  • On this date in 1956 {Feb. 25th} "Lisbon Antigua" became #1 {for 4 weeks} on Billboard's Best Sellers chart and spent 29 weeks in the Top 100...

    Ranked 3rd on Billboard's Year-End Top 30 Singles of 1956 chart {If it wasn't for Elvis it would have been the #1 Record of the Year; for "Heartbreak Hotel" was #1 followed by "Don't Be Cruel" at #2}

    Featured in the movie "Lisbon"...

Mitch Miller also charted with his version in1956; it reached #19...

  • thank you for this post - I remember this on the radio as a kid - no harm in drifting back into the past for a while...

  • Not Nelson Riddle but Billy May on Time Life's As You Remember Them.

  • The song(s) this one particularly Lisbon Antigua put me square back in time 1954/55. Sent this to a friend not feeling well and he was lifted by the song(s) and that bike. His comment was this was his Schwinn bike back then. Thanks for the pic and the song. Wonderful.

  • No solo acompano a los mejores cantantes, Nelson Riddle tuvo grandes exitos por si mismo con su gran orquesta

  • Came here becuz it was #1 on the day my mom and dad were born lol and it's a nice little instrumental

  • is that a schwinn phantom?

  • Questo fado fu interpretato nel film USA " Lisbon 1955 "

  • I thought this song was banned here on YouTube.I guess not.Great to hear this song.It doesn t sound like the original version tho

  • as far as I know this bike pic wasnt cover of any LP by Nelson Riddle, pick looks newer than 1950s, dont see an connection between the song and a bike

  • sorry I didnt give complete info on the chart info it was Dec 31 1955 when it entered the chart and the rest of the 21 week run was in 1956

  • @calibamaguy Don't worry about it and thank you for the rest of the info.

  • @calibamaguy why is there a pic of a bike? Is this an reproduction of an album cover for Nelson Riddle?

  • @calibamaguy

Thanks for posting this song! I was in the 3rd grade when I used to hum along with the radio. It was and still is one of my 'all time favorites."

  • Lison antigua entered the billboard best seller chart (Top 25 chart) at number 21 on December 31 (issue date) on is 9th week on chart it hit number one replacing Rock and Roll waltz by Kay Starr, it stayed number one for four weeks being replaced by Poor People of Paris by Lex Baxter. It stayed 22 weeks on the Billboard best seller charts -

  • @calibamaguy Thank you for the stats on this song. To me, this song deserved to be on the Billboard best seller charts for those 22 weeks.

  • @Brooklynskipper87 dear brooklyn dodger: dont feel too sorry for lisbon. it was like the #4 greatest instrumental hit of all time in the rock and roll era meaning 1955 thru about 1974 or so. not too bad company being up there with theme from a summer place and cherry pink and apple blossom and tequila, u know???ck it out under billboard.

  • This tune is very special to me. I can remember playing as a child on my living room floor and hearing this tune come on the radio. The piano part made me think of those music boxes with the dancing ballerinas! I believe it came out in 1954.

  • @Tigerroux I'm glad to hear that you really appreciate this song and it makes you think of your childhood.

I'm 23, but when I was a kid, I listened to all of these songs on these Time Life sets and I love all of them.

And I do believe this song came out in 1954.

  • Bella performance!!!!

  • @madeira63 Edgar, I agree 100% with you.
