What made europe great back in the middle ages was the lack of centralized political power structures. The muslims and the chinese were far ahead of europe in science and literature... but they failed to create wealth. Europe did that, despite being backward because people, cities and nations could figure out what creates wealth without intervention from far away rulers. Most failed. But the english found the magic formula in the 1800's. That would never have happened if europe was an empire

You dont even know that they have translators for every person in the parliament and that each person chooses to speak in whichever language they like, nobody is forced to speak english and if they did'nt it would get translated anyway.. Funny, there are 27 countries in the EU but only one of them speaks English, I don't see how a 1/27 is motive not to learn or be able to speak any other language. This isn't North America, then you could say out of 3 countries, 2 speak english, 1 french and 1 spanish. I think british people are just freaking lazy when it comes to learning and accepting other cultures, including learning languages, or maybe they are too thick to learn.

@FrancoLLB Whilst I am no supporter of Farage, your assertion that he only speaks English; and by inference that the British as a whole, conform to the Stereotype of being mono-glottal, seems to avoid the fact that he is "telling off" various Countries. As opposed to "telling off", he may simply be asserting concerns on specific issues that he feels compelled to voice. I have replied in English as you do not state your nationality. I am a simple Scot, who can only write in 12 languages. :-)
