  • this is even better than perfection.

  • anyone can cry when they start humming at 2:50

  • mouth falling to floor heart melting "hit play" NOW

  • at 5:46 it looks like they have full down syndrome but I know their music and can attest to its creative genius

  • An a-too-stoned set performed by Animal Collective.

  • Uniquely STUPID as FUCK!

  • god damn it how'd they do that

  • @willlliw creativity

  • this is insanely good (:

  • did not see Baby Day coming there at the end.

  • I liked this very much. To think that when this was being filmed (2003) I was in 2nd grade...

  • Is fucking good, cuz it's an early version of Winter's song

  • @bigmanpigman nope, this was after winter's love was recorded

  • There technical ability surpasses any death metal band

  • @TheCrimper

I'd say that's false as Panda Bear throughout most of this video plays the same chord, a lot, over, & over, & over. Nothing wrong with that, it sounds great and works - but let's not rave about its complexity. :P

A lot of death metal bands are "complex" in the sense that they play & move fast & have crazy time signatures & shit. And that's where they've gone wrong - that isn't what makes good, wholesome music :)

It's true for rap as well, but not because it's complex :P

  • @arvidownsyou

learn to sarcasm over the internet

  • @arvidownsyou that's all true except for the part about the time signatures, ac has some really complex time signatures but they still work and aren't overbearing (it's what makes some of the songs on sung tongs sound like a waltz and some on mpp sound like african chants)

  • I love it, but I have to imagine that at least half the audience cleared out when they played this! Now I think it would make a great encore

  • this is no creative shit

    this really sounds like a

    huapango with some cats

    singing.

  • ... who put those two poor retarded boys on stage? This is exploitation! And why aren't they wearing their helmets?!?

  • @OnyxSparrow

Who put you in charge of saying who has mental problems and who doesnt? I think you have a mental problem if you can't hear the greatness in this. Because these guys are one of the best bands still out now. Just as good as The mars volta...even its different music the stuff they put out is just amazing. Man, people now are just robots.

  • @Badman2123 First off... it was a joke. Made two months ago. Secondly, you've got yourself set at an 8.6 on the flame scale. You really need to zen out. Or stop listening to this music, it's overstimulating your glands. Or you are indeed just a bad, bad man.

  • @OnyxSparrow

hahahahah then your just a douche then...if you like them then why comment something that doesnt even show that your joking? Your so funny hahaha...I need to chill out...haha. Yeah thats why i meditate everyday you asshole haha. I cuss alot happy mad or sad so stfu haha. Im gonna do what im gonna do and your comment was a insult to them. Take some acid and you then will see how connected you get to the music. You will want to stand up for them.

  • @Badman2123 I don't like then. I don't hate them. I hardly even care, really. I was refered over to this video by a friend who wanted me to take a listen. Two months ago. As of now I'm being amused more by you than the video, which is the only reason I'm back. Thanks for that, by the way. And yes that explains so much, you take acid. I suppose acid WOULD make this more interesting... but then I'd be like you, so no thank you.

  • @OnyxSparrow

Then why the fuck comment you dumbfuck. Its sad people now think lsd is something that hurts them. LSD MAKES YOU MORE HUMAN! Have a great boring robotic life. Peace

  • @Badman2123 More human. Obviously. Good luck with that.

  • @OnyxSparrow

Like you would know haha? Why cant people see that psychedelics and meditation shows us the answers to everything. Have you ever even smoked weed before?

  • @Badman2123 Ah... no, they don't. Meditation is a medthod of achieving mental disapline and to explore the potential of your mind through control. Psychedelics break the line between perception and reality, sometimes permanently, and take control away. In any case, the human condition is measured as society as a whole, not as an individual. Do you think that your use of drugs is a shortcut to enlightment instead of self-dillusion? Get over yourself and move on.

  • @OnyxSparrow

Just stfu hahaha...you are a fucking robot. Laters

  • @OnyxSparrow On enlightenment, the sooner you can truly live your life, the better; its the truth that matters, and not how you arrive at it. It sounds a little like you consider your life choices more valid than others', and are making generalizations about drugs and self-dillusion (with how much personal experience?) Remember, discussion>arguement, show that you have some kind of enlightenment and keep your emotions under control

  • @Cartpack You did read those past comments, right? I was being yelled at, betrated, and degraded... and you've chosen to comment on ME being the one making generalizations, judging people, and arguing? Wow... just wow...

  • @OnyxSparrow Yeah you're right, you were being yelled at, berated and degraded, just like millions of others on the internet with a dissenting opinion. You may have even been the one who was less defensive, but it doesn't matter, what matters is the ability to make peace. Its easy, just say, ok, we have different opinions, but we have some common ground in being people, so let's respect eachother for that

  • you can tell the awesome contrast between avey and panda just from watching this video

  • Possibly one of their best performances I've seen

  • Possibly one of their best performances I've seen

  • this is so fucking good.

  • I want to say I miss the sung tong days. I do, but it's so difficult because everything they do they get just right and they never seem to feel right doing just one style. The Animal Collective of Merriwether is almost a completely new band, but I still love them to bits.

  • @happychump no way, they'd been touring merriweather for almost 3 years before it was released, in fact I think it was their longest tour of any era. Early 07 to late 09. They're in a new era now, it's a solo era. But in a year or so you may hear news of them touring again, they're worn out!

  • playing a concert like this would be so exausting, I guess that's why their first couple years, their shows were so short...

  • Blows my mind away every time I see this. :)

  • this is by far one of thee best footage of these guys. Man, I love em. They always find a way to make things so original & different yet amazing, even with just themselves & two guitars. Btw, I gotta say they're lookin might-tee fine here ;D

  • I bought a copy of here comes the Indian immediately after and was blown away again because it was completely different again! I believe the end of the song is a bside from who could win a rabbit. I'll never forget this show. I'd love to see the rest again.

  • @neitherdoi yeah the end is a song called baby day... its the b-side to the who could win a rabbit single

  • I was at this show they were supporting four tet. This was the first time I saw this band and they absolutely blew my mind. I saw them come out with their acoustic guitars and expected to be bored to tears by winey miserable songs. Instead they just erupted in fits and yelps and playing guitars like I've never seen anyone playing them.

  • wow, its rare to see Panda Bear with a guitar in his hand! this is amazing!

    Winters Love, great song

  • @HippieHappyTV

not nowadays. btw i'm gay for noah

  • its more like our generations jungle book soundtrack played really fast

  • i was being ironic.. why would they play my girls in 2003? lol

  • anyone else notice the blue sequin things avey has on under his jeans?

  • actually its winters love off of sung tongs, it sounds nothing like my girls.

  • This is definitely one of the best videos I've ever watched on Youtube

  • best duo!

  • retarded

  • id favorite this 50 million times if youtube would let me

  • sex

  • is it "baby day" at the end?

  • no, it's my girls, but it sounds exactly like baby day! can you hear it?

  • @whatwouldiwantsky

at the end? thats what it sounds like to me

  • Music from a different dimension

  • they still do this now, it's just a different aesthetic

  • were the playing "visiting friends" a the very beginning? Because like the chord

  • this is definitely my favorite performance of winters love.

  • on the bootleg recording of this session that i have, there is really bad laughing at the parts of their most intense vocal straining that you can only hear from the positioning of the recording device

  • dude link

  • hahah yeah that always annoys me so much.

  • definitely my favorite era of animal collective.

i love it all... but this is special.

  • i agree 100 percent. i wish this included the full concert. it's definitely my favorite boot.

  • she gonna have a baby

  • Makes me happy

  • Comment removed

  • I am really not wise at all

  • it shows

  • Always ahead of their time

  • I like how they are evolving because when i started listening to them 5 years ago i felt retarted because i was the only one. I feel better now

  • wait, what?

  • the more people that begin to like them it feels more impersonal

  • oh aren't you so indie

why cant you just enjoy music even when it's for a larger audience

  • haha.oh arent u so wise

  • lol i agree with you both.

  • I understand what what derek means. I came in around Sung Tongs, and i was 1 of 3 people in my school who liked it, now that im out of high school, and i see a lot of shows, its become so strange to see thousands of people rather than hundreds at a Black Dice and AC show...i won't say its impersonal. But i will say its a strange feeling when you see a bunch of kids going "yeah My Girls...yeah yeah! OMFG My Girls." when your really thinking "Please omg, please Winer's Love old style..."

  • wurd vasher. couldnt of said it any better. personally, out of all their material, spirit they've vanished and danse manatee are my faaavorite.

  • Nearly all their albums have somthing really unique in its own sweet way. I think Here Comes the Indian is mine.

  • @derekio137

    no way

HCTI is by far their best album. as a matter fact i'd go as far as to say it's one of the best albums of not only modern music but of all music

  • @derekio137

    FOSHO! You know whats up

  • you're*

I love My Girls. and the old and new versions of Winter's Love. and when they mash Winter's Love and Covered in Frogs together.

  • Yeah, My Girls sucks. Once a band is more popular than they were when you first heard of them, they suck. Right?

  • I use to think the same way but then I realized that I love animal collective to much, I just relax and like what I like and dont really talk to people about the music I listen to besides my girl friend.

I feel like its way to much of a personal thing for me to just openly talk to someone about it.

  • Well, it is experimental. What do you expect?

  • I always love whenever they do Winter's love live, it's so crazy.

  • they are great acoustic.

  • i couldn't believe it when they started baby day!

oh what i would give for the full version of this concert (pro shot and everything!)

  • 05/10/03: Gardner Arts Centre, Brighton (@192)

  • wait, are you saying there is a video of the whole concert? or are you just talking about the audio.

  • Think he's talking about just the audio.

Fatcat, if you read these comments... release the full show on DVD!!

  • Our generations The Beatles.

  • so true

  • lol

  • they mark musically our transition into the info-age.

AC live is unreal, its evolution. Their development is easily comprable to the greats.

    Beatles, Beethoven, Bach,

    Remarkable

  • @in2wish4ever word.

  • @in2wish4ever: i wish. hardly anybody appreciates creative music anymore. now its all hiphop bullshit...

  • @in2wish4ever How dare you insult Animal Collective like that...

  • @in2wish4ever but the beatles were mainstream, pop oriented, and concrete, this is abstract and for the most part, rejected by the mainstream

  • @MrAnarchyintheusa what don't you understand about OUR generation. clearly you're not an abstract thinker or you'd understand a simple concept of comparing what the Beatles were for their era to this band for ours. yeah they were far more successful but were widely loved at the time and did develop a hardcore audience appreciating their work. I'd panda bears got brian wilson in him to but everyones killed that observation already

  • @TikTakSambo i see what you're poking at, i just prefer to look at it in different terms

  • @MrAnarchyintheusa go for it

  • @MrAnarchyintheusa s'fine, just a silly comment I find amusing enough to lightly defend. not like i wrote it.

  • @TikTakSambo it's cool, i'm just glad someone is that passionate about this lovely lovely collective in which to compare them to an act that was that influential on the music following it, actually looking at it that way makes a lot more sense then i would have imagined, i guess that in a weird way they are today's beatles (another similarity is how both bands were able to successfully re-invent themselves in a way that kept their old fans and introduced them to a new style:) it's cool

  • @MrAnarchyintheusa noticed you favorited kalise by el guincho. alegranza is what got me to start listening to animal collective. it's a fantastic album

  • @TikTakSambo you said it, my friend got me into animal collective which got me into avey tare which got me into panda bear which got me into el guincho (which got me into battles)

i'd have to say i like ac a bit more than el guincho (due to animal collective's songwriting ability) but i would definitely agree that el guincho is a better looper, his hooks are mesmerizing, especially on songs like antillas and kalise

  • I love videos!

  • They're still great in different ways!

  • Their sound has something in common.

  • AC are awesome!

  • Fatcat Records.

  • The bassist is the new bassist.

  • Animal Collective "Brighton Festival" Fatcat Records

  • meses tem se divertido

  • occurance as well. however your profanity makes you seem less credible

  • Bloo Is The Best!!

  • I don't like 91ooo.

  • VALEN MIERDA= shit

  • can't stop watching this video. i did a cover of winters love on also

  • open F

  • open F

  • swimming

  • Wow, they look really ridiculous at the beginning, but I absolutely love this.

  • I think it might be in open D tuning

    D-A-D-F#-A-D

  • I never thought primal chants would be so entertaining. I love AC.

  • when they break out into baby day i think i cried a little with happiness.

  • i love that they played "baby day"!

  • i can't tell what tuning he's in but the main part of the song can be played F Am C Dm F C F

  • i love the music these two men make more than anybody will ever understand. and this video is simply amazing.

  • I think I understand.:)

  • pretty damn cool... i'm hoping to drop acid and see them in september. Animal Collective is awesome

  • How do they never fucking pass out in exhaustion? I need them in my bed.

  • best video i've seen of my all time fav AC song... perfection.

  • Does anybody know what tuning Panda Bear is in?

  • Fantastic, For all of you that say, "oh I love the stuidio version, but this perfomrance sucks..." Normally i wouldnt be like this, but seriously shut up. They did a great performance, of what THEY like to do, yeah they are really into it, yeah they get a little silly, I think its awesome. If theyre jamming to itm, Im jamming to it. I have yet to find an AC / Panda bear/ Panda+Avey video that wasnt good on their end. Personally, and im sure others agree this was a very cool performance they did.

  • can't agree more!

  • fuck yeah. whats the name of this song?

  • its Winter's Love off of Sung Tongs, just with a lot of "wahh, wa wah wah wah uh uh" vocals to it. completely awesome!!

  • I love Animal Collective, and this sounded really cool, but I also lol'd very very very hard.

  • such a good song

    got to love pretty harmony

and the balls they have to play such a different song live

  • have you people even heard winter's love? this is a great performance of it. part of me wonders if all you detractors who claim to like this band have heard anything other than FEELS. i just don't understand what people have against this. either you love AC or you hate em, i guess.

  • well, you don't actually have to respect someone for being "that into it"... but you could admire them. though i'd giggle at you, because this was plain silly and indulgent. it's almost unfortunate for the band that their production on their studio material is so damn solid and well done, because the live videos i've seen of them always fall slightly short of recordings.

  • You're pretty into yourself, huh? People can respect whomever they choose to respect and can do so for whatever reasons. I'm giggling at your comment because it's silly and indulgent of you to actually think that anyone gives a shit about what you think. It's unfortunate that even if a band openly admits they don't really care what other people think, other people still find it necessary to give their opinion. It's also unfortunate that you've fallen short and missed the point. Keep on giggling!

  • you've got a message. But I respect you for being so into youtube comments. I have to, right?

  • I'm supposed to go see them in concert on May 20th...but this particular video has me a little worried. Wow...

  • anyone who gets that into something, you have to respect. i doubt Avey Tare and Panda Bear care what you think. they love what they do, and they show it.

  • you probably wouldnt like hollinndagain

  • revolutionary

  • if i hadn't heard of the AC and walked in on this I would be like 'wtf'.

    good stuff. thanks!

  • Chanmé

  • incredible.

  • 'winter's love' - one of my favorite AC songs.
