One of the most brilliant scores ever done for a television show. I was a kid when this was on and never watched it, but I did watch the opening intro just for that intro.
I'm going to set the record straight: Today's television does NOT compare to the melodramas of the 80's! I was really young in the 80's, but I remember Dynasty, Dallas and Falcon Crest being talked about all the time. My parents and older sister never missed an episode. The plots, the actors the costumes - it all made for gripping tv. You felt as if you were peering into the lives of rich mega-families (a la the kennedy's) once a week. We have none of that these days. Its all reality crap!
this is a great intro I remember in the restaurant that my mum owns in Spain everybody running for see the beginning of falcon crest a popular event after of the launch.
I think these shows were better too! Come on! Today's shows use the lowest common denominator. We were smarter then compared to what I see on ota tv these days. I miss these programs
Here's what's funny. Take the opening credits film from "Airwolf" turn down its sound, and put this music over it. You'll be amazed how it fits like a glove.
Weirdly while watching this again I envisioned the opening of a StarTrek series and think this tune would work quite well, shame I don't know anything about video creation to try it out.
Unfortunately all great programs suffer from that at some point either due to pressure from the Network or thanks to a new writer, director or producer.

@jmjfanss Oh please I enjoy Dexter, Fringe etc.. it has gotten better. Plus I don't need to risk being run over by a car just cos I m trying to get home on time to watch a show. I am sure I watched this show when I was 6 home alone I can't believe I have zero recollection of it , I only recognize the heavily peroxided hair and the mansions.
Haha. I didn't even know this existed till Tina Fey ( liz lemon) refrenced it on 30 Rock. I cant imagine watching this shit. A show about w.p.p. (white ppl problems)
just epic! this song remind me so much of friday nights way back when....first it was dukes of hazzard, then dallas then falcon crest...my mom and dad loved this stuff...great great memories
I was SO excited when this show finally came out on DVD! I bought The Complete First Season on the day it was released! Hands down, this is my favorite of the primetime soaps of the 1980's, especially that epic theme from Bill Conti (who also did the theme for DYNASTY, a close second)! And it was awesome when they got Quentin Collins on there as an arch-rival for Angela. I might go ahead and order The Complete Second Season in hopes that the rest of the series will be released someway!
I was too young to understand this show as a kid...But what I do remember is watching these opening credits immediately after The Dukes of Hazzard went off, just so i could see the falcon turn his head near the end of the theme. It got me every time! i distinctly remember my parents and aunt saying, uh oh jason. . here comes the bird!
I enjoyed wathching this show every week with my wife just before we were married. The some years later we met Lorenzo Lamas at "Chiller Theater" and I told him how much we enjoyed the show every week and he agreed it was a great way to spend a Friday Night. He sure was right!
By far the best theme of all these legendary series. Although I have watched little of Falcon Crest I liked it. It was more simplistic than Dynasty and the fact that was rural made it more romantic and catcy. I also don't watch series anymore. There not gonna be again series like Dynasty, Dallas and Falcon Crest. The new ones are one of the same and are devoid of the originality of the abovementioned. Only by hearing this song memories come by and give that nice nostalgic feeling.
Friday night was television event night back then....Dallas, followed by Falcon Crest. I was a child during that time, and from 9-11pm you DID NOT bother my parents, except during commercials. If us kids followed that simple rule, we were allowed to stay up until 11pm. For that reason, this show became one of my favorites to watch. And heaven forbid the phone ring at any time during that two hour block! LOL
Question to all you Falcon Crest watchers........I never watched this how. I did watch Dallas, Dynasty and Knots Landing. How did this show compare to those? Was it as good? I'm thinking about getting the dvd's from someone of all seasons.
@mark40511 - Falcon Crest had very over the top acting, amazing locales, and the grand-bitch Angela Channing that could rip you to shreds in the wink of an eye. It also had the mystique of a wine dynasty in the families in the valley-Agrettis and Giobertis.
But the last two years are what sank this one-much like "Dallas"-the attention was on too many different people instead of 10 main characters. The storylines failed as a result, sadly.
Ok, hit pause on this theme. Now restart it with your eyes closed. Listen to the theme again. You KNEW you had a show of epic proportions coming up with theme music like this! Wow, I wish I could go to sleep with this playing on tv like I used to when my parents watched shows like this at night.
@sxwrulz Yep! Imagine that, FRIDAY NIGHT! Now whatever is put on Friday night is just filler for the most part. It's just another night on television. Of course, back then you did not have over 300 channels to choose from, either.
Those days where really worth watching television, all you got now is reality shows that are only good enough to satisfy a chimpansee if you could just get him to sit still in the sofa.
@airbrushedhottie mi este venito de mexico ese, i think my english is good enough, on the other hand the content of my post is true if you are over 30 yrs old. If you are like 20 then can not know. You can YT it but it is not the same imo

@Nemesis7293 Quality television? You're dim, N. This era of television was entirely episodic or else a directionless soap opera. Tropes on top of tropes -- and catering to the lowest common denominator. That's why film still mattered.

@Bobby3OOO "We have great TV now. Plot arcs, surprises, real character development. " Wow, really? In an environment of 90% "reality television" you're able to find all that??? Please...PLEASE..cite some examples of this wondrous surge in television quality! I'd love to know what it is that you're advocating so strenuously because even finding "scripted" TV now is an achievement. Finding QUALITY scripted TV is an epic quest. I'll continue to be "dim", thanks. And this theme still fucking rocks!
Compare Burn Notice to the A-Team. Compare the new Battlestar Galactica to Star Trek TNG. Compare LOST to ... um... Fantasy Island. Compare Law and Order: Criminal Intent to Law and Order season one. Compare the Sopranos and Breaking Bad to crime dramas of their day. I think I was the only boy that watched these shows when I was little.
i think that the intros in the series showed a little respect for the audience... they wanted to give us quality.. now everything is about time and commercials.
@Camiloo21986 A good intro back then could make or break a series as a good one captured your imagination and made you want to watch it each week.
All my favourite TV from the 80s and 90s all have really great intros which if you weren't in the room when they started, made you quickly finish what was keepig you aay from the TV as soon as you heard the music start.
The Spring Mountain Winery used for the series is located in the Napa Valley area and is very beautiful in person. As is the Filoli Mansion in South San Francisco used as the Carrington home in Dynasty. And don't forget Crystalaire Place in Granada Hills, Ca 91344 as the ever famous Knots Landing Cul-De-Sac and 3700 Hogge Drive, Parker, TX 75002 (Southfork Ranch) used in Dallas.
This soap brings me so many memories! The music is fantastic. It was a TV series. The theme music is from Bill Conti. His is well known from his music from Rocky, The Karate Kid, Dynasty etc.
I never liked the title music of "Rocky" and I found "Masters of the Universe" was a Superman-replicant. But this composition by Bill Conti is really awesome.
I grew up in the 80's and shows like this were fantastic! Dallas, Dynasty etc., the theme tunes were awesome and far more memorable than the theme tunes to any of today's shows! This one was so unnecessarily high pitched and dramatic - it was great :) Made you feel you had to watch it! Something really exciting was gonna happen :)

Did you know that this show was originally called "The Vintage Years?"

i think that the intros in the series showed a little respect for the audience... they wanted to give us quality.. now everything is about time and commercials.

Dallas and Falcon Crest made for some exciting Friday evenings. :)
