dirtbike. Then go to streetbikes. Good luck!
@riderpoet I started on a manual ATV then moved to Dirtbike Then I turned 18 and got my motorcycle licence. I took the course. That is a must. Then I picked up a Kawasaki Vulcan 550 and practiced around my driveway. Making short trips up and down the road. Then I moved to a Yamaha 650 Bobber then to a 805 merauder then to a Yamaha yzf1000 Superbike that I HATED. Now I have a Suzuki Boulivard. This is how everyone should learn. Drive safe use your head.
@zjbeast Yeah... I don't think I'll be riding any cruisers any time soon. My dad's 47 and has had a total of 2 cruisers, a Victory Vegas and a Royal Star Venture. Vegas was sold 4 months later (It sucked as far as handling goes) and the Venture is just because my stepmom wanted a Goldwing but my dad found a good deal on the Venture...
But he's had countless other bikes, a couple Connies, a couple V-Stroms, a Super Hawk, an ST 1300... the list goes on. Some people just don't like cruisers.
listen pal, I have a strong bike but every once in a while, I look at these videos and other motorcycle crash video to remind myself to be smart and careful
@SwitchRich He did something stupid. He was trying to take the turn way to fast for that bike, then he got scared and locked up the brakes. he was acting like a fool and paid the price.
@SwitchRich Nothing to do with bad luck. Nothing wrong with the road either. This rider doesn't know how to ride safely. A cardinal rule of riding is NEVER EVER apply the rear brake aggressively. In a straight line (which this isn't) the front brake can be applied heavily, especially with a cruiser which is very unlikely to do a stoppie. In a turn this tight, if you can't straighten the bike first, GENTLE application of both brakes is the only way.
@SwitchRich I hope you weren't put off motorcycles by this idiot's lack of common sense. If you're interested in learning to ride, find the nearest Motorcycle Safety Foundation Rider Training Course and you'll soon see how many errors this rider made.
On analyzing the film further I am apt to believe he had a brake problem. It appears his brakes just locked up and would not release. The brakes lock all the way until the bike stops, that makes no sense at all unless the guy just got his permit to ride yesterday.
Good recovery, I agree. If you look at 0:06 at his foot, he downshifts while still at a decent rpm in 2nd gear. Definitely lucky they didn't highside.
If he felt it lock up in 2nd then why didnt he just disengage the clutch?? Looks like he locked up his rear brakes but dont know why since he wasnt going that fast.
there was a chipmunk bout to jump out , seen it 100 times, little basterds think its funny or the clown was worried about hitten the bend doin 20mph on that pig
I ride a cruiser. I guess some people forget to give yourself plenty of time to brake. Maybe he felt ashamed about missing his friends on the side and was trying to stop.

The freedom to carry a passenger you don't have the skills to exercise your responsibility towards? I've got some wonderful roads near me in Wales, & I can direct you to some epic roads in Scotland or Yorkshire & the Peak District.
Oh, and if you (or the dude you get on the back with) are *that* incompetent, you'd think that you might actually want to wear some half decent gear. If not full race leathers and motocross armour...
I'm sure that if he'd screwed up like that at 60mph, the half shell helmets, jeans, hush puppies and the cotton hoodies would have kept them plenty safe. The passenger clearly hates her fingers, as well.
he's lucky he didn't highside. i'm still trying to understand how that happened -- given the conditions, he must have hit the rear break pretty hard to lock it up.
Was even better in person... i heard his experienced riding skills are what kept the bike on two wheels, or wait was it the size of crash protection bars on the bike that turned it into a gyroscope?? hmmmm... I was going to stop to assist but thought this was his normal parking methodology and he just wanted to change jackets.
Classic mistake X2 (locking rear brake up more than once). Some folks just shouldn't be allowed to have passengers on their bikes. Could have been a terrible mistake if oncoming traffic. I hope for gods sake that passenger NEVER rides with that guy again.
