By the time the US forces came in the Soviets had already done most of the work. 400.000 US military deaths vs 8.000.000 soviet military deaths. 1.700 non military US deaths vs 10.000.000 non military soviet deaths. 13% of the Soviet Russian population died in that war. USA did play a significant role standing against the Japanese.
