To those of you who can only reply by name calling, and accusations. Why is it that you can only reply to this Marine's concern for not only your welfare, but that of other human beings. Is he lying? A fake? Why would he express his concerns if they weren't genuine? Is he getting paid to do this? I don't think so. Where as a person towing the status quo would most likely be receiving some sort of material payment, his only payment is to satisfy his need for justice.

Although Cpl. Rick Reyes' testimony was 5 months ago, it made a great impact on me when i learned that my youngest daughter joined the Army National Guard. Whatever her reasons for doing so, I believed that if she knew of the testimony, she would have reconsidered her decision.

Why? Serving in uniform is a privilege, regardless of who sits in the White House calling the shots. Your attitude is that of the typical bleeding heart who blames the military for the bad decisions made by worthless asswipes like Bush. Your daughter will become a better person and citizen for having served in uniform, as do 99% of the people who have the honor of serving in the military. Reyes has a very unfortunate way of painting U.S. troops as the bad guys, and he is wrong for doing that.

I agree that we can't afford it if it goes on indefinitely. And the fact that I wasn't there doesn't automatically mean that my opinion has no value. I served long enough to know what I'm talking about, and I believe Reyes is not focusing his critique on the real culprits. He seems to be focusing it on the troops, and that's the wrong position to take. I'm not saying the troops are perfect or infallible by any means, but they're trying hard to carry out the mission they've been handed.

I agree w/ you. However I dont think CPL Reyes means to dishonor vets I think he just wanted to point out some of the ways they went about the war wrong. While serving in Iraq and Afghanistan I saw my fellow soldiers, who I love like brothers, treating the population in an ungenerous manner and I corrected it as best as I could. However our conduct was 95%professional to all. Serving has made me a better citizen and committed to never seeing someone like Bush in power ever again.

I dont think that its shameful or wrong to serve your country, on the contrary, although I regret the decisions made by horribel leaders like President Cheney and Vice President Bush (yeah, I said that right) and while I disagree w/ Iraq from the very start, serving my country has made me a better person and serving in Iraq and Afghanistan has given me a new outlook on life and the way we should run the nation. When you go to speak in front of congress, it's a good idea to know what you're talking about, hence the reading.
