Unfortunately, that's not what's happening, and in most cases, especially in the tropical climates of countries in the developing world, dams actually produce lots of greenhouse gases as the organic material in flooded reservoirs decomposes, (check out Silenced Rivers, by Patrick McCully). It's not enough just to have "clean" "green" power production, it must be de-centralized (nuclear plants and large dams are not), so that corporations can't continue their system of exploiting people.
Everybody has to make sacrifices to stop climate change. As far as possible the sacrifice has to be shared.
