  • Love this thank-you so much for teaching !

  • ok I have a question, when is one row considered finished? is it one row "casting on" and then a second row going back, or is one row both passes?

  • Thank you so much for this!

  • I am new to tunishian crochet although I have crocheted for 40 years I am broadening my knowledge of my favorite hobby. My question is how do I cast off using the knit stitch and keep my work looking the same not switching to afghan stitch on the cast off?

  • I think that this is so cool. Ive always knitted the continental way because thats what my mother taught me. Its very interesting to see a new and different way to create beautiful things

  • My mother does crochet this way and I find it to be so hard !

  • I'm ending up with a REALLY puffy rib on the back side. Is that normal?

  • how do you start?

  • Thank you!

  • is it just da knit stitch you dont have to do da extra loop at da beginning of each row? ive always done an extra at each end is why i ask.

  • The sound is just fine on this video. I had no issues. I also turned off the t.v. sound, and no other noises in the house. I would like to know how to start my tunisian crochet project. Does it start the same as any other regular?

  • "You know what, we're gonna eat your family" ROFL Did anyone else notice that?

  • Thanks so much for this video! You helped me figure out what I was doing wrong! :-D

  • Hi---

I'm learning to knit, and I really really want to make a greyhound for my grandma. She adores them and i think she would love it. the only problem is that i do not understand the pattern in the book. the book is ''how to knit your own dog''. could you please be kind enough to make a video of it if i post the instructions? no one else in my family knows how to knit and i really think a lot of people wil be interested in this.

    Thank you so much!

  • I'm new to Tunisian. Your instructions are well done. Thank you. I found a lovely pattern that calls for Tunisian Seed stitch. Do you know of a related instruction video? I was told "Seed stitch is just a combination of Tss and Tps alternating on forward pass (first row) and reverse pass of Tss on 2nd row.' I am trying to understand this. Thanks.

  • Thanks for this really informative video - now feel much more confident about jumpring into tunisian crochet!

  • I LOVE this stitch! using it onmy next shirt! My co-worker (who's a knitter) is going to be even MORE jealous now! she'll definitly join the crochet bandwagon that I've started at work!

  • Wonderful Video. I am switching from knitting to Crocheting, you make it look easy and fun. Thanks!!

  • Very clear and concise thank you.

  • Wow, I had never heard of this! Crocheting that looks like knitting, my mind is blown... I've been trying it and thanks to your instruction, I've got it down :) Thank you for the clear instructions and lighting!

  • Im a newbie... had NO IDEA you could get a knit effect using crochet- awsome!! Thanks for the video

  • You mention that you use the knit stitch for making hats.

I'd love to know how to increase and decrease in tunisian knit so that I could make a hat.

  • Your videos are very clear, but your voice is soft, almost as if you are whispering. I can hear, but I definitely have to concentrate. Might try speaking up a bit in future vids. Thank you for posting the instruction. I look fwd to giving this a try.

  • Great Video!

You mentioned you like Tknit for hats. Do you have a video for this in the round?

Do you have one that addresses tunisian knit stitch sock making?

    Thanks!!

  • Great Video! Do you have one that addresses tunisian knit stitch sock making?

  • no its not just you. shes basically whispering....

  • Thank you so much! This was so helpful!!

  • Do I need a special Tunisian hook to do this?

  • i couldn't believe all I had to go thru just to let you know how much I really enjoy your videos.

You really make it easy to understand.

Thank you very much, an avid crocheter, who didn't know there were so many afghan stitches.

    Again, thank you very much

  • Thank you for your excellent video - I love your calm and soothing voice - I am also hooked!!

  • I would like to say how wonderful it was to have an upclose and personal demonstration on the tunisian crochet stitch, I recently saw and heard about this stitch from Nitty Gritty on DIY, so now I am hooked. Thanks JoAnn

  • Great video... maybe ill try it after i finish with my other projects!!! And i preffer your voice than an old crazy woman screaming... is more relaxing :)

  • Thanks so much. I saw these long hooks in my charity shop but didn't know what they were used for. I've just started learning crocheting and I'm loving it and this is another way of doing it. Thanks for making the videos.

  • Thanks!

  • To do tunisian crochet, one needs a special crochet needle which is longer and it has a stopper at one end to hold stiches. The needle looks similar to the knitting needles but it has the typical crotchet hook.

  • Thank you for the demonstration. It helped me clarify a doubt I had regarding the Tunisian Knit Stich and the Tunisian Stockinette Stich. Althought I read that the Stockinette is thicker. Can someone tell me how it's thicker when they're done the same way? Thank you.

One bit of constructive criticism: I find it terrible when people say things like the speaker on this demonstration, when she says more than once: "it is more thick." Why can't she say 'it is thicker?

  • This is my favorite stitch~ It turns out so thick and fluffy!

  • Where did you get the tunisian crochet hook? I would really like to know so I can do this kind of stuff too. Thanks.

  • I have a question for you, can you use a knit pattern with your tunisian hook? The couple of knit patterns I have just call for knit and purl stitches? I have been too chicken to try it lol, so I thought I would ask before I destroy a whole ball of yarn.

  • how do you change yarn colors using this coooool Tunisian crochet knit stitch?

  • you have very soothing voice

  • Thank you for the wonderful instructions.

Have you, by chance, worked the "Sunset Ruana" pattern in the winter 2009 Interweave Crochet magazine? The instructions in the magazine totally baffle me.

    Thank you

    Glenda

  • thank you

could you show how to decrease on each of the three different stitches so the article tapers.....

  • how can you do a bit sweater with the Tunisian Knit? would it hold all those threads in the hook??? or what do you do?? I don't know if i explain myself...

  • a big sweater...i meant...or like a big throw...?

  • How would you bind off for Tunisian stitched project?

  • My guess would be to just end the last row like you would a crocheted piece. I haven't tried it tunisian crochet (yet), so it's just a thought.

  • how would you tunisian crochet in a circle?

  • i think you would say chain six (or how ever many you want) and then cast on through the ribs in the back like she does and then go on from there.... let me know if it works..

  • Is it just me, or is the voice VERY soft? I can see what is going on, but since I'm relying on YouTube for all my C/K lesssons, I really would like to hear the crafter.

  • Hi Apryl! You'll want to make sure your computer's sound is turned up if you're having difficulty. I'm able to hear the video as expected.

Here is a breakdown of what I've said in the video:

Insert your hook behind 1st vertical thread and angle it to the back, push all the way through. Yarn over and pull through.

then I show you the vertical loop and that you're pushing back through the space between stitches.

  • Thanks. The sound is just not loud on this video.... or should I say, it's not as loud as the others I had been watching.

But thank you SO MUCH for telling me what is being said. I can print that out and read, read, read and try it over again

  • @thecrochetside What brand of hook are you using please? Also, I want to make a thigh high stocking or fishnets, I dont know what type of hook or style will make the best finished stocking (with a stretchy scalloped edge)

  • @thecrochetside

I agree with the sound being less than clear and audioble. It sounds as if there is alot of background noise interfering with the clarity of the sound, as well. The visual instructions are excellent, the sound needs improvement.

Thanks so much for your help.

  • It's easier to keep your finger behind the stitch you're working so that you can feel where the hook is going.

Repeat placing the hook behind the vertical bar, push it through, yarn over and pull through, always leaving the loop on the hook.

Tunisian is the densest of the Tunisian stitches, that I've found.

In the last stitch, work into the 2 side loops to make an even side.

  • I then show you the whole swatch, the first few rows are Tunisian Simple, then Tunisian Purl, then Tunisian Knit. Flipping it over you can see and feel the dense area.

I also mention that I prefer Tunisian KNit for hats, bags, et cetera because it's dense and nothing will easy poke through the stitches.

To work back, yarn over and pull through 1 (left edge stitch), then yarn over and pull through 2 the rest of the way.

  • When I show the second row, when moving forward to pick up loops again, I just mention that the loop left on the hook at the end is always the 1st stitch of the new row, which is why you don't work into the right edge.

    Hope that helps!

  • i learned how to crochet with a book called i taught myself how to crochet from walmart.. it was very helpfull...

  • I had always wondered if there was a way to make crochet look like knitting and now I know there is. I also didn't know there were other ways to do the tunisian crochet stitch. I have learned so much more about knitting and crocheting from youtube than I ever did in any books. Thanks for posting this. Your videos are very helpful.

  • This is excellent. I do how to tunisian crochet but never learned how to do the knit and purl. Can't wait to try. Nice video.

  • This stitch is complete revelation to me. I can't believe there is a type of crochet that resembles knitting so much. Your tutorial is super-clear too!

  • it"s very interesting , thanks

  • はじめまして わたしもはじめました^-^

  • Thank you. I think knitting looks better then crochet but working with two needles is difficult for me. Do you have a video on making a scarf using tunisian crochet.

  • I've always wanted to learn how to start the stitch. Can you make a video like this? Great vid :-)

  • what type of hook u using?

    Size

  • Perfect! thank youy so much :]

  • Thank you so much. Seeing this stitch actually worked makes so much more sense than the photo/text tutorial I was trying to use.

  • I am so glad I came across your demo. I have been looking for something like this for the longest. I find knitting with two needles so complex. I think getting the same effect this way.

  • Me gusta mucho este tipo de videos, me cuesta menos aprender los diferentes puntos y lo mejor es que los puedo guardar..

    Gracias,

     Cecilia

  • where did you get that hook? love the color!!great job on the video and thanks for your efort to demonstrate!

  • Great video. I've been wanting to learn to do this stitch for a while. Thank you for sharing!

  • Thank you for sharing!

  • This video is excellent. Thanks for making it. I hope you always leave this up for others to learn from - because it is so easy to see what you're doing. I crochet and have always loved the look of knitting - but was afraid to try knitting. Tunisian knit stitch totally satisfies my love of the look of knitting. Your videos are a great help. :)

  • Great stitch! Thanks for making this!

  • Love the purple hook!

  • :D i love your videos!!!

  • Thanks so much! :)

  • Thanks for showing this really well!!

  • You're very welcome. It's one of my favorite stitches, so I enjoy showing how to make this stitch.
