....actually, quite informative and entertaining video. Just in case you play trumpet or another brass instrument, I think you might find some trumpet and brass tutorials quite intriguing over at YOURBRASSINSTRUCTOR's Channel.
I got the chance to play with Bruce in my HS jazz band a few years back....SOOO GOOOD. He did stuff with that sax that just put the rest of us in awe. We actually forgot to come back in because we were all absolutely stunned
Hey Bruce... count off slower? Could it be a little left over from the "higher, louder, faster" days with MF? Looks like Woody was enjoying it, and Dennis and Birch hung on at the 2:37 mark. And heck of a band is an understatement!!
Thank you for the enjoyment of listening to your music.
@beejay4082 When I first hear you on Stay Loose with Bruce I actively sought out all of your recordings (I have both New York Mary LPs) I was thrilled to meet you when you came to Toronto with Menza years later. I'd love to catch you some time when I'm in Buffalo or hear you again in Toronto.
Very nice, indeed. I also really have always liked this tune, as well as Bruce's playing. Other musicians I recognize in the band: John Riley on drums, Frank Tiberi, Gary Anderson and Joe Lovano on tenor saxes and Bill Byrne on trumpet.
Bruce Johnstone, without a doubt, is the best big band bari soloist I've yet to hear, AND Woody's has always been my favorite big band - mostly because I just loved seeing how nice Woody always was (saw him 3x in concert in FL, in the 70s-80s) to both his band and all of his adoring fans. He used lots of young adult musicians in the band, but would invariably hire a few excellent soloists. His 3 best soloists, in '78, are featured here, to great effect!
Great writing. Great playing...What a joy...

Thanks for posting this. Joe Curiale's arrangement.
If I had a do-over I would have counted it off a bit slower.
Heck of a band.
