  • is it true that when a missile came at it (blackbird) it would just outrun it ?

  • @duwudenrocketflew Air to air missiles travel around mach 2.6 around sea level. Maximum velocity at higher altitudes will be different for most missiles. SR-71 travels at mach 3. The F-16 hits mach 1.2. Surface to air on the other hand will hit mach 5. It just depends on the situation. If I was running from a missile (which I pray to God that will never happen) and I could choose a jet to run from the missile it would definitely be the SR-71.

  • It's a shame because that's easily one of the coolest planes out there as far as how different it looks in comparison.

  • Missiles?? I don't need no stinkin' missiles!!

  • sr 71 inbound

  • why was this beauty taken out of commission?

  • @sourskitts45 Simple: money. The fleet of SR-71s was proving far too expensive to maintain. I agree, it is disappointing. But we're talking about government officials here, not the pilots who flew this beauty.

  • @sourskitts45 My opinion is because it was to expensive to have in service

  • Penis.

  • still the coolest fastest plane ever.

  • SR-71 lived and served United States of America under the cold war

We will always remember it for serving the country proudly

  • no shit bro, this is why this jet was made for jetfire's vehicle form...

  • SR-71 is on the air

reminds me of COD black ops XD

  • @MrEstoycabron Black ops fans....

  • Retiring this incredible platform was a grave mistake in many ways. I will never forget my days working flight test, Oxcart, Senior Trend, Senior Prom, etc. There was a pride and dedication in those programs that can not be imagined today. We didn't exist and we worked at places never spoken of, quietly doing the impossible with nothing..........

  • Enemy SR-71 in the air

  • I am serious about choker must not forget that even a bomber ballistic missile NUCLEAR ago asser not horror in the world that we look at such a shit!

  • Which freedom?

    Freedom of what?

    Thanks!

  • X-MENNNNNNN

  • @gbdanielbr si aircraft x-men

  • Even though I was born almost 20 years after the big bird was originally designed, it feels as if I flew it myself.

I will never forget the Blackbird.

And I will not cease to relive it's set record of the fastest vehicle on the planet.

  • Ok my favorite jet is the SR-71 and this is very touching for me

  • @ReTriVeAssAssiN You are not alone

  • thank you!! those who flew her

You have earned the the highest honor in the land

  • The Blackbird wasnt all that reliable, cost too much to run and the Airforce was too frighten to push it near its claimed max speed of mach 3.5.... a Sexy expensive plane.

  • @supercake69

Having worked in flight test on the Oxcart program, I have to dissagree with you. Its top attained speed and time to climb remain classified. It was not designed to be "sexy" it was designed to provide intelligence and data (SIGINT) at speeds and altitudes over target with a significantly reduced mission risk. Kelly Johnson and the Skunk Works were tasked to create an aircraft that reduced the risks of flying a similar mission with the U2, and they did so admirably.

  • Comment removed

  • Not sure why this amazing bird isn't still used....as far as we know. It just seems like a waste. The U-2 is still flown i dont see why the Blackbird isn't.

  • @VladVonThad Because we have modern, stealth enabled UAV drones and spy sattelites that can do the same work at a fraction of the cost, more reliably and for longer periods of time.

  • @Doesntwantachannel Agreed...its still a shame.

  • @VladVonThad Oh I know, it was a truly awesome machine. But all great things must come to an end! RIP SR71, Concorde and many more.

  • @VladVonThad

sattelites replaced the big bad bird.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Great video & a most appropriate song (Mighty Wings) for a fast & gracious bird! I saw my 1st one in Ohio at the Air Force museum.

  • did u know they put this mighty special spy plane/tracker in the airforce now

  • In some views it kind of looks like a stingray.

I can only imagine what a Stingy Ray would look like if it were modeled as an aircraft!

  • sssaaaddd fffaacce

  • maybe if we still had some money we could fly cool shit like this...thanks a lot obama

  • I WANT ONE!!! no, seriously, i do.

  • Oh for the love please get this angel back in the sky.

  • why was it removed?

  • GOD BLESS AMAERICA!!!!!!!

  • @rabricci2 You just made america look stupid...good job.

  • Beautiful !

  • yall no this thing leaked fluids like crazy on the ground. it had to have room for the metals to expand from its extreme speeds

  • @bordersoldier

    Wow, someone saw Space Cowboys.

  • Man the guitar in that 2nd song reminds me of Sega Genesis, NES/SNES, and old ass PC games so much...

  • I got a picture taken in front of this thing. It's a shame it was retired. I believe it's last flight was from D.C. to California in just under 42 minutes.

  • @scooter4mylil9life

max speed is 2,200 mph and that trip is around 2,400 miles plus slow take off speeds and landing - not happening.

  • @Nunyabizniz2000 ..For the record attempt, the crew at Plant 42 jigged onboard 12,220 gal.of JP-7 , the Habu did a heavy weight takeoff from Palmdale, did an accel to Mach 3.20 crossing the start gate between Santa Barbara/Ventura ,, LA to DC 1Hr04Min.then crossing the finish gate between Maryland/Delware in 1 Hr07min, flying a distance of 2404 miles..A/C 972?? this Palmdale Testbed for Lockheed. was the last flight under Senior Crown....Cheers

  • The most beautiful and facinating plane I have ever seen. It is a shame it was publicaly retired. Although we don't see it fly in the Media anymore, this angel still flies. I am not going to say anything deeper, but this bird only Publicaly retired. It's great to have close friends that work in JSOC and other parts of the military off limits to most.

  • @KillgoreES88

Yeah, and I had a unicorn steak last night with Jimmy Hoffa.

  • @Nunyabizniz2000 Don't eat em all man, unicorn farts cure cancer. But they are tasty though.

  • wouldnt that be awesome to privately own

  • ~Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it...

~Only the dead have seen the end of war.

  • idk if model or real one but in DC i went to air and space museum and saw it. still hav info on it

  • They will always use this mighty American Warhorse. Don't let'em fool you. God Bless America!

  • oh bullshit, my dad is an Engineer for David Clark, that's the company that makes the space suits an SR-71 Blackbird needs to wear because of the RIDICULOUS Altitudes they are capable of reaching....he says they have to set the SR-71 Suits up like 3 times a year, THEY ARE STILL FLYING BLACKBIRDS....

  • Comment removed

  • Gee, I wish this blackbird is going to show up on the Angry Birds.

  • Don't worry guys, this thing will keep flying forever in the X-men movies!

  • SR71 inbound

  • Remember....last official flight. OFFICIAL :P

  • you stupid dipshit retard they are to still flying like wtf i have 5 family members in the military that say the same thing

  • @TheCreedMember No they're not. Even if they were still in service. You and your family would probably be arrested for treason for releasing information like that.

  • @TheCreedMember jw does the sr71 only fly for NASA now or is it still used in the military

  • idk why they retire stuff like this i could think of like 5 things you could still use it for and im not a paid profesional with a multibillion doller budget.

but i know little to nothing about jets and considering how this country works i probly could become one.....

  • 2:30 Can I have $5000 Regular, and.... forget about the windows!

  • That sounds is trying to say to me "TOP GUN, watch the movie dude!

  • Comment removed

  • y they dnt make them no more?

  • 8 Kills = Blackbird

  • "Lest we NOT forget"? You might want to rethink that one, Einstein!!

  • @ohfeckitanyway

I am still not sure what "lest not forget" means (and I am not the person who wrote it on that vid) but I increased the size of my annotation about that. By the way, even Einstein did some mistakes while speaking his second language (english).

  • @jaylowblow Lest We Forget look Up Anzac Day its australian the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month

  • @jaylowblow Its 'Lest we forget'. Its everywhere on Rememberence day, get it right. Its rather insulting.

  • Iranians, welcome to HELL!!

  • @ohfeckitanyway My Mom's boss owns Einstein's brain. I touched it once...

  • what does SR-71 do? are the jet fighters?drone?cargo plane? of just an supersonic toy?

  • @YvesWonGhz17

Hurr I cant google fer shit

  • @Zvesda you cant google information about it because it doesnt exist anymore, or it is just a rare flying bunch of scrap that flies at mach 3 speed, -_-

  • @YvesWonGhz17 Recon Plane inbound!! If it was shot at with missiles, it would just Hammer down and out run it!! It was the fastest thing in the air at the time.

  • @MrGrin2 LOL! COWARD PLANE!! does that thing have flares? NO, because that thing doesnt have any guns nor countermeasure systems, just candles, LOL!

  • Fast plane, but a lot slower than the surveillance satellites that replaced it

  • @yomama629 not just satellites, but UAVs which can fly undetected under the clouds too with armament. =)

  • @SnakeMxR yeah, drones are awesome too, but I didn't mention them because they're nowhere near as fast as SR-71's or satellites

  • I miss this plane. I worked at Dulles International (KIAD) when this plane came in from California on it's last record breaking flight. It shook the scaffolding that I was on as it zipped over. A true beauty to behold as it glided down from the air and landed. It just doesn't look right sitting dormant in the Udvar-Hazy museum.

  • Our SR-71 is in the air

  • Is this the REAL LAST FLIGHT?

  • Yes, lets remember the SR-71, and also take a moment to appreciate the some what new SR-75's secretly in use. Shhhh... ;)

  • This aircraft is just beautiful. A pinnacle of engineering.

BUT, the statement ..those who "paid the ultimate sacrificed to preserve our freedom" is a statement full of shit. Air Force pilots are mass murderers who deserve to burn in hell for their crimes. There's nothing heroic about bombing cities and people to dust. And they certainly don't do their job for your freedom.

Keep it real and cut the crap. Its sickening.

    Other than that, beautiful video.

  • @curiosityuniversal woah woah woah. back up. Mass murderers? Do you know how much shit they have to go through to get their jobs done? How much much money they spend to make weapons more accurate so that carpet bombings are less necessary? Not to mention you said this on a video of AN UNARMED PLANE!

No wonder people think we Americans are so stupid >.>

  • @ArsArma No people think Americans are idiots because of what they do, because of who they vote for, because they go to war for oil and claim its for freedom, because they use the word freedom in every context whether it fits or not, and because they are hippocrites. Making weapons more accurate so you don't have to carpet bomb, really?, is that supposed to be a humanitarian accomplishment? Beautiful plane, but the government and the airforce reek of human blood.

  • @curiosityuniversal It is an amazing humanitarian accomplishment and feat of human engineering!

It's not like what we are doing is going to change, either. And what the government does is done independently of the people, this sort of thing has very little with what the general populace does! That's why it is a republic! By the end of all of these little wars in the middle east, at least then we would be able to when a situation like this arises again.

  • @ArsArma Little wars in the middle east, funny, our economy is in the garbage and this country is going to hell but people still refuse to see it. Feat of engineering, yes, humanity?... no, weapons engineering is not humanitarian, its not ethical, its for pure enjoyment/profit. Don't confuse the two.

Also, BECAUSE this is a democracy the people share the burden of responsibility when they elect an incompetent idiot to wage war for them. The American public is just as guilty of mass murder.

  • @curiosityuniversal Bringing back the soldiers is supposed to fix the economy?

  • @ArsArma Wow just wow. Your way of thinking is astonishing. So having the soldiers you've sent to war remain occupying a country where they do NOT belong all the while murdering innocent people and when those people retaliate you bomb them and call them terrorists and feel proud about it ...is a better alternative?

They don't belong there, bring them back, they shouldn't have been sent in the first place. The economy isn't going to get better, if we keep going we'll collapse like the soviets did

  • @curiosityuniversal Everything will suddenly be perfect if we pull out leave things as they now?

  • @ArsArma Oh no, not at all. The economy is still screwed to hell either way. The people in the middle east will only hate us more if we stay, but if we leave they'll still hate our guts for what we already did. Whats done can't be undone. That is why going to war is no light matter. 9/11 was no excuse to rush in head first. But what would you accomplish by staying there? More casualties and further increase in debt until economic collapse sets in.

  • @curiosityuniversal .."History really does repeat itself"..all the comments put forward about the USA involvement in the middle East, are exactly what my generation put up with during 1963 thru 1974 concerning VietNam..people who don't remember the past, always tend to repeat it......Peace

  • @pipercub123456 Words of wisdom. If only more people understood what you just said, the world would be a better place. Looking at world history as far back as we can, its all repetition of the same events.

Funny how people don't think their country will collapse until it finally does.

This country has already passed the critical point. Emphasis on engineering and sciences is going down while the public is investing more into arts and music. Propaganda is rampant and everyone is corrupt.

  • @curiosityuniversal In case you didn't know, the SR-71's mission was never meant to kill anyone. It's primary mission during the cold war was to sneak into Soviet airspace and spy on their nuclear operations. It's fairly well-documented nowadays. The Blackbird was meant to protect the American People against mutually assured destruction, and it was damm good at its job. It is the symbol of the US Air Force's mission to protect the US from any foreign threat without arms.

  • why did it get decomisund

  • that sound it's a shit

  • @UnknownDemoTapes oh sorry, i was reffering to my friend's electric guitar. i have an rc sr-71 and from a far view it really looks like an electric guitar :D cool though pretty fast

  • @UnknownDemoTapes oh sorry im reffering to my friend's electric guitar. and i have an rc sr-71 from afar it looks like a flying guitar :D cool though

  • the SR stands for "Sweet Ride"!

  • I was stationed at Kadena AFB Okinawa in the early 70's, I worked on the flight line and when this baby came out of the hanger all activity stopped, it was a site to see and watch. If I had been in combat and seen this flying by (If I could see it) I'd probably would of shot at it. I didn't know the AF had such a plane and being not knowing what it was, seems to reason I'd of shot at it.

  • Dude I love watching this video just for the music. Was the first track Joe Satriani?? If so what track was it. Good job!

  • @quisp2112

Is it a joke? The songs on this vid are listed in the vid itself, the description of the vid and and in the advertisings. Open your eyes please.

  • @jaylowblow No reason to be a dick... there's no conceivable reason he would watch all 6 minutes; I've watched 3, and I'm pretty sure I get the gist of it. Furthermore, who the hell watches credits when given the option?

  • @BobMillahhh

It was on the screen 3 seconds in,

    during the title screen-

    not at the end.

  • @jetpoweredgriffin Alright, smartypants. The annotation at the beginning was added BECAUSE of comments like mine and has happened SINCE my comment was posted. Thanks for your input though. The original comment was a guy trying to be nice, and the asshole OP decided to tear him apart because he wanted to know what the song was.

  • @BobMillahhh

    No problem-

    unlike most everybody on here....

    I COULD be wrong!

  • @jaylowblow Your right, but that sounds like Satriani with his Allien Guitar...

  • @jaylowblow - We'll open our eyes if you get your grammatical mistakes checked by someone who can read and write grammatically correct English. Don't be so rude when someone asks you an innocent, non aggressive question on Youtube. Your video is riddled with mistakes. Pull your head in, Boy.

  • @smeary10 You are awesome.

  • @quisp2112 or steve vai

  • sexy...

  • now how many un-official unrecorded flights and missions do you think those stealth birds took apart of?

  • 世上最美的飛行器,lockheed臭鼬工廠經典中的經典. 遇到地對空飛彈,它只要加速,遇到戰機追逐,它只要加速.

    SR-71

  • its all on the net look for it

  • The black bird was a stud.

  • The best of the best!!!

  • Such a beautiful plane !!!

  • why was this aircraft removed? serious question

  • @MkLueder

The US government said it cost too much. Others say it was because of satellites, there was no need for it anymore.

  • @brightlights456X yup satellites are way forward in 2011 British were only country to develop launch capability of missiles from satellites

  • @motorguzzi100

"launch capability of missiles from satellites"

What do you mean by that? Do you mean missiles can be fired from Space to the ground?

  • @MkLueder why was British tsr2 removed politics my friend also British lightning overtook and looked down on u2 spyplane american this was thought impossible we are all equal in this world its all politics

  • its jetfire

  • Who came here because they wanted to see how the Blackbird looked like in real life from CoD?

  • @ResistingDeath no one cause black ops is shit

  • @ResistingDeath Looks the same as it does in the game, you can climb on it in the hangar 18 map!

  • @targetman1982 Yeah dude, at least Treyarch did get something right there.

  • why epic planes always go out of service and the shity ones stay :'( its unfair

  • i love you sr-71 please come back

  • The title of this Vid is misleading, this film was producted by Lockheed in 1985,by hired cinematographer Bob Mehnert, contains good ground shots captured at BealeAFB and aerials shots around Plamdale, mostly A/C 955 (Palmdale Test Bed)with its "duckbill" nose, most clips on youtube are from this 85' film,Aviation Heritage Film titled "Mission SR-71 Blackbird", available from Habu.org,a good film telling a good story, about a Habu sortie, copyright NF Video,NF-164..highly recommended.

  • so much life left in them too.. sorry to see them go :(

  • Our freedom? I don't think you understand how a republic works, do you?

  • beautiful plane

  • SR-71, X-15, XB-70, F-15, F-18, F-111, Mustang, Boeng 747-787, Piper(Seminole, Piper Cub :-) Learjet, Cessna... Bravo americans! From Russia.

  • @MrRaydann are you being sarcastic ?

  • @lonewolfbadassery Absolutely isn't present. I really consider that Americans - outstanding aviabuilders. Our countries in avant-guard of aircraft construction.

  • @MrRaydann and bravo to russia for thier RSM-56-Bulava the most advanced missle in human history

  • @ww2guy100 Me impresses ракета 53Т6 "Gazelle" more...

The word "russia" is written from capital letter - "Russia"

  • @ww2guy100 ..I'm sure most Cold War veterans will agree, that we need to stop funding these radioactive relics,we already have enouch nuclear firepower to destroy the world 5 times over, spend these Billions on technologies that will serve and secure our furtures, not destroy it, unfortunately each generation has this self destructive nature, that is so common to the whole human race, only old warriors are able to realize this, and only in hindsight...good luck with your furture...NOT!!!

  • @pipercub123456 i agree with you 100%

  • @pipercub123456 you evidently don't have a fucking clue what this plane did

  • @sewallm60 ....I have many clues and expert knowledge concerning... trees ...toadstools ...and best of all ...green frogs.....Peace

  • from 2:18 and on makes me wanna play vollyball with mother goose, bang a female flight instructor and bust in her face, chomp my teeth back at ice man, then tell him he's a pussy cuz a real man doesnt need a wing man, tell slider his armpits stink & then give meg ryan a shot from behind while tossing goose's dog tags overboard....;-p

  • whats the name of the son arter second 00:14 ?

  • 12 out of 32 aircraft were lost as a result of accidents

  • it last flew in 1999 in desert sheild keeping an eye on the oil feilds i know this because it flew over my house

  • @dade356 The CIA currently operates the five newest Blackbirds. They were not sent to museums. If you watch Edwards and whiteman AFB's you will see them going out at night. MIG 25 operating beyond 90,000 ft? Not likely. As for the advertised top speed of Mach 3.3, think about it. It flew from California to New York in thirty two minutes 16 seconds from take off to touch down. Considering it MUST fuel in flight after take off, subtract those seven to ten minutes, do the math. It's how fast?

  • @GunBroker100 No, They most likely didnt start the timer till after it was fueled and crossed a certain point over California.

  • @BBTthetank ..Behind the scenes, top USAF officials were against any good publicity the SR-71 may gather from any record setting flights after having worked to cancel the Senior Crown program,,only pressure brought by Lockheed and some US Senators like John Glenn, did the USAF let the Habu have one more record run, no high USAF offiicials were present at Dulles when the A/C landed, but Ben Rich was there from Lockheed, plus some like minded US Senators..Long Live the Habu..

  • @GunBroker100 .The Habu flew many sorties out of DET-1 through the Korean DMZ without refueling, during the record setting flight in 1990, the SR-71 was gigged with 12,200 gallons JP-7, took off from Palmdale did an accel to enter the timing gate between Santa Barbara&Ventura,LA to Dulles !Hr,04Min,passing the East coast timing gate on the Maryland Delware line in 1Hr,07Minutes, this was the last flight under Senior Crown,A/C 972 was the active Palmdale Test Bed at the time...Peace

  • How did they film this? Did they use other fighter jets to keep up with it?

  • Makes you wonder if Kelly Johnson were still alive today designing aircraft what would be his latest masterpiece

  • I had a black bird launch a shit on my car today. Does that count? I only wish it was that birds final flight.

  • @lolyfoo1997 because USSR made mig 25

  • MIG 25 easy fucking--> SR-71
