Well it all depends on what you want to train :) But the key is to start with small things, and work up to more difficult behaviors or even with training just one behavior, you can train it in steps. Just remember when teaching something new be patient and don't expect too much at first, work with them towards what you want them to do.
I just finished my fourth year of ZT and I'm sad that it's all going by so quickly! There are so many things that I should've done in my earlier years and I'm really starting to regret it.
I've signed up for the winter program and I almost have all of the requirements done for being an official trainer.
I find training the goats very rewarding and it gives me more reason to have a goat in the future.
Otis is my favorite farm goat! -3 He's gotten a little chubby over the years but I still love '
And The zoo orders clickers online but you can go to a petsmart or petco or a petstore and buy one there. we use the clicker as a bridge and food and praise as rewards which is very important for training because they won't keep doing what you ask if you don't reward them :) but yeah that was a really long response haha sorry. but yeah do some research about training and yeah you can always ask more questions :)
we started training our goat when they were about 5 or 6 months old but the younger the better. but you can train them when they're older also they just don't learn as quick. And you want to make sure she knows you are in charge so don't reward her for taking the lead because you want her to do things that you ask her to do not whatever she wants to do. haha :) that is why the come command is helpful because it makes them focus again.
Our goats know a lot of different behaviors such as up, down, jump, stand (where they stand still at the edge of a table), station (where they put their hoof on a desired object, we use colored squares and other shapes), spin, lay, bow, kneel, hula (where they stand all 4 feet in a hula hoop), weave, through (where they walk through the hula hoop) and we even taught them to drink on command. and they are still learning.
well it really depends on the goat that you are training they're like people, some learn faster than others, but just start off slow with things like come, stay, up (like get up on a table or something) and down, jump stuff like that but find out what your goat likes doing the most and start with that.
How do you start training your goats? At what age? What do you with them to get them to do the tricks? I'm trying to train mine and so far all she can do is jump from one table to the other. She leads also.
