no, they have been like that for the past 5-6 years. They are made out of what they call synthetic k-leather. now the cleats you have are probably when they actually made it like they make vinyl cloth, so it looks, feels and stretches like k-leather, but it tore really easy when he used them, so they started making them out of that synthetic plasticy stuff. which was like 4 years ago.

actually they are just made from regular cow leather. Adidas gives it a special treatment making it adapt better to your foot and calls it Kangaroo leather (it's actually a trademark of adidas)... They don't use actual kangaroo leather simply because those are a protected species nowadays... Sorry to burst your bubble, but mine got burst too on this subject :(
