This guy never played for the song. I don't know but imagine thats why they they fired him. All the 'jazzing' it's acually easyer to do then keep it solid and play the song. This guys playing would piss anybody off after a while. I dont rate him at all for the reason I've been playing drums for 20 years and know how to be in the song. This guy faffed around with splash cymbals, perfect if your playing 'Sting' type stuff but not rock and roll. Matt Cameron is soo much more a present drummer.
To say one PJ drummer is better than the next is tough. Abbruzzese's main ability is to play his cymbals louder and faster and then slow down. its magical. Cameron however is more apt to play his toms and other drums. The switch is important i think. Pearl jam moving out of their arena phase was a conscious decision. I think they made the right move when i listen to their new stuff but i do miss this.
Somebody can´t say than Pearl Jam would make No Code or Binaural with Dave on the drums? Because i believed that every drummer in PJ makes his own contribution, and with this sight, so is pointless to say if one is better than other
Han... dave wasnt fired only for how he played drums... overplayed, yes, but full of soul, technique and joy... he had serius problems with vedder... and vedder, i have a theory, has the last opnion on the band...
Songs like Evenflow and Animal have never sounded right without Dave. Jack and Matt play it with groove what so ever. This is how the song should be played.
I love both Jack and Matt, mind you. They're awesome each in their own way. But for this song, Dave's the man.

Yeah, absolutely man! Pearl Jam are one of my favourite bands, and I'd like to think I have a pretty open mind, and am understanding of others' opinions (to the point of well, not "thumbs downing" youtube comments so as to 'shush' the completely subjective opinions of others like many here apparently have done). However, I truly don't understand why so many are blown away by Dave. I'm sure he's a nice guy and all, but without really knowing first hand, I feel like I can understand why...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
...why they fired his ass. I bet he was a tad too pretentious, and lacking in a certain kind of creative direction that the rest of the band was evidently after. Fact: Irons WAS a positive change for the band. The band has said this. I don't think he's necessarily more "tight" than Dave (certainly not more than Matt Cameron). It's subtle, but 15 years of playing percussion - in my experience anyway - has led me to feel this way. Irons' style is unique and groovin'.

Have you heard his solo album? I love his take on Shine On You Crazy Diamond. Are you familiar with Les Claypool? If you like Pink Floyd at all, you should really really really really really cheque out (first, Les' music in general), but specifically his Fearless Flying Frog Brigade. Buy/pirate in FLAC their "Live Frogs" discs (1 and 2). SOYCD is my favourite cover done by ANY band, period. Anyhoo. Cheers/take care!
@pcboxtox you have no idea, they are completely different drummers, cameron never fitted with pearl Jam they are too striaght up for him, he is a really open drummer and a master of double strokes and hi hat and cymbal control, Dave was just a solid Drummer nothing special...
@LManTehPwner I'm gonna take sides here with the vehement Dave A fans. I'm Team Cameron all the way except when it comes to PJ. You can dissect Matt and Dave's playing all you want, with PJ Dave just rocked, intensely.
I think that for fans, including me, DA embodies a more energized version of PJ that could have have been.
Had they gone down that road, I doubt they would still be around, though. I just wish there was more music from this era.
@pcboxtox are you retarded? go watch some soundgarden footage and look at the time signatures cameron plays in with them. I love Grohl, Abrruzzese and Cameron but come on bro that is a stupid comment on your part.
Met Dave the other day. . . he's touring with Stevie Salas in Europe right now! What a cool drummer - what a even cooler dude!!! Are there more vids like these???
Yeah, it was funny - he did all the talking. About his daughter, wife, having met Eddie recently . . . and I was still left jaw open because of his abilities on the drumset! What a nice guy!
He left because of differences apparantly, so unlikely he's coming back.... He wasn't someone the band could work well with. But you're absolutely right, he is a great drummer aye
But this song....this one Abbruzzese rules hands down. Whenever you hear Even Flow on the radio it's his version. And it's better than the original. He adds a lot of energy to it. I hope he is still successful.
they dont jump around as much now maybe cause they are aging..they are all well into there 40's prob washed out a little from the last 18yrs of touring
why the fuck pearl jam let go this drummer!!! his energy was so fucking great!
someone told me dave had some kind of problem with the intensity of his beats when playind drums and when eddie and the rest of the band wanted to start making some slow quiet songs they couldnt because of that. so thats why they fired him?
Listen to the unplugged and you will see what i talk about, DAVE almost steps over all instruments with his drums and plates hehe
oh yeah, love him, wish he was doing more now. very easy to watch. i heard he was kicked outta pj cause he was too much of a "rock star", shitty attitude. anyone know the truth??
@3notas Sorry I'm not buying it. Dave is a very dynamic drummer. He plays with brushes on "Nothingman" !! Vedder said he was to "rock" and had to many cymbals...bullshit.
@3notas he was great and shit but he had too many problems. alcohol was a big one. but he also cared too much about the money and being famous. at least thats what ive heard. and yeah he wanted to take over the music on the drums so they let him go cause of that. and i understand cause im a drummer and every drummer wants the drums to be louder, but they couldnt work together with him trying to be too loud. he was a fuckin beast tho and pearl jam sounded so good with him
hey gndcd402, part of the reason this may not be syncing right is because the audio in this clip in not correct. I'm fairly sure three even flows were done during this soundcheck and the dave video was filmed during the same performance in the mike/jeff cam video (you can see dave's cameraman in that one). Its really hard to notice the discrepancies since dave's such a consistent drummer, but i bet you'll have better luck with syncing if you use the correct audio.
