It looks terrible because it was a quick beta (more like an alpha) build designed to test gameplay, not to look good.

@MithosKuu It's neither Alpha nor Beta, it's pre-Alpha. It looks like a so-called "blocked-out gameplay prototype" that is sometimes done in professional game development.

Alpha and Beta both mean a pretty much presentable state of software. Usually tied to miletones that contain either feature or asset completeness, neither of which is the case here.
