SOME OTHER SUCKERS PARADE may have been an unfortunate album title but it's probably the best work from Del Amitri - well worth checking out for shimmering hooks and quality production.
Great song! I heard this 6 months ago in a grocery store (of all places) and only heard 'some girls' & 'where it's at' b/w overhead PA announcements. Couldn't find it based on that info... Heard it again 2days ago (in a dept store this time) and finally found it. Thanks for posting... Just an absolute top notch, first rate power pop song. I don't understand how a perfect pop tune like this isn't an instant hit. One of the catchiest, best written tunes I've heard in a very long time!!!
yep; this is my fave song by them; I think it's even better than' roll to me' which they were more famous for. This song has one of the best bridges in any song. ie "Don't have my finger on the pulse of my generation; just have my hand on my heart: I know no better location" And the tune to that bridge is awesome too. A bridge (for the few of you that may not know)... is the little song within the song that joins the two halves of it together; hence the name; the video was a bit strange though
There was a guy once who told me this was my song. I've never heard it until tonight. 01/16/09, He's gone now, but i'll always remember him. Cheers Dennis!
Justin Currie usually has a "Punch" of a refrain in his songs and this one is no exception: I DON'T HAVE MY FINGER ON THE PULSE OF MY GENERATION. I JUST HAVE MY HAND ON MY HEART AND KNOW NO BETTER LOCATION.
That is pure genius! Simple, but effective and brutally honest.
By the way, if there are people here who haven't bought Justin's new album, I strongly suggest you do so right now. To me, it is the album that 'Can You Do Me Good' should have been, even though Justin says that it wouldn't have worked as a Dels album.
I still love this band, and most of their songs. Justin has one of the best voices I've ever heard - it just sounds honest when he's singing.
I've done a version of the last to know on my page - comments always welcome. As long as they're good :D lol.
Del Amitri were always underrated in the UK and never got the Kudos they deserved (I think). But everyone knows at least a few of their songs which speaks volumes.
Yes he's a very good guitarist. Shame about the drummers though - apparently they (justin and Iain) kept sacking them and leaving them at filling stations. They went through a number of drummers ... or so the rumour goes. I wish Del Amitri would come back to us - I really really miss them.
id recommedn u listen to some of their albums if you get the stuff. the lead guy, Justin Currie, is very talented and all in they were a very underrated band. However, underrated usually means really good anyway
Thank you for posting this. Fell in love with this song in 2002 when I came across their top of the pops clip. I went out to tower records and purchased hat full of rain cd.
Man some people think The La's is the perfect power pop song. I think that this one by Justin and the boys is a good contender. Too bad the label wasn't behind it more (at least in America). Thanks for posting this!
If you love this song (and why wouldn't you) I have written a script for a musical using Del Amitri songs. You can see the script with the original songs, type "Jimmy Blue Blog Musical" into Google and follow the links. Even if you hate the script all the songs are this good.
Heard this song on a tape at Home Depot of all places. Can't ever remember a time when I just stopped in the middle of shopping to listen to a very very catchy tune! Thanks for the post.
(cont.) I never did hear that song again but it always stayed with me... and it's always bugged me, "Who WAS that?". The few words I had made out "Some girls..." and "...where it's at", I did a search on, but all that came up was the Rolling Stones (Del Amitri might have been in there, but I missed it). Till finally late late last night it was in my head again (10 years later, can you imagine) and I did another Google for fun...
(cont.) This time I noticed the Google "Advance Search" and how you could "exclude" some words. I searched again and "excluded" the Stones. Up came some lyrics for "Del Amitri" and "Not where its at". I read them... could this be it? It sure looked like it might be....
(cont.) Then I immediately searched for the song on Youtube. As soon as it started into the first verse, I knew. I must have listened to it about 20 times straight with a big grin on my face the whole time. Then I got the guitar out and figured the chords out for it - it's gonna be my next big hit song LOL. There's one of my life's little mysteries solved. THANKS for uploading this!
I can't find them anywhere and I'm not very good at figuring them out myself. I can figure out the leads and such just fine, but the chords confuse me.
Good8go8, we must be long lost twin brothers or something. 9 or 10 years ago I was walking through the Wal-Mart when this song came on over the intercom. I just froze and stood still and listened. Right after it was over, I grabbed the nearest Wal-Mart employee by the collar and asked "Who's playing your music? Where is the tape? Tell me! Tell me NOW!". He said it was just a satellite feed or something, there was no tape... (cont.)
Just another video I was never meant to understand, visually. (Fish falls off the wall) Still one of my favorite songs with it's harmonies and catchy guitar.
I heard it once in some obscure place like a grocers and knew I just loved this tune. Thanks for posting it.
me too thankfully justins solo stuff is pretty much the natural progression of this great band. I have put a cover of nothing ever happens up if anyone wants to kill 4 minutes.
I agree - Del Amitri were somehow denied the megastar status they deserved. They wrote some superb songs. I love the look on his face when the lady deputy turns round. I'd have done the same. Wheeeee-ew
