  • Ever since I found out what Dia de los Muertos is, my Halloween hasn't ended until after November 2nd!

  • Just Beautiful! Simplemente hermosa! Apenas bonito! Proprio bella! <3

  • Poetic death

  • Umm, I don't think the poem text is there in the notes under the video, although it's a good explanation besides. A great little mini-documentary on the subject! It's nice to see someone put real effort into a slideshow; I get so tired of 'music videos' on YT consisting of a single, unchanging slide or not much more. Well done!

  • I love your video. You are a great narrator. Yes, we are in America, and we can speak however we wish.

  • I live it. I got the chills

  • I keep coming back & back to look & listen to this clip, it's just so beautiful. Love it!

  • This clip's beautiful.I love Santa Muerte,Mexican culture and their approach to death.

  • @exeuroweenie hey man this not is la santa muerte, no confundas, en Mexico no celebramos la santa muerte, solo festejamos a nuestros fieles difuntos, estas son calaveras just that...xfa investiga un poco acerca de nuestra cultura... thank you!! and this video it's so good...I really like it!!

  • Nice, love this video...

  • Thank you for such a lovely, powerful, comforting piece. The poem, image, vouce, reading are all so strong. It helps me the way that the movie "Macario" helps me, and helped my dying sister. If only she could have seen this video. Well, maybe she is watching it with me now.

I will share it and watch it next Dia de los Muertos along with "Macario"

    Thank you!

  • Thanks for your comment. If you hit the expand button where it says photography by Carlos Puma and Poem by Olivia Garcia. The entire poem is there.

  • Where is the poem? That's just the description. This is really an amazin poem I HAVE to read it. Anyone a copy?

  • I'm glad you liked it. You can find the text right under the video.

    Good luck with your presentation.

  • This Riverside native sez thanks so much for posting this!

  • I love It ! I believe it takes a unique person with an open heart to understand the blending between english and spanish and what a poem I agree why ? amateur.

    Keep up your blessed work!

  • I edited a similar video with this person

  • Cuando se mezcla el Inglés con el Español o viceversa, no se si han notado que el Español sale gravemente perjudicado y se oye raro y feo.

  • Esa es your opinion. I'm Chicano and Proud. I use my culture as I see fit. You may speak or write anyway you desire.

The beauty of being an American is that I can speak and write as I choose. And, since I am Mexican-American I will continue to mix Spanish and English. That just the vida loca.

  • @photovato

We have to get rid of those damn Americans that are racist towards you guys.

You guys did not cause H1N1.

You were all framed for it.

I'm supposed to be Italian, American Indian, Irish, and German.

But I prefer to act and speak Spanish sometimes.

I'd rather be Mexican, British, Greek, and Irish.

Only 'cause they're the best cultures ever.

I am actually half Kryptonian and hald Gallifreyan so I am a TIme Lord.

  • @photovato I know its just weird and not accepted in Mexico, or anywhere by the way. In business meetings i mean. Honestly at home i speak both, but when i speak spanish in public people look weird @ me.especially w/ all the immigration fuss. nothing wrong with it in truth. just like putting your elbows on the table,it doesnt hurt anyone, but some people thinks its not proper etiquette.I guarantee you Japanese people dont like it if you mix it w Chinese, most wont like it :( but youtube is ok :D

  • @photovato spanglish is sexy! <3

  • @ProviderMR se debera que de la combinacion de dos idiomas nace un nuevo dialecto.,.quien sabe son mis ideas...XD

  • It's the first time that I hear a poem in english and which uses mexican words. It sounds amazing, weird but cool by the way.

Congratulations it was great. I know that sometimes is difficult to express happiness about the death, but you could do it!!

Some of mexican people, in towns more than other places, receive education for the death. That is what values in this tradition... it taught you the joy of the death and memories...

    Again, awesome work!!

  • I have never felt moved enough to even sigh up to comment. This is amazing in every way. photographs, video, the reading, the poem. I stumbled on this and plan on sharing it. It's beautiful gracias

  • cool man thanks

  • im sorry this the best vid thank you

    tom

  • Who wrote this incredibly touching poem,

    and who recites it.

    Did Olivia Garcia write it,

or only the notes that accompany it to the right.

It brings tears of joy and remembrance to my eyes.

    (YouTube contributors, all, please remember

to accredit art where it is due. I'd like to find other poems by this same author but can't without a name. Perhaps this is a well known poem, but unfortunately, not to me and probably to many others. Thank you.)

  • Hi there!

This is Olivia Garcia. Yes I wrote it. Sorry I don't have other poems posted online. Just an amateur poet.. Mainly a professional journalist but so glad you enjoyed it... I think of my passed loved ones everything I hear it and I am honored that my dear dear amigo Carlos Puma asked me to write this for his slide.

  • Brava, Olivia! With this poem you should remove "amateur" from your self-description. Keep writing! Carlos Puma's reading of it is sublime as well. Thank you!

  • Lovely...today I honor & remember my grandmother...

  • Deus abençoe Dia De Los Muertos, assim como a cultura mexicana! My association Ekxtaktika made 3 music events inspired by "Dia De Los Muertos". Thank you! There´s nothing compareD to American Halloween! Dia De Los Muertos is felt, it´s true, not another capitalist holyday, but a sincere tribute to yours/ours deads. God bless you all/Deus vos abençoe a todos!

  • Dia de los muertos, el calacas vio

    oh-oh-ohh

    Y el gringo se asusto

  • this beautiful video totally captures what dia de los muertos is all about. Fab.

  • oh yeah Dia de muertos is different than halloween.

  • judging from ure comment i can safely say that u are not mexican.lol, i like el dia de los muertos way more than halloween cause it it has to do in my opinion more w/ culture, tradion and respect to the departed. halloween is more like tradition, i dont even know why its celebrated in the first place knowing that halloween wanst even started here in the u.s.

  • Very nice! Excellent job on the make-up!!!

  • El dia de los muertos is NOTTTTTTTT Halloween.. In Mexico, this occasion is used to celebrate the "return of the souls of the departed to earth". On this day, relatives of the deceased go to the cementary to commune with the dead. So they take a picnic and visit the tombs of the departed. It is also customary to create shrines in honor of the dead. The shrines have candles, a Picture of the deceased and food that he or she enjoyed. Masses are performed in honor of those who have gone..

  • Very very nice.

  • For people that know FAITH is one of the biggest things that moves humanity.... for us this is so beautiul, faith is like water, necesary for man

  • im born at dia de los muertos but does that mean anything?

  • naah

  • I was born on El Día de los Muertos too.

  • It means your soul is well connected to the world of the living and the dead. You can reach both worlds within your soul.

  • This is wonderful

  • stunning!

  • Beautiful! Touched me to tears...

  • THIS IS AWESOME!

  • Great video, don´t forget your culture.

I really love "dia de muertos" is my favorite festival. I´m made in Michoacan. arriba el dia de muertos!!!

  • I love it

mi fiesta favorita!!!! my favorite festival

    I really love my culture!!

    and I´m made in Michoacan

  • Nice!

  • great video. I'm painting a longboard skateboard in commemoration of El Dia de los Muertos. Thanks for a video which reflects the feelings and sentiments of this special day.

  • Halloween has been commercialized (that is why we see Freddy Kruger running around) and demonized by very religious people. Originally it was a European folk holiday similar to Mexico's Day of the Dead. That is how I see it. I enjoy the fun parts of the holiday (movies, parties), then privately I remember the deceased persons who are important to me. I try to celebrate Halloween as it was meant to be originally.

  • well halloween was a celtic tradition in Ireland that is called Samhain, some area's there still celebrate the traditional way. but i get what you're saying, here in the states it's no longer about tradition or culture it became about money, which i hope dia de los muertos doens't end up like halloween

  • wow i love how they paint there faces it is like really cool!

  • Very touching video. You got me! Big lump in the throat. Good job...very well made video. This is what Halloween & the Day of the Dead is really about. Remembrance and loved ones, not monsters and devils.

  • actually Halloween is about monsters and devils, wile dia de los muertos is about celebrating de life of the deceased.

  • My intention when I posted my comment was to compliment photovato on his excellent video. I forgot that Halloween is controversial to many people. If I could write that comment again, I would leave out the mention of Halloween, and focus just on the video. Please don't forget that other people have different views about Halloween!

  • My fave Holiday. I love my culture.

  • LIFE IS BUT A DREAM BUT IN DEATH YOU TRULY BECOME AWAKE! Good video! Que viva la cultura!
