Hi! I have a movie in avi and i want that movie as background.
I render 3d animation in 3ds max like you did in Tutorial P2 (png and alpha channel). Then i open After Effect add movie and animation to library. Then i drag&put movie and after that i put 3d animation above movie. But there is still white background with my model.
@Gobas22 sounds as if you did not output the render with alpha background, double check that.
You'll need to interprete your footage and set it to automate the background color for avoiding matting issues.
If all that does not help, render 2 versions of your video: first one with normal colors, second one with white background and every object with a white material that has self illumination to 100%, than you can set the second clip as a luma matte.
I do every thing you sad in comment. Click right on movie, interprete footage-> main, set 25 fps and the problem is that i can't click to change alpha in movie it's grey. I can only change alpha for png but that don't solve the problem. Can you help me ? I used matchmover pro 4 for camera sole, and 3ds max 2008 to do and render animation.
theres a better way to do this instead of keying, and matching the frame rate of the orignial video and ect. u can do it in 3ds max, just go to render>environment>click on "none" then click bitmap, then choose the file of the orginal video. that works betta
With compositing in 3ds max I'd be very careful. You have no freedom changing any parameters such as brightness change or grain/noise or scraches on the 3D object.
i have a problem, when i put the data on after effects mi video is already at 30 fps and that doesnt correct the tracking... pls help because in boujou the tracking is perfects, also in 3ds max...
@svendburger "i have cinema 4d ? .. any help here ?"
This is my problem too. i test the export to *.lws but the imported Camera is very bad in C4d :( But in 3ds its working good, but i much better in c3d then 3ds and this sucks.
hey, i use sony vegas for it but i have got a problem O_O the background is white in all pictures and in sony vegas i can't set the background as the video :(
If I were you at 0:48, probably would have killed myself for that crap not working properly. Good thing there are guys like you who know what to do then. (:
Thank you! It's really simple to understand and it's very detailed for improving the quality of "tracking"! Great tutorials! Sorry for my english, I'm French.........
Hi! Thanks so much for this wonderful tutorial! It helps me alot.. I have one problem though.. My teapot seems to have a hole around the lid and the spout that makes it transparent in those spots.. every teapot I make has the same see through spots and I dont know how to fix it. Can you offer any suggestion on this?
That's 3ds max bug if you can call this so. I think it's because of the normals set up in a wrong way. there is no chance to fix it in 1 teapot, but try to create multiple teapots and than just create the different elements of an teapot. than you can group that result (after replacing till it fits).
These three videos on matchmoving are EXCELLENT! Thank you so much for taking the time to create and post these - This is a fantastic introduction of the process and watching the workflow from start to finish provided valuable insight.
i commented on the last video but i thought it would be appropriate to ask it under this video. when i add teapot over my sequence the white dose not go away? blending mode?
No. If you just put the teapot above the rest, everything is ok. What you have to do (as explained) is just rightclick on your video in the filepanel and choos "interprete footage->main". Than Set the correct framerate and go to the alphapanel (first panel) and check the last box. Now set the color as the color you exported as background from 3ds max, in this case white. This is the easiest method.
Before i saw your videos i could get my video tracked in syntheyes or how after effects was used. It took me a while to find your videos because of the low views but your video was actually the only one that showed how to take the data from boujou or syntheyes and put it in a 3d editing program.
Thank you so much for all 3 parts of your tutorial, they really helped me a LOT in figuring out how everything works. You have no idea how much your videos cleared things up for me! Thank you.
Very nice tutorial!

is it possible to export the camera-solve also for after effects ?
to have the same camera movement as in the 3d program?
For example for particles or something like that.
danke dir grüße aus Köln ;)

@NDesignation Ja, das funktioniert.
Einfach in Boujou oder Syntheyes deine Achsenauslegung anpassen und dann nach after effects exportieren.

You could also re-render teapot in jpeg with low quality to match the video, to sell effect better.

@csswafford that's the worst thing to do.

You're better off compositing in After Effects.

Ahh ok.... I understand.. I will create the lid seperately and then scale it up a little placing it on top of the pot.
cottonproductions 2 years ago
an easy way is to add a shell modifier to the teapot with a small internal ammount
