The best era for class. The 60's put everything today to shame, not just cars, but clothing, architecture, just style in general. It seems we all want to re capture the "coolness" of the past, but that will forever be locked into that Century.
@rever65 You are so right. These 2000 years are so watered down and generic. Like - what are these fuckers problems?? Loosen up! Read your histrory books and get real and endogenous.
if gm made cars like this they wouldnot be in trouble.i know its a gas hog but some can aford it. we are far from running out of fuel.they just want us to belive it like it was said in the early 70s we will be out of fuel by the 80s. its all greed
Had a '67 which was almost identical styling-wise, a truly beautiful car...although it had the improved 430 cube V8, rather than the old nailhead V8 which every Buick had from 1953 to 1966. Got a wonderful 11 mpg in the city and maybe 15 highway, but then again it also had a 145 mph speedo, and I once succeeded in pinning it on a flat stretch of Interstate 81 a little south of Syracuse (I was late for work--but made it on time). Amazing what 360 horses will do...
@BobWXXI I grew up in Syr as well. I passed up a flawless one-owner 67 Riveria GS for $8500 about 5 yrs ago here in Los Angeles....will regret it for life.
@BobWXXI 11 mpg? A Cadillacx 8.2 L in stock form gets better than that. You need to do some tuining and use some moden engine management electronics in your Nailhead. My Dad said his '55 Special was the "most economical car" he owned, consistently getting more than 22 mpg in the City.
@caleb6868 BEAUTIFUL car but yeah, the first thing I thought of was the 'Top Gear' segment where the crew was squeezing through a medieval Italian town in cars that are compact today.
What a racist commercial huh? Yea..... those Italian's really like the Riviera huh? They may as well say the Italian's like those meat balls and parmesan cheese too huh? I'm gonna call Obama about this. He needs to bring fairness, social justice and redistribution of wealth to GM and the American capitalist pigs who made this commercial!
@oooowwwwdddd . I don't have a " GIANT" house. I do have one that I paid off. No house payment, No car or truck payment and money saved, unlike your broke ass. LOL
@TheLizardKing1967: LOL, you fail even worse than he does. Maybe you should go back to making out with your sister, cousin, whatever, and leave the rest of us alone.
Awesome, my very Italian father owned this very car, bought out of the showroom new. I always remember the speedometer on it-it rolled like a dial-very much like what you would see on a boat, and given its size, it was appropriate. It wasn't a cheap car when it was new either. I miss that thing.
if your love needs 8 mpg its no problems, its give back great power and sound you now. And a great ride in a big size car is sweet. Have one myself, done 93k mils now and are still a dream to drive ;)
yes, i only get 8 mpg, for now. My carb are 42 years old, and i think the owner befor me dont havent take a service on the carb sins the 70's or something hehehe well, a already have got a new carb so to the spring a got a mutch better mpg ;)
Sounds good. My 66 Skylark GS has a 2-speed transmission. So, I never got good mpg on the freeway. But, I know have a 3-speed switch-pitch that I will soon put in it to help with the higher speed mpg.
Basically, yes. The Buick version is called a Super Turbine 400. It is a switch-pitch model. I believe the extra welding on the torque converter means it is. That is what I heard. It comes out of a 1965 Electra that had a blown cylinder.
The variable pitch feature is controlled electronically by a solenoid in the transmission. When 12V is applied, the vanes in the torque converter shift angles.
There are two 12V terminals on the outside of the transmission, on the drivers side, one for the kickdown, and one for the torque converter.
Right, this is certainly one of those. I guess if a car has a stator detent switch on the throttle linkage it would have to be a variable-pitch transmission, too. I really expect it to help with the mpg. I think I will put a b&m kit in it. I have seen too many rebuilt and bored-out engines destroying old transmissions because they take it from being worn.
I love it! I've never seen this commercial. My first car was a light green 66 Riviera with a black vinyl top. It was sweeeeet. I do miss many things about that car but not the 8 mpg.
Rivieras were always beautiful and always stood out from the crowd. Beuatiful car.

Back when American cars were the best looking cars in the world, and Buicks were the best looking American cars.
That all ended around 1972, btw. Since then, American cars have been mostly shit.

Apply 12V to the terminals. You should hear a "click" from inside the transmission when you apply 12V.
