Nichiren taught that a true friend is someone willing to go out on a limb & risk being scolded etc, in order to be honest with you. An untrue friend is someone who first protects themselves from any uncomfortable reactions by agreeing with you, laughing with you & while hiding the truth about you in their mind and condemning or rideculing you to others behind your back.
But to be a true friend one has to be true to themself
