I play without xpacs and usually turn tech trading off so I can get ahead of everyone by 1 or 2 eras and the end of the game and get the conquest victory with my tanks on cheiftain. Financial is a must for best tech growth because commerce=research.
TheMeInTeam, I love your playstyle. :D It's epic. I play in a much more general, stereotypical way. I try to do most of everything by the book, deviating from the established course every now and then. You deviate from the "normal" style of play in every video of yours that I have watched. And I love it and that's why I keep watching them. :D Keep it up, Civ Gamer :D
wait, the cities you capture from alexander don't go under resistance, when i play regular civ 4 they all go under resistance. does that mean there's an option or is it just already there
Civ is a strange beast. Within a certain range, maps are winnable but the RNG can make it easier or harder. In extreme cases on immortal +, a bad RNG roll can kill your chances entirely, though it's not like that happens every game.
when i use to play civilization i use to build a single city for the time and get boats to find my self a smaller continent so i could get away from the conflict in return i get much stronger with out being disturbed
The AI have equal stats as the player on noble difficulty, anything above that has cheating AI that start with more units. On deity, they start with 2 settlers.
They also pay <50% cost on units/buildings on deity after an era bonus or two. Beware, however, that even on noble the AI has some advantages over the player, such as upgrade costs.
am i the only one who likes being Stalin? it just seems that whenever i play online or talk to people, people always say hes crap, but he suits my style
Wow, I now know your true identity, Kim Jong Ill. Kill off your population because you don't want the unhappiness. No doubt Kim Ill Sung was trying to culture pop by building a huge number of monuments too.
Yes mate you can, There is a pasifist , way in religion also. But you need strong diplomacy, by able to say no, in civics, demands of others. And always prepare for war!
Yeah, easily. I go for the "Space Victory" every time. It does help to capture some of there cities in the middle of the game, just to expand your civilization and get enough researchers and resources and stuff. But you can also take their cities with culture and religion in Civ IV, though it takes more effort.
You can but its really hard. I'd recommend at least killing one civ for some land space and so you have less chance of pissing someone off and getting in a huge war. To keep the peace, you will have to sacrifice all the good techs for useless one.But it's possible.
Cool Video!you had very smart techneks. But what I would have done is make an alliance with every one, build up my technology, then break the alliances and blow them AAALLLL up!! HAHAHAHAHAH!!
I'm new at this game and I'm already loving it but I'm really having difficulties with deciding what to research and stuff like that. What is the best and quickest way to learn the basics?
Also can you just put the workers on automatic from the start or do you need to be more careful about what you want them to do?
Worker micro is pretty important, I automate to save time but I'm used to their flaws and work around them (in later videos I try to explain my logic for this). The best place to pick up details for this game is civilization fanatics forum ---> probably the best forum I've ever been a part of, with lots of high skill and very little harassment/disregard for newer players.
With pyramids, you get all of the goverment civics, and you really need herditary rule to keep your people happy and build units and buildings faster, and remember, you want to be allies with isabella in case montezuma declares war on you. But thats from a warmonger's opinion
I don't know if you notice it (writing before veiwing), but at the beginning Isabella seems willing to trade you Hunting for Mining.
Might not be the best trade, but it would have helped build stronger diplomatic relations (important if you want her to help you, or make better trades, later on).
I have to agree on TheMeinTeam on this one, wonders are great if you can afford the loss of time and land due to having a warmonger civ surrounding your land area and preventing you from expanding or simply crushing you. The only alternative is to grovel at his/her feet and be nice to him or her and try to expand by culture which is really very hard to do at early levels.
It's nice, but you have to evaluate its opportunity cost. For example, if you build it on some starts on immortal, the AI will settle 1-2 city sites that you could have settled. If it's going to be like that, I'll just build the monuments.
don't like your stil of playing. with stone nearby you should build wonders first, especially the pyramides cause then first great person will be a engineer.
don't like your styl of playing. with stone nearby you should build wonders first, esecially the pyramides cause then first great person will be ingeneur.
1. Pyramids don't offer protection from Alex/Monty, both of which are nearby.
2. What's great about an engineer? A scientist for academy/bulbing is usually competitive with that. Pyramids are overrated in general...there's other ways to get research than going into rep.
If you want to compete consistently at the highest levels, early war vs wonders is a choice, you can't do both.
I'd rather not sink the hammer equivalent of several settlers into getting a wonder like pyramids unless the land loss from doing it is minimal. Surrounded by warmonger AIs, pyramids first on this map is absolutely the wrong choice. Sure, since this game is only monarch it can be done, but it's still wrong. For certain.

@Stillalive49 In the later games in my let's plays, you'll see me gain significant tech leads over all AIs on immortal w/o any economic traits :).
The AI in this game really doesn't do well unless its bonuses are quite obscene. One of my long-time gripes is that it doesn't try usually heh.

Why does the game always recommend building roads on river tiles?
In other words what does that do?

I always like getting stonehenge because if your civilization is not creative you do not have to worry about building monuments in every new city.

with an engineer you can build a wonder in one turn. for example the great library then maybe next person >>> great scientist.
usually you have time enough to build the first wonders before first attack especially with stone.
and with stone you might have build stonehenge in4turns,then great person would have been a prophet. and thats how you get your own religion.
i prefer cultural and technical dominance then with more advanced units i take them out.but that way you have to settle more
