These songs are what were sorely missed on here! I am so glad that they were uploaded!!! This is classic Chaka! Chaka is what Divas aspire to be! South side of Chicago! Divas are born here! Let's hear it from my home girls! Chaka Khan, Michelle Obama, Jennifer Hudson, Minnie Ripperton....just to name a few!
the classic Rufus lineup: Bobby Watson, Tony Maiden, Kevin Murphy, Andre Fischer, Hawk Wolinski and of course, the effervescent Chaka Khan! I can only hope they get back together one day and tell us something good once again!!
Kevin Murphy's riveting acoustic piano intro, followed by Tony Maiden's absolutely gorgeous rhythm guitar, followed by that beautiful, powerful voice emanting from deep within the stunningly beautiful Chaka Jhan! What could be better?
Why, the song itself! So much meaning, a comment on the profoundly positive impact of a woman's love upon a man's ability to go and do what must be done. Kind of a 20th Century Danny Boy.

This lady & her group were the best. I was young but, I remember so well. Good music, good talent & good performing( on tv or on stage), just couldn't be beat. They still could hold it down today. Classic, pure good old classic.
Sexyrexsexy, I can understand you not knowning anything about this Classic Music from the 70's, and trying to compare it to some artist from today, you still having baby formula on your breath. Don't pretend you were joking, you know you were really serious. This kind of music is for ''Lover's Only''. Keep listening hopefully old day you'll get it. Lot's of Love, my young music fan.
this is one amazing lady i love her so much her songs are so powerful they move me in such a way that it brings tears to my eyes keep posting thanks so much
I drove about 50 miles from Cleveland (Glenville) to Kent State U. in the fall of 74. I got so much action playin this album on my stereo in my dorm that I even amazed myself! This IS truly her best project! I miss music like this so badly. Real music, real instruments, real raw talent. I have so many fond memories from this musical era. Natalie Wester, we loved each other desperately and I will never stop loving you Babe...I know, I'm stuck! Dear God, what a great place to be stranded. L.H.W.
i was born in 1969 and i have every rufus and chaka album on CD except their debut and this album along with "ask rufus" . i also had camoflauge on vinyl. it's an album they as well as most fan would like to forget. however i do like better together.
this was one of their best albums, if not the best. when this woman came on the scene, she blew everyone away. the voice is beautiful as well as soulful. the pride of hyde park in chicago.
well if you were in the class of '73, I got dibs on ya bro.... this is a '74 release and thats when I came out and I can remember riding around town with my boys in chevy nova that pulled to the left when you hit the brakes and everyday was overcast... at least inside that car... great song/ great memories
Wow! This might be Chaka's finest performance! She was a pretty amazing songwriter, wish she'd do that more. And Kevin Murphy just killed it softly on the piano at the intro........
I can tell by the look that's in your eyes, and I'm not surprised. You got to move on like the sun's got to rise. I'm just holding you down! But the...universe is calling you. You are one, a chosen few. YOu got to pay a dew. Me and the baby gonna miss ya. I see you smile in her face. I only wish we were with you now. It's a lonely
place. But the... universe it calling you. a chose few...pay a dew. Pack'd my bags, put them at the door. HEY Pack'd my bags put them at the door, pack'd my bags put them at the door. I know you'll make it. You deserve it, you know you do. The blues are shaking and I'll focus on you. Oh! don't let them change you NO! I'm liek thieves in the night. Oh don't let them rearrange you boy! You got to do what's right. Cause the universe is calling you. Only one chosen few. Pay a dew. Pack'd my bags
Growing up in Southcommons Chicago was Cool we had a Tall lanky Bro named Rusty who would sometimes play this riff on His Les Paul for me, the Cat was a guitar Hero n did'nt even know it lol, also My main man Pete Burke, Rob Petrosses Cuz, got me started in playing Bass always love ya Pete.
Such a timeless classic from the cannon of Rufus ft.Chaka Khan. It was recently updated in '07 on Chaka's 'Funk This' CD, and she still brings it home after over 30 years!
