I know. Let me point with the end of a short, squat battleaxe. Because that seems pointy. *oh, the UI mistakes they used to make back in the day* Also, the music at 0:59 is "Golden Brown" by the Stranglers? The Amiga version did not sound like that... lol.
Why does the player click on every individual square in order to move? IIRC you could click any number of squares away in the same room in order to move
@DragonLord1975 that or KK hadn't been released at the time they were working on the game. Still, would it killed them to have released it as an expansion pack or something? maybe the pc game bombed
Actually they do. If an Amiga soundtrack is reduced to the technical capabalities of another platform it's crap. But when a soundtrack has been specially made for MIDI or the C64's SID chip, then it's awesome. ;)
@holygalaga I am afraid I don't know, 7th fugue in C major or some type. The fact I don't know the name devalues my argument, but I have heard the original classical movement. In my defence however, this game came out in 1991, 9 years after Golden Brown by The Stranglers, and yet there is no copyright on the box for "Golden Brown", or "The Stranglers" or the member of the band that was the "writer" of the music. Why would that be if the music is a Stranglers original?!
this is damn awesome the best boardgame ever made, its soo old and the prime father of all role playing games !!the second is starquest the follower i still have the two !!^^
DnD was created in 1974. This came out 15 years later (16 for the N. American version). This is based on the earlier non-American version because it's Morcar instead of Zargon that you fight.
Sadly no, this option is not available. Rather, this game has all the maps taken directly from the basic Hero Quest "Game System" and the first expansion "Return of the Witch Lord" (but no Kellar's Keep), modified, I imagine to fit the parameters of the pc version of course.
Great game, sure brings back some very fond memories. I used to play the AMIGA version alot and it wasnt long after that that I got the board game version from my older brother. Sadly there werent that many that were interested in the board-version, but I played with my brother and his friends.
Yes! I had seen this game for last time in 1992. This brings memories back. Just play Heroquest at a friend of mine, go to school, watch tv, hanging around. no problems. Shit, 17 years. Time is passing away.
Greetings from Germany (this is why my english is crap.)
i wish that there was a heroquest game for the gbc, gba, or even the ds, that would rock, I never did play the pc game, but there's a fan made game out there, but would love to own this game, thanks for the video, i think i have commented on this before, but i owned the board game back in the day, but i got rid of it, and am proud to say i have owned a second copy of the board game
TrueAdam, tell me step by step what you're doing, because the sound definitely works in the latest DOSbox, assuming you have a soundblaster compatible card and the game is complete (ie: not some stripped version with files missing).
Hmm, you're right, that song does bear a striking resemblance... maybe because it's in harpsichord style compared to this midi?
It might have been properly licensed, or not. Good find! It wouldn't be the first time a game has "stolen" a song... look at the arcade "Vanguard" which steals the opening theme from Star Trek the Motion Picture.
I notice in this version there doesn't appear to be any restrictions on what gear the Wizard can use... which means he can really be a major threat down the road! Trouble is they take away all your potions at the end of a quest... what did they expire?
Awesome soundtrack

The Amiga version had so much better music - it's the same melodies, but MIDI is no match for the sampled music of the Amgia.

@XSC3 See my post from 3 months ago (!) this is from a 17th century tune, so there is no copyright!

Golden Brown, as in the music here, is adapted from a 17th century piece of music!!!! You should know by now, nothing is original!!!! :)

I used to have this, I'd always get annoyed when people died because they lost their stuff.
What was with the random 'Golden Brown' song being in there. Was that there all the time?
Grez 2 years ago
Yeah, the game music either plays continuously (see my other videos) or there's no music.
Obviously the board game had no music, unless you turned on your stereo. ;)
