Man, do I miss playing Jai-Alai. We used to be able to rent courtime in Orlando when Iived there and played in a summer league. Nothing like it. Great game to play. Wish we had it down here in SW Florida but Tampa closed many years ago so now it's Dania on a long weekend for me, just to watch it now.
Too bad that state lotteries have all but killed Jai Alai in the U.S. I don't gamble, but I love watching it. Some of these guys look nothing like athletes, but their agility is utterly incredible!
It's on kings hwy in ft pierce...Right off of I95.. They only have live play a few months out of the year the rest is simulcast and they are getting poker and slots soon...
They made a couple Jai-Alai video games, but they're kinda old. I'm not sure, but I think the newest one is for the commodore 64, and the oldest one is for the Telstar Colortron. The Colortron game is almost identical to Pong, except You hit the ball against the wall, and the 2 lines that hit the ball are both on the right side of the screen. They should look into making a new Jai-Alai video game, I would definitely buy it.
My dad was PR director of the Ft. Pierce Jai Alai fronton from the late '70's through the 80's. I spent many hours there as a kid hanging out with him at work (during the day, when there was no games going on, of course). This clip brings back a lot of memories; many thanks.
Thanks for posting this. I moved to Long Beach CA (am back home in SC now) my girlfriend and I would go down to Tijuana all the time and catch the Jai Alai games. I remember seeing the game for the first time on Miami Vice when I was growing up and had always wanted to see it for myself. What a rush!
Man, I've always watched this game. Since I was aroung 7 or 8. My mom and dad always brought me with them on Wendsdays and Fridays. No problem for posting this. When the season starts back up, I'll try and get some more videos. One time I was in the front row and I had just turned my camera off and one of the guys slammed into the fence infront of me. Scared the crap out of me. lol
thats it, calm camera, one frame...
congratulations, it is a great shot...
coolest than the speed of ball...
