I learned absolutely nothing from this movie. Just watch youtube videos of rockabilly bassists for 5 min. and you'll learn way more than this movie. Also, his left hand technique and intonation is pretty bad for a guy that's been playing bass this long.
I have played orchestra bass for almost four years and im just learning how to to play rockabilly haha.. I'm even getting a rockabilly bass for at home. i'm so happy.. he needs a pomp haha.

Well, to be honest, I'm glad I switched to bass three years ago. Sure I play electric, but those large frets and refrain from having to play chord shapes has been a good thing for me. I still play guitar, as I'm trying to pick up sweep picking now since I've been out of the guitar scene a bit. It hurts my hands a bit. So thankfully, bass, at least for me, is perfect. I should mention I have large hands and am a "bigger" guy too. And yes, I've "tried" jumbo frets on a guitar. : )

well, I took piano lessons for eleven yeas, and never learned how to read music, and then I picked up a bass guitar and taught myself within a year; so there is definitely something to be said about self-teaching.

Theyre music is simplistic to the extreme and their vocals were horrible live and so-so in the studio.

well, I took piano lessons for eleven yeas, and never learned how to read music, and then I picked up a bass guitar and taught myself within a year; so there is definitely something to be said about self-teaching.

you learned nothing because you made no effort to learn. I bet your teacher fucking hated you. And what can you do on a bass guitar progressions? do you even know what a progression is? If you still cant read music you have taught yourself nothing (besides memorization).

I learned quite a lot on piano actually. I used to get around reading the music by listening to recordings of all the music and playing what I heard.
My teacher actually didn't find out about my inability to read until she tried to get me to play some of her own work.
I decided to teach myself Bass because I was beginning to get bored with Piano.

Thank you. As for self teaching- that's cool, if you only want to play one kind of music forever. Music school, for bass, in my case is teaching me jazz (my major), classical, as well as funk and other styles. And yes, very proficient too.

GnerSpree, before electronical guitars were invented, who wanted to play bass bought an instrument like this and learnt to play on it...and now there still are some ppl that like these istruments and they don't play bass guitars... so I just think that you don't appreciate classical istruments.

Lee rocker is one of the kindest gentlemen in the rockin' biz...when he came to peterborough england he rocked the roof off the building...after the show he spoke to us ..let us mess about with his bass,and gave us some exellent tips...so for those mockin' him..just remember you wouldn't be into r-a-b music if it wasn't for the stray cats...he's the master!...you say s**t lesson....get a life!
