  • It's a shame she has never metioned you or how awesome you are well i bet no kids there besides me know who you are

  • Whose she?

  • the person at the begining of the video

  • Matt Cuttle or Kate Heavenor?

  • Kate heavenor oh sorry i forgot to say nice video larry i love watching the past damn i wish i was born earlier

  • Yeah, I wish I was old enough to have enjoyed the boom in arcades in the early 80's.

but gaming is a lot easier now, the only way to get news back then was waiting a month for the magazines to come out.

  • I never knew you know kate! she's my stage school teacher and she married now just to tell you

  • it's a small world isn't it?

  • well said so do you know when you are going to do any more videos for screwattack?

  • No idea matey, They're not replying to our questions about payment.

So we're doing stuff for TGWTG and Retroware TV at the moment.

  • ok thanks for the heads up man i need to go on That guy's website more

  • The arcade stick is what really caught my eye for this video.

  • It's a really nice stick, made out of pretty thick steel.

  • @ScrewAttackEurope:

Cool! That arcade accessory does look like it has some weight to it.

  • Indeed, have you been tempted to get one?

  • @ScrewAttackEurope:

Yeah, I've owned many different quality arcade joysticks, for everything from the Super Nintendo & DreamCast, down to the original Xbox & PlayStation 2.

  • Wow, Ever thought about building one yourself as well? It's not that hard really. You can even buy kits.

I sort of did that when I refurbished a Ninja Turtles machine a few years back.

  • Yeah, I have thought about it actually, but never seriously.

I would always get side-tracked by one thing or another, then I would just end up buying retail arcade sticks.

There are a few 'built-it-yourself' websites that are helpful for beginners.

  • i would pay for a g@mers dvd.

or some more content on youtube would be nice :D

  • Wish I was smart enough to understand this I just wanna play MVS games at home :P

  • Well, easiest way really is to but a Neo Geo AES off eBay, then get an MVS converter for it.

But you can but some homemade MVS machines.

  • I found an AES at a retro game store by me for $300 or $350, with original box and all,___I should probably get that and the converter.

  • $300? Hmmm, does it come with any joysticks or games?

  • Yeah it comes with original arcade stick, no games but they do sell games there, I actually have the Fatal Fury AES game(got it on Ebay a while ago).

  • I just bought a load of AES games for mine on eBay for $15 each,

What MVS games were you after out of curiosity?

  • Metal Slug series, the rest of the Fatal Fury series, World Heroes, KOF,....theres more but this is basics, I'm focusing all my attention now on getting the SF4 tournament stick!! They have stopped preorders and will have to either wait or get ripped off on Ebay. I waited so long because I didnt wanna get it from gamestop but didnt find another retailer that I didnt have to wait on shipping.

  • Well if you own a PS2, you could get the SNK collection disc, then spend the money on a PS2 Neo Geo Stick. That'd be cheaper!

Have you looked on Amazon for Pre-Orders too?

  • Thats the stick I wanted, the Neo Geo stick 2, and its very very hard to find...yes I found that they are taking preorders for ps3 tournament sticks, I'll probably get it from there....I dont think I'm smart enough to get the reg arcade stick and put in Sarwa parts!! It looks like the 360 tournament sticks on Amazon arent even for preorder. So the SNK collections look and play like the original games? That would save money.

  • It's cheaper if you start with a CMVS which is a consolized MVS arcade board. It is basically a dedicated supergun for an MVS. It will run you about $300 but you will not need to buy a converter as you can play straight MVS games. If you go the AES route you need the converter so you have a starting price of $550 compared to $300 for the CMVS. Stay away from the PS2 collection as the speed isn't right, some games are too fast and others too slow.

  • Also the MVS>AES converter doesn't play the MVS games 100%. Sometimes there are scaling problems with certain games as well. Not worth the $250 price tag.

  • Really? That I did not know!

They revised a lot of the speed issues for the PAL releases of the SNK collection, though it's a nightmare to see if you're playing it via a PS3, Waay to pixelated, they could have put some Anti Ailsing.

  • Yes, it does look horrendous on a PS3. However a CMVS looks killer on a huge LCD if you use an XRGB converter which converts the raw RGB signal to a high quality one that an LCD can display. Plus you can turn on the scan line feature for that arcade monitor feel.

  • I'd personally would buy a dedicated machine given there's only $50 difference in that and an AES converter.

BTW, do you know a lot about MVS's? My friend's just bought some 6 slot PCB's to play on his Super Neo 29 and is getting a lot of graphical junk on screen.

He originally had a 4 slot in there, you don't think it needs an increase of power to accommodate the extra two slots?

I had a similar problem with an old AES I owned too.

  • For your friends 6 slot it does require more power than the 4 slot but if he's using an arcade PSU it should supply more than enough. It sounds like he needs to clean the slots on the 6 slot. There's a "how to" on the hard mvs website.

  • Thanks! do you have a link at all?

  • Do u have any more clips of this show? I remember 1 which was about the Atari lynx which featured Rampage & A old Lady, I think u did the voice for that 1.

BTW I've seen the other 1 with the Vectrex.

  • I didn't do the voice, but I wrote the segment!

  • I used to have a super gun. It was a Sigma one with two joysticks built in. I used it for Neo Geo MVS games.

By the way, did anyone see the one on ebay where the joystick was built into a Quality Street tin?!

  • incredible! Don't know where to get approx 5500 dollars for Tekken 5 or an Arcade thingo for approx 600 bucks, but this is an incredible thing!

  • Well its gone down quite a bit now as this was filmed in 2006, so it should be about 200 now.

Just have a look on eBay, thats where I got mine.

  • ok thanks.

  • That guy with the pink top, didnt he used to be on that games program hosted by the 2 black guys and the GAMES GURU?

  • Matt Cuttle used to work on Gamezville yeah.

  • is that show still going, the gameguru was funny?

  • Nope, it finished the end of 2006, infact they owe me money for my work with them.

  • They gave it to the guru,to keep the harmonial balance of gaming even.Man that show was so bad it was good, when they'd do the gamers challenge and they'd get the crappest gamers in the country and they still usually beat the 2 hosts. How i lol'ed

  • Look for the Wikipedia page about it, frickin' hilarious, also the link to the Jolt TV article about the series too!!!

  • I'm glad people are making clones of these machines - it's just the boards we have to worry about really..

  • Wow Larry are you the most famous UK gamer?

  • I think just more of an attention whore ^_^

  • Wow, someone FINALLY talks about the Super Gun on a gaming show. I bought a Super Gun over a decade ago just so I could enjoy coin-op perfect titles like: Strider, Willow, Super Contra and Xexex to name a few. Today, my Super Gun and Jamma PCBs are packed away and preserved. Nowadays, I just use MAME or whatever Capcom / Konami greatest hits software :)

  • Yeah, it's one of the reasons I brought it to the studio to feature on the show, you never hear anything about the super gun anywhere.

I use MAME a lot too now on a modified Xbox (so I can play it on the TV, just alot less of a hastle setting up)

  • who was the woman at the begining? i recorgnise her! from childrens TV i think.

  • Kate Heavenor, she's on the other G@mers video on my account too.

She used to do Fully Booked if you remember.

  • het larry i was wondering where is the best place to pic up some retro awsomeness in the uk

  • most probably ebay to be honest, sometimes Gamestation but they can be expensive.

  • larry you know your retro games and you are an awsome man that was awsome one thing do you still work on tv?

  • Thanks dude,

Yup i'm on TV still, I do a Retro show on XLEAGUE TV now (Sky Channel 279) which appears in the show "The Chart".

Keep an eye out for it!

  • sky channel got it i keep an eye out for ya later dude and i love games that yanks cant wank :)

  • Lol, than you'll like this as they're very similar.

(Just called "Guru Larry's Retro Corner" on there though ^_^)

  • Awesome video, I used to watch g@mers all the time...it was way better then that crappy gamezville on sky one ^^;

  • Indeed, why oh why didn't they use the money to make a fifth series of "Games world"?

  • That was really an awesome video. I didn't know you had done work like this... you came off as very intelligent, Guru Larry!

  • Thanks dude, it was a long time ago.

I just hate having people on TV that have no idea what they're talking about either, really grinds my gears as it were ^_^

  • Another quite interesting video, fair few flaws though in the commentary there ;-) no mention of kick harnesses for extra moves etc.. BTW: is that a big-arse GOLIATH PSU powering the Supergun? from the Amiga days.. sure looks like it..

  • Nah, thats the console itself, what powers it is a standard PC / Kettle plug.

  • Ahh right... durrrr... I suppose the PSU is built in then.. cool.

  • Yup, it's a Datel one too, quite rare, most of the ones you get in the UK are made by Raven Games.

  • Yeah, I will make my own eventually ;-) compiling the info at the moment..

  • You might be better off getting an old Xbox and soft modding it to play MAME games really! takes up a lot less space!

  • Naaah.. then its not authentic.. ;-)

  • Yeah but Authentic = Expensive.

You're better off getting the key ones you really want, and having emulation for the rest. I paid £250 for a Simpsons Board once.

  • Simpsons? My favourite <3 Well when I build these here contraptions I'll be able to purchase several boards ;-)

  • Well if you're after authenticity, why don't you get yourself a full sized machine? Most come in at under £100

  • lol thats exactly what i plan to do i got an xbox soft modded with mame and got a 2player x arcade stick (apparently the best got it for a bargin like £25) but i just cant be bothered to collect it from my bros house plus i aint got the space. i prefer playing on the sega dreamcast stick the BEST stick i have ever played on. street fighter is a dream to play on it. plus i got like 100 dreamcast games n most of em are jap near perfect arcade ports. like the vid pal keep doin your stuff

  • You know you can get a converter to play the Dreamcast stick on a Xbox?

Infave you could buy a DC to USB lead then a USB to Xbox Lead, cheap as chips.

  • no i had no idea thanks for the info!

  • No problemmo ^_^

eBay is probably the best place to look for a lead.

  • Is G@mers made by the same people who made Gamezville?

  • The only connection between the two was Matt Cuttle, Noone else involved.

  • wow

  • 4000 pounds, whoo...

  • That guy on the left used to have a part in Gamezville on Sky One, correct?

  • That is indeed correct, Matt Cuttle.

  • cool video!!!! an arcade controller, impressive

  • Is it like the same thing with a MAME emulator rom.

  • Yup, this is pretty much the legal console version of MAME.

  • tekken 5? thats impressive for such an old piece of kit!

  • Oh, it's possible to play any arcade game ever made with it, even ones made this year, like Mario Kart GP 2.

  • What ever happened to Rapture TV.

  • They refused to pay the Sky licensing fee after Sky increased it and sadly went under (infact they still owe money for some of the work I did there)

Though they said they might return as an internet TV channel soon.

  • *Larry*

  • Dare I say... Guru Gary > Handsome Tom :-O ZOMG!

  • Lol mortal combat...

  • nice vid larry.the guys last comment was kinda cheezy, but you showed em what was up.i love the mortal 1 set up...

  • Thanks dude!

  • Another excellent video. I think I saw that presenter in Sky One's Gamezville. I don't know where you find the space to store such a big device.

  • Where the hell did Gamezville go?

    I remember watching that.

  • Just think it got cancelled. They changed the program's format and time a few times. Don't think it was too popular. When it first started it sucked, but it started to get better. Most video game shows don't seem to last for whatever reason.

  • Have a look at the Wikipedia page to Gamezville, very funny read. and some quotes by famous people proclaiming it as the worst video game show of all time.

  • lol kk i will.

  • Cool, did you see it, always cheers me up when i'm feeling down. :D

  • lol

  • Yeah, Matt Cuttle, He was one of the "G Team".

  • Larry rulz!

  • Lol, Thanks everyone!!!

  • 'ooo what a big machine' lol

    You rock Larry!

  • so thats where they got the idea for the steel batallion controller :-p

  • Fantastic video its great to see ya on TV GO LARRY.

  • Man, that music is crazy good. Anyway, that was just as good as the last one!
