  • I could pass a mclaren f1 in my honda CRV if it turned into pit lane too.

  • Go LOLA!!

  • ahhhh! Beautiful!! I just get energy from this video...

  • My D i ck gets hard everytime i hear Porsche like this.917 Rules.

  • @koolbossjock : it's a 908.

  • Lovely vid, that Lola looked a bit skittish on the corners given that it wasn't being pushed that hard.

  • Amazing sounds....I love these cars. Nowadays cars lack of "soul", compared to these beauties.

  • wtf ? 2:53

  • You know what the problem is, sentimentality! We loose a driver we water down the sport, dont let them go too fast, blah blah blah. I want the fucking chicanes on the Mulsanne removed, I want 5 and 7 liter engines back. I dont fucking care if your goddamn ankles are out in front of the wheels, you are a professional, thats what you cocksuckers get paid for! Quit whinning, drive the fucking cars, or just stop racing altogether. Ya ever wonder why some of us quit going to the races?????

  • The car he passed near the end was a T160-T170. The T70 was a "spider". But it looks like the car being driven was the coupe version of the 908/2.. Used to own a t70 & 908 coupe. The 908 coupe always was a sexy lil beastie. & grand prix came out in '66,LeMans in '70...& chicanes are for wussies!

  • Great video! Thanks for posting this, I never realized they still raced the classic cars there. I will have to someday make it to this event.

  • gobsmacked

  • I also have to say the sounds of these cars are just simply..... well BAD ASS... today the cars dont come close.. Although the V12's of the Aston's and the Murcialago sound great, as well as the Roar of the V8's "Corvettes" it still does not really come close to these classics.... truly classic.

  • Wow, 5:00+ lap times...unless this is an out lap, they're not exactly hustling these things around are they. Interesting how loud the little 2-litre, 4-cylinder Lola(?) is compared to the 3-litre flat-8 in the Porsche.

  • 2 litre 4 cylinder?! The T70 was build for the Chevy V8 and they ran with anything from a 5 litre up to a 6 litre (which ran at Le Mans in 1967) Aston Martin later ran one with a twin-cam V8. They never ran with a 2 litre.

  • Damn, what a shame they put in those 2 chicanes on the straight. That's like having sex with a rubber on.

  • @OjaiRoy I know.. total shame.. but the Racing board, whoever makes the decisions.. I think back in the 70's....I think said you cant have a straight longer than 2 or 3 miles now.... They just need more downforce... LOL

  • @JuergenGDB

I remember when they put the chicanes in and it was because the cars started reaching very high speeds so they wanted to slow them down.

Have you seen the excellent 1968 movie "Le Mans" starring Steve McQueen?

  • @OjaiRoy oh yeah... any car guy owns it. :) Not to mention Grand Prix.. the old school one. Sad that they cant create a modern go fast film.... LOL Fast and furious just does not cut it. Legends is good to netflix.

  • Seems like it needs another gear on the straights.... like its running out of puff!

  • The camera is in the Lola T-70, that's a small block chevy sound and the windshield and fender all say T-70.

Others have posted the same video as a T-70.

    J.C.

  • @375GTB

    yep tend to agree

Once saw {heard whew} Vern Shuppan at Rennesport 2004 drive his 956 and blew everyone off the track, even Geoff Brab's IMSA Nissan, and Busbsy's March, wondeful to hear and see them

  • Oh I forgot this guy was pretty impressive at Indy too.

  • Yes I forgot he had a drive there, and did fairly well.

    I write often to Jurgen Barth who won Le Mans in a Porsche 936 in 1977, he still races historicaly and is a true gent, David Piper still cracks on driving his green 917 and is fit still as well:-}

Great drivers Can-AM, IMSA was a fantastic time too, but I miss Group 5/6/C and C2

  • the driver is veeery smooth with the engine especially when downshifting ! could go much faster...

  • @maladsyko

I agree his shifting is very nice, I always now I compare shifting gears with the classic Jurgen Barth 936 -1977 Le Mans onboard though U-Tube, .wonder who is driving this though

  • 908/3 uber alles!!

As expected, it just runs of and hides....

    jcarroll330P4@

  • cool vid, and looked like a 917 running on the track as well.....awesome.

  • Love the sound of the engine on those downshifts Fantastic vid. 5 stars. THX for posting!

  • Fantastic.

  • just love it ..10+

  • I wish my Skoda sounded like this! I am a Classic Le Mans devotee and it's a toss up between the Lolas and the Iso Grifos/Bizzarinis as to who makes the most glorious sound. Marvellous stuff.

  • thats bull shit that they use the chicanes for vintage racing.

  • I would cut off the chivanes for all the races there if i could

  • that Lola seems a bit of a boneshaker eh ? surprised nothing fell off ! top vid tho`.

  • I want to download this and put it on my Ipod

  • love it unbelivebal vid. 5 stars thank you for sharing.

  • porsche rules Le Mans ! I wish they`d spend some of that money they`re earning and kick the shit out of these boring characterless diesels that are dominating lately.

  • Spot on, I agree, I wish Silver Arrows and Porsch's were back, along with Toyata ?} but glad Aston and Dome are back

  • @lyndonlongden Bring back the fucking 917!!!!!

  • @lyndonlongden

regarding the Peugeot - yeah, no match for those cars other than reliability which Audi had in 2010 - was hoping Penske or other Porsche Spyder privateers would been able to move to LMP1 and run as hard or harder than the Aston Martin boys, but just wasn't to be. Love the new regulations for 2011 - all engines knocked down a toke in size - recall 2005 race - power to the fastest and most reliable!

that 217 is ridiculous! 210 should be max this year!

  • @lyndonlongden

Don't you think Porsche should also develop a Diesel engine, and beat those guys at their own game?..

I bet Porsche would come up with something very different, like a V12 like the old 917,but then with small capacity per cilinder,to get higher revs, with high turbo pressure or something like that..

  • @lyndonlongden I wish but the rules of Le Mans seems to promote diesels and make petrol cars slower.

  • Wow / those have been the years !!!

  • Glorious stuff, T70Mk3B's have a 302 (or 289) with about 490 brake onboard. Those 3 litres are seriously quick though.

  • I'm stupid.

I thought I saw a race.... going on..

and then there was no race because one car came into the picture and disappeared in a second.

    what was that?

  • You dont see Lola Cars on the road cos they aint a road car manufacturer ya numty!!! The Lola t70 in its day could eat anything with the right driver in it it is the most iconic Le Mans car of the 60's and 70's you fools!

  • And here are just some of the great drivers of them::Amon,Andretti,Bonnier, Gurney,Donahue,Foyt,Paul Hawkins,Hobbs,Marko,Ronnie Peterson Surtees,Redman,Pilette,Regazzoni Jones Peter revson,Jo Siffert,Strommelen and ther were so many more

  • what is an astom?

  • You must be kiidin" mate - bzy the sport journalists in the UK the PORSCHE 917 has been overwhelmingly benn declared the most iconic sports car ever - which won numerous time at Le Mans - outplacing the Lola T 70 by far - which isn't so fast as it looks - it was inferior to the Porsche 908/917 etc. Armada in the 70s and late 60s - that's undeniable facts!

  • Flat 8 FTW

  • Beautiful cars and sound - proper sports cars!!

  • the evil porsche ate that poor little lola up!

  • ...with half the displacement under the hood=

  • wrong!

the lola was a 5 litre V8 (about 450bhp), and the porsche a 5.4 litre flat 12 (power varied from 500 to 1100 bhp)...

  • 908 originally was a 3000 cc - 8cyl.

as far as I can see the overtaking car is a 908 short tail - the 5,4 engine was used in Can Am at the time, and was inserted in a basically 917 chassis properly enhanced -

I dont think Pprsche ever inserted the 5400 engine in a 908 chassis =

  • yes idd, you are right!

I judged too soon, it is indeed a 908, but with that gulf color layout i thought it was a 917

908 has idd got the 3 litre

  • Looking carefully it's a 908 / 03 -

the lightest sport proto 3000 ever built which was usually racing underweight too!

Porsche built it for slow circuits with no long straights - with just a realiable 350/380 hp engine, but only 500 Kg.weight (even 450)this car was really fast even among the big sport 5000 = Fast and dangerous car =

  • Loved winning the Targa Florio as well Vic Elford loved it and the 917

  • you cant make a car sound better than this. bloody amazing!

  • One of the best Videos on the internet, what a incredible sound. I want a high resolution version. Anybody know how to contact the driver/ Owner?

  • "Watch out for the red lola!" - Steve McQueen

  • damn, what a vid!

  • It was "Good Time", I miss the red ;-)

  • woah ! What a noise ! Porsche Power.

  • stunning - i'm going to trade in my riley for a T70

  • thank for the turn in this dram car chasing other dream cars !

  • That has to be one of the best vids ever. Really bring you back to the old world sports car championship!!!

Wish Mulsanne was the same though!

  • what a beautiful noise!!!

  • Beautiful

  • Roar of the beast! Love it.

  • Very nice video.
