i don't think its illegal to fish it here in Malaysia. Arapaima is considered as a jackpot sport fish as it is one of the rarest fish caught here. Furthermore, this predator fish once considered as among the dangerous freshwater species which can imbalance the local fish's ecosystem throughout Malaysia.
