  • So, this doctor had an electron microscope in 1919? It's the only way to see a virus, and had not been invented until 1931.

Flu virus wasn't discovered (at least by mainstream medicine) until 1930.

If onions cause virus to propagate through the air, don't you think that making your virus airborne would be irresponsible during an epidemic?

  • I can't tell if the person who posted that description is trying to troll people into making their homes and workplaces smell like onions, or just an imbecile.

  • A misuse of the word "immunity". You cannot be immune to something you have not been exposed to. You may be resistant to the illness, but not immune. Note the carefully chosen words "which could aid the fight against the flu".

An onion in a bowl cannot "filter out germs" unless all the air in the room is passed through the onion. Come on, please use a little common sense here and some rational thinking. Read the words and stop making logical leaps.

  • my favorit song of the week :)

  • hi miss food like this kept me alive where the medical doctors said i was dead in a few months im still heresince 1999 god bless***********************S

  • hemp oil! look into it

  • I take Flaxseed oil which is similar. Didn't take it for flu. Found that it made my skin very smooth so it is doing something.

Took quercetin for another condition and found that this lessened the time period that I suffer from hay fever significantly.

Also found that I don't suffer much with colds and flu.

Quercetin is found in the red onions and other foods as mentioned in the article.

  • @SuperOrangerose think ill give flaxseed oil a try. not sure whats going on with my body lately im sure im lacking something.. depression and mood swings, general lack of modivation and energy, skins breaking out, hair and nails growing quite slowly, lost some weight and cant get it back no matter how much i eat. very strange symptoms which all got a lot more severe recently (in the past month)

not easy to get a doctor to listen to this- it wont kill me so its a waste of time to them.

  • Problem is sometimes doctors treat the symptoms rather than the cause.

You could try a combination of fish oil, flaxseed oil and starflower oil. Health shops sell combinations of the omega oils.

For hair and nails, silica can be helpful.

For moods swings the omegas should help however trying to keep your blood sugar level will also help.

Try foods that are low in GI. This stops sudden rises and falls in blood sugar.

A sudden fall in blood sugar can make you feel panicky.

    .

  • @SuperOrangerose any ideas on the weight issues? iv had trouble putting on weight for my whole life but its much worse now.. if i dont eat right for a few days i lose weight fast and it can take a month to get back. i have basicly no body fat but i eat normal foods.

blood sugar is something i know i have problems with, if i dont eat throughout the day i get weak and my hands start to shake.

iv been taking fish oil i can feel the difference when i take it, hoping flaxseed will help more

  • I would have my thyroid function checked. You could have an overactive thyroid or you make just have a very fast metabolism.

I would certainly mention the weight loss to the doctor. He/she should do a thyroid test.

I think that a combination of fish oil, starflower oil and flaxseed would be helpful as the three oils contain different nutrients.

You can buy linseeds and sprinkle them on breakfast serial.

Sounds as if when your hands shake your blood sugar may be low.

    Continued

  • @SuperOrangerose i had a blood test a few months back and thyroid was checked and came back ok. he doesnt seem interested in looking into it anymore. it definitely isnt normal to be this underweight though, iv never met anyone with problem of eating but not gaining weight- everyone just thinks i dont eat enough.

  • Continued from recent post.

Sudden falls in blood sugar levels can cause a rush of adrenaline which may make you feel panicky.

GI foods sustain for longer and stop cravings for sweet sugary snacks.

I have known people who have been prescribed anti-depressants for panic attacks when really all they needed was to maintain a more balanced blood sugar level.

Not trying to preach. I hope that it helps.

  • @SuperOrangerose does help, i value the advice! what are some examples of GI foods?

  • Low GI foods are foods that are slowly released such as whole grains and oats.

High GI foods are released quickly and usually are high in sugar. These foods will send your blood sugar high and then there will be a sudden fall.

Porridge is a good breakfast or a wholegrain cereal that does not have a high sugar content.

You will find lists of foods on the internet and Anthony Worrall Thompson has written a recipe book based on the principle.

  • I have tried to include a link to GI foods on a message but the system would not allow it.

If you google GI foods you will find sites that list the foods with their GI index.

You don't need to the GI diet to lose weight but need to include low GI foods to manage blood sugar. Nuts would be good snacks as they contain good fats and are low GI.

I buy Nairn's oatcakes which I snack on if I feel hungry.

  • I am completeing my Tamiflu treatment right now.

Nothing wrong with eating healthy. Just wish both sides of to vax or not would stop bullying eachother. Let people do what they feel they need to do. My son got vaccinated, no side effects and he's the only one here who didn't get h1n1. We do eat healthy.

  • The article that appeared on the Sunday Mercury website was really in response to the over prescribing of Tamiflu.

This has now resulted in Tamiflu resistant strains of flu. Some doctors predicted that this would happen.

I believe that conventional and alternative medicines can work together side by side but sometimes conventional medicine is over prescribed and the body does not build up it's own immunity. If at a later date antivirals are really needed they are ineffective.

  • Why doesn't Barry Hussein Soetoro and the commie-loving media tell us that the regular flu kills an average of 35,000 people a year?

  • What we do know: Onions are high in quercitin which promotes heart health. They are also high in beta-carotene and chromium. It is a very healthy food to eat. Putting slices in your socks or in your room does not do anything. Proven is the word you were looking for. I believe that there are ancient remedies and new homeopathic methods that work. Most of them, though, are just blurted out and repeated by people with no scientific review. Some are even harmful

  • Google this headline ...

Moldovan soldiers given onions to fight swine flu

  • I know eating garlic and onions, when eaten, have great medicinal properties. I believe that. Cutting them and putting them in your socks or in your room is ABSOLUTELY ineffective. Thats all Im saying. Any Homeopathic method should be tested using the scientific method. I am progressive;however, I demand standards and attention to fact. If we do that we dont look as flakey.

  • As far as this quaint anecdotal story about the doctor. If you put a crystal in your window and then dont get a cold all year, that does not prove that the crystal prevented your cold. There are herbs and foods with proven health benefits;however, this one is not true. Putting onions in your room will make your room smell like onion . It may ward off other humans which could reduce your risk of getting sick.

  • MSDS=Material Safety Data Sheet

An MSDS is a great place to look for side effects or potential effects of prescription drugs.

Tamiflu/Oseltamivir for example can be found at, drugbank

There you can see the potential "RISK's".........STERILIZATION!!!!!!!!To say the least!!!

MSDS.........USE THEM TO HELP FIND TRUTH!!!FOR YOUR SAFETY!!!!!

  • There are more recipes using red onions to post onto the blogspot and myspace but I am unsure if anyone can access the blogs by a google search.

I think that I will have to set up my own website.

Red onions are certainly things of beauty in more ways than one.

  • If you already have the flu or any other infectious disease what you can also do is to cut an onion in half and put it next to your bed when you go to sleep. Works like antibiotic.

  • No it doesnt. There is no mechanism in Flu virus that would draw it to the onion. There is so much wrong with this story I dont know where to start. I would suggest that you start by studying science and the scientific method of proving theory.

  • @specifictender - Onions contain powerful antioxidants and are anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and antiviral.

My and my friends way of proving this theory was by testing when needed and it has always proofen to be very effective. If you don't want to use it that is up to you.

  • The recipe for the onion soup is on the Sunday Mercury Website.

It is also on blogspot and myspace under the heading of "Recipes to combat Swine Flu and Seasonal Flu.
